Well Keo thinks it's an idea. Jones is an astute coach with plenty of experience. Note how Keo correctly identifies Rassie as a genius strategist. It's really the reason some of the unfortunate oaks here can't fathom Rassie. He is just too smart for them!
Jones to become assistant Bok coach?
Jake White needed Jones urgently in 2007 because none of his coaching staff new anything about backline play and he probably helped the Springboks in winning the WC that year - even though the backline play of the Springboks in the final was atrocious and the team was unable to score a try.
I am not sure we need him now - but he could help Erasmus as Director of rugby - since backline coaching remains a total headache in SA franchise and provincial teams.
I would take Eddie any day to be be our backline coach or even head coach. Let him take over the team and demote Nienaber back to defence coach and kick stick out completely. Bring back Matt Proudfoot as bok scrum and we will be back on top of the world. Only this time we would the right coach for our backline talent

I must tell you that Jones love Cape Town and would welcome an SA appointment. I do not see him as head coach of the Springboks where he would be limited - I would arather see him as backline coach - not only for the3 Springboks - but also for the franchises, where development of backline players is of the utmost importance.

Backline coaching should be developed further than they are at present. I am sure Rupert will fund the appointment of Jones on that basis.
Australia want him back and the USA want him too.
Promising sounds coming out of NZRFU that they are in talks with Razor to take over the ABs after the world cup but take that with a pinch of salt as our union is full o f old boy fuckwits.
Not sure I could accept Razor coaching the poms, hopefully they want a home grown coach (or anyone but Razor) more than happy for them to take Foster though lol.
In fact they can have the prick now, I will happily contribute to the cost of taking him.
Borthwick is our chosen option. They are just haggling over money.
Is that a long term contract or just up to the world cup?
He was the chosen successor to Eddie, so it would appear to be long term.
Thats great news if so
Having a backline coach won't solve the problems, because they have to work within the confines of the overall gameplan. To incorporate better back play, we need to restructure the forwards, change our patterns etc. That then leads into personnel changes. A backline coach has less power than you think. As per Jake? He didn't need Jones. Jake was a significant reason why Jones was fired in the first place.
Eddie did make a difference in 2007....and can most probably make one again for the Boks, if allowed...very astute Rugby Coach....Rassie will most probably think he is completely on the right track , but Results show otherwise unfortunately....the Boks can definitely use Fresh input and a Positive change, to enhance us even more.
The 2007 WC Bok games are available on YouTube. Do feel free to point out this magical contribution. I do agree, he could help this Boks team, pretty much anyone in world rugby could improve the work of Erasmus. Would Erasmus refrain from smothering them?
Were we? We suffered nearly 40 injuries that season. It must be a South African record. We lost to Australia via a kick after the siren, we lost to New Zealand by a three penalties after leading most of the game, we lost to England by 2 points in the first test (a miraculous English win at the end). We lost to Ireland exclusively through three dumb defensive rushes by Spies (the kind Steph has built a career on). So that alone would make it 9-3-0. We played some very good rugby. To think, Jake beat the best era of All Blacks with Muller, Wannenburg, Venter, Pretorius, Olivier (13). That was the game where Fourie covered 15 for the injured Monty. To think, could we have won many games this year had Am, Mostert, Willie, Eben, Wiese, Kitshoff and Ox were injured. Very foolish people attacked Jake in 2006, and there are no fingerprints of Jones on the 2007 team. None.
Actually, we played such clumsy and inaccurate rugby against Ireland and France that they should be ashamed for making it look so close. We looked lost against Italy until Kwagga. The first All Black test they ripped through us with ease. I don't need to make excuses, or interject any kind of emotionally. All I have to do is point out the facts.

Klop!
Crusaders Fan - Well lets hope Patsy Reedy kicks the arses of some of the idiots on the union.
However it alarms me that they did not have the balls to kick Fosters arse.

It is as long term as long term may be.
The RFU discontinued the previous coach, that is not to continue on the same tracks.
The new coach knows the rules of the game and will prefer a solid severance package.
It will take a lot for the new coach to survive the world cup, including a win may not be enough.
From that point, his safest bet is that no one the RFU has been seeking is available.

While correct, it goes frontally against the narrative SA rugby forwards best forwards in the world.
Added to that, since backline play is outsourced to quota players, failures must come from them. And the coach in charge is himself a quota so it helps to postpone reckoning.
SA rugby will never play rugby. It is over, that train left the platform a long time ago.
