Kiwi's tired of 'poison' claims2016-05-04 16:14SHARE THISJoost van der Westhuizen's famous tackle on Jonah Lomu in the 1995 Rugby World Cup final (Gallo Images)Related Links

Cape Town - A New Zealand scribe says they are tired of hearing claims that the All Blacks were poisoned before losing the 1995 Rugby World Cup final to South Africa.

This comes after reports again surfaced that the All Blacks were laid low before the final at Ellis Park.

Rory Steyn, who was chief bodyguard to former president Nelson Mandela, has suggested that betting syndicates sought to poison the All Blacks in order to make huge money from an upset, with New Zealand

the favourites heading into the match.

On the Thursday before the final, which was on Saturday, they were poisoned.

About two-thirds of the squad got very sick, properly sick," Steyn told the New Zealand Heraldthis week.

However, Tony Smith - a columnist for the Stuff.co.nzwebsite -

said it’s time New Zealanders put the issue to bed.

“Who cares if the All Blacks were poisoned on the eve of the 1995 Rugby World Cup final?" Smith wrote.

“Why keep dredging up the distant past?

“Does it really matter, 21 years on, if there were nefarious reasons for the

vomiting and diarrhoea bug that ripped through the All Blacks like a double

dose of Epsom salts?”

“Rory Steyn, chief bodyguard to South African president Nelson Mandela,

first made the claim the All Blacks had been deliberately poisoned in a

book published in 2000. He blamed betting syndicates, who stood to make

 millions from a Springboks win.

“The hoary controversy has resurfaced, 16 years later, because Steyn is in

New Zealand on a speaking tour.

“It's all a little tiresome.

"Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but Steyn hasn't produced any

incontrovertible proof. He's merely speculated someone could have got to

All Blacks' coffee, tea or drinking water.”

South Africa won the game 15-12 thanks to Joel Stransky's late drop goal,

sparking memorable scenes at Ellis Park as the Springboks celebrated a first

Rugby World Cup triumph, with the trophy famously presented to skipper

Francois Pienaar by Mandela.

According to Smith, South Africa deserve praise for upsetting the odds to

 win their first World Cup.

“The Springboks deserved credit for devising tactics to defuse the All Blacks'

chief attacking weapon, giant wing Jonah Lomu.

“South Africa's victory seemed almost pre-ordained. It was a rallying point

for a nascent rainbow nation.

“In truth, the All Blacks' fate was probably confirmed when Mandela appeared

for the pre-match formalities wearing Springboks captain Francois Pienaar's No

6 jersey.”

We dont care any more some of us got mightily p!ssed off at the time but its done and dusted so if some slimy Asian betting syndicate laid them low so be it ,it still doesnt mean the Boks had anything to do with it .And if you think that wouldnt happen just look at what they did to Bob Woolmer and maybe even Hansie Cronje .This is invariably tossed up by non Kiwis , our boys have all the marbles now and dominate world rugby so to reiterate , we no longer care .

Yeah, I am sick of it ... so to speak
We will never know what happened & it's ancient history now. There was a rumor that Beeno's wife Suszzi was involved somehow - this rumor has never been denied by the way.

The wee abs played well beyond 80 minutes with no signs of any ill effects.
Lets face facts things are so often handed to the kbbs on a platter by bent ref in pocket types. If perchance once in a blue moon anything goes against them they wail and whinge in an unconsolable and mostunbecomung manner. Who will forget their monumental efforts when a forward pass put them out of the RWC in a game against France.
They consistently resist all attempts to clean up the game. Bit like India not wanting TMO in cricket.Beeno has been onto these miscreants for decades.
Now pleae JW just say thanks Beeno for putting  right and trying to help staigthen crooked paths plus I promise to adopt Justin marshall as my role model and will try and help ou warped DUD reform as well. Bwhahahahahahahahaha

Beeno, your sub-conscious betrays you once again as you refer to the kbbs (whoever they are) being served on a "platter". A typical foot in mouth Trum@pet type statement that reveals all  - & confirms my original suspicions re one of your family members.
On a real rugby matter, for once I have confidence in the stormers & guarantee they won't lose this weekend - they have a bye

Hasbeeno, has SA ever won a RWC without controversy? Struggled to beat a team of invalids in extra time in '95 and was handed the trophy in 2007 by virtue of an easy draw and an incorrectly disallowed English try. Not forgetting the disgraceful Louis Luyt gold watch saga after France were disallowed the winning try in the '95 semi as well.Tainted trophies I would say......

JW lets face facts. Some here have had mountains of EGG land regarding Trum*p. I suspect more EGG is going to land as Trum*p exposes hillary clink as the crooked and bought globalist she isand becomes the nest POTUS.
Away with hillary clink and all crooked kbbs! That being kiwi bird brains.  A primeval species living at the bottom end of the world.
Beeno putting ou JW right! Its what I do!

The same cricket captain that was finally caught match fixing a few years later brada Wardad.
Too funny JW .
Beeno's incessant whine about "bent everybody else" reflects his surrounding/home sporting environment where one has to be suspicious about every result. Sad fact is since Super Rugby started, there were certain results coming out of the republic proving without a shadow of a doubt that certain matches from certain provinces were thrown/fixed to allow a certain SA Provincial side through and kiwi Teams out. It might be called "seeing the big picture".
Now, thankfully, that is No Longer Happening since the Provinces have more pride (following the NZ example of course) and since we started complaining on Ruckers Forum LOL
