RIP Joost.
We all knew it was coming. Almost a blessing really. I think the only reason he survived as long as he did with this terrible disease was because he was such a fighter.
Great player. Certainly the greatest Springbok scrumhalf of the modern era.

R.I.P Joost... a true legend if ever one had to quantify what a legend really is.
Many years ago, once diagnosed with this disease, Joost made a statement saying that he wanted quality over quantity.
He said stop telling me how long I "could" live for, and tell me how long I actually have, because I want to fit in all the quality time I can get in that short space of time that I have left, than suffer for 10 years.
Without any shadow of a doubt, the greatest Springbok scrumhalf I have ever seen take the field.
A true honourable fighter right till his very last breath.

RIP Joost. He stood for everything we believe in as Bok fans. Probably our best Bok of the professional era- along with Habana.
His try-saving tackle in the 1995 world cup summed up his attitude as a player.
More than just a scrumhalf- he wa s an exceptional rugby player that had 100% commitment.

There's a clip on SARugby mag showing Joost bringing down Jonah in text book fashion 3 times, while other Boks were shoved aside. I recalled the stupendous head on tackle, but the others were splendid as well. Worth a look.

I met Joost in '05 ......... holiday in Cape Town, the ABs in town & tickets for the Test as scarce as hens' teeth . So an hour before kickoff I'm outside Newlands armed with my 'TICKETS PLEASE' sign, close by Joost doing media duties was setting up camp. We had a brief chat until some gorgeous meisies took over, surrounding him wanting autographs on body parts etc. Ten minutes later this elegant looking old dame approaches me & with one breath says, " hello I do hope that you are able to get a ticket its going to be a wonderful game & Joe van Niekerk is my grandson."
Lovely day....... I ended up in one of my favorite possies, on the ole terraces beneath the main stand. We won.

Very sad to hear this but sure Joost is much better off in Heaven. Joost was a real man and fought all his battles with courage and fortitude. Greatest scrum half I ever saw!RIP dear Joost!

I se some racist is now running scared after posting some really bad stuff about Joost and white people on Facebook and Twitter.
He has now created a media sh!t storm and is completely running scared now that various organisations are trying to find him.

Joost Van Der Westhuizen, not only my hero but my family too and through all this, I show him how much I love and respect him through writing this song for him.
I was flown over to South Africa in June of 2013 from Australia to film and record his song and I know his legacy will live on!
