Ex Super sport

Prop Steven Kitshoff will leave Bordeaux to return to South Africa at the end of the current European season.

Kitshoff joined the French club on a two-year deal in 2015, but with his contract set to expire at the end of this season (in June), SA Rugby swooped to lure him back to South Africa. SA Rugby allegedly asked Western Province Rugby for financial assistance to secure Kitshoff’s return.

According to Rapport, the 25-year-old was offered a national contract last week, and one of the terms emerging from the negotiations is that Cape Town union and SA Rugby have to pay an undisclosed fee to Bordeaux.

Kitshoff is the first player to return home after SA Rugby announced that only overseas-based Springboks with more than 30 Test caps will be eligible for national selection as of 1 July.

Kitshoff has only played 10 Tests for the Springboks after making his debut in 2016.

Bok coach Allister Coetzee has also requested that SA Rugby works on bringing loose forwards Marcell Coetzee (Ulster) and Duane Vermeulen (Toulon) back to South African rugby, but without a main sponsor for the national team, no negotiations with the players have yet taken place.

It would great to see Vermeulen back at Stormers and on form.

We need loosies badly and I would like to see marcel Coetzee and Vermeulen returning - but am afraid that Vermeulen was not really a house on fire for Toulon - maybe he is in his declining years as a loosie.
I would like to see Coetzee at 8 - where he was outstanding in the games for his club this year.

Mike, Vermeulen was overlooked for far too long. He played his best rugby before becoming a Bok. Duane is 30 years old and has been loafing away in France. He must come back and re remotivated. He still has some good rugby in him!

This is positive. France can have our crap young players- or pensioned players that will not reach the following world cup.
but the regions and Boks must make a plan to retain the best young players.

Beeno, Vermeulen was almost always injured when the Boks played earlier in his career.

SARU should rethink this plan and rather use the funds to rid SA Rugby of Coetzee and the other morons on the board.
It would solve many issues and be great for SA Rugby.
Time to clean house......

Great to see Kitshoff returning...other youngsters we need back are Willemse, Jacques du Plessis, Marcel v/d Merwe, Gooosen, Koch, Groom, Jean Kleenex and Marcel Coetzee. We also need to stop the likes of Kebble, Arno Botha and Reinach leaving. We are ok in terms of Hougaard, Bismarck and Willie as they have over 30 caps
