We can view your link but once we're there we can't watch the Foxsports video of the incident as the video clip on there is not viewable outside of Australia.
We have already discussed this incident on this thread where there is a link to the footage but it's very poor quality unfortunately. Was hoping your clip would be clearer but we can't view it outside of Australia.
Yes, it was blatant opportunism but to pretend that Barrett is the first kicker to do that or do something similar to improve his angle or shorten the distance is pretty naive.

New Zealand is worse at cheating, there is no doubt. Sure, other countries cheat as well - but nothing in comparison to New Zealand.
For other teams cheating seems more spontaneous, but for New Zealand, it seems they are coached to do this. They are professional cheats, it is clearly part of the game plan.

This is not a good example to young people around the world. Just like violence is not a good example, neither is professional cheating.
The red zone penalties are the most infuriating. As a team starts to pick up momentum and confidence, the movement is killed. Each game they seem to be under their last warning. Then the next game, they start with a clean slate.

I've never understood this concept of "cheating" in rugby. How does one "cheat"? If you infringe then you get penalized. If the ref misses it then that's part of the game. Refs do miss a lot of things on the field because rugby has very complex laws that are difficult to police 100% correctly. Most people know this.
What Barrett did was opportunism and plenty of place kickers from all different nations have tried similar tactics to gain a small advantage. Sometimes the refs pick it up and sometimes they don't . . . in exactly the same way as they might pick up a forward pass or they might miss it. No-one is claiming refs don't make mistakes or miss incidents like that.

I don't believe the Kiwis infringe any more than any other team or nation. I think all this talk of "cheating" is sour grapes from sore losers . . . and sadly, we South Africans are among the worst when it comes to ref-bashing and making excuses.

I disagree. It is like saying to investment bankers that cause economic crashes that all is fine, as long as they do not get caught.
Or a builder that uses faulty piping because they can get away with it, or an electrician that cuts corners to save a few bucks. Or an African government like Zuma, it is all fine because he got away with it.
Spontaneous opportunism is different from coached into a culture of cheating. New Zealand is the best in the world, but in recent years the gap is less.
They have also won games where they were not the best team on the pitch. Not just about taking opportunities , it is about killing the opposition attacking movements with cynical play.

After each match there is a report by the captain and coach to Zanzaar about any aspect that they wish to bring to attention.   You can be sure the following would be in the SA report:-

*    The  knock-on before the penalty;

*     The askew line-out throw-ins;

*     The incident under discussion.

The Zansaar committee would deal with it and the referee would g warned about it and a repeat would not be tolerated.   As far a I know this guy is on the WC referee panel and he would be told to correct his errors or …..

Nothing about what was said and done would be in the media though.   The incident of the penalty chancing could easily have let to a turnaround penalty and the TV monitor saw it happening and did nothing - he would also get it in the neck.

My heart bleeds for you.

Have you forgotten the cheating by arsehole South Africans in 1995.

There is plenty more payback to come don't you worry.

I suspect New Zealanders will never forget 1995 and the dirty arsehole South Africans.

You bunch of arse wipes..................................

As I said in my other post, I don't blame the All Blacks for us not winning that game, I completely blame our own SA team, because we should have sealed that game, period, and we didn't.

However, having said that...… I have a massive amount of respect for what the All Blacks produce on the rugby field, every single time they play, but that respect gets dented a bit when they resort to tactics like this to win games.

SA could not contest so many line outs in that game, due to the All Black throw in going straight and directly to their own player..... it was not even close to a contest.

The deliberate and illegal action, to gain extra meters, to make that one penalty kick.

The All Blacks don't need to do this shit to win most of their games...…and that's what bugs me more, I guess...….. win at all costs..... even if it is illegal or unsportsmanlike behavior that gets you the win.

Listen you blithering moron, either give me an example of "cheating" in rugby or admit you can't and shut the heck up.
Throwing the ball in skew is no more cheating than being offside or entering a ruck from the side. It's up to the ref in a game of rugby to police transgressions. If a player kicks a dead ball forward a few feet to make it a shorter kick then it's the ref's job to call him back and make him take it from the correct spot.
I see your pal Dumb Ass is bleating about skew throws. If a player throws in skew then it's a scrum to the other team so if morons like you think that's cheating then cheat away, because you're just giving up possession. If you think it's the naughty refs and touch judges favouring one team over another then make that distinction and accuse them of cheating, not the players or the team. Personally I'll take the word of a professional ref or touch judge who is actually at the game and on the field rather than a drunken, stupid and biased rugby noob sitting in front of his TV.
Tell me, Baboon-ou, if your hero Duane Vermeulen is penalized for being offside, is he cheating? Huh chump? If your answer is no then explain why Springbok transgressions are not cheating but All Black trangressions are.
Come on you spineless wimp, answer a question for once in your sad and pathetic life.

Cheating in rugby happens rooibozo when players know corrupt refs won't penalize then.

What happened with Bar rat happened behind the refs back.

Bozo you might remember how many times mccheat was warned by refs but never penalized.

You are perhaps the only buffoon in rugby who thinks cheating doesn't happen.

What a plank!!!

Players transgress by mistake we know that also.

They also try deliberately try to get away with things thinking the ref is unsighted.

Man ou rooibozo is like a newbie when it comes to rugby.

There were many skew throws the abs got away with. They knew they could cheat because the ref was on their side. Get the Jarpy stuff. No bozo I suppose you think that letter by Lawrence was never written.

What a complete Mampara!!!

The comments of Hansen is summarized in the following article from News 24:-

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says he won't punish Beauden Barrett for rolling the ball forward before kicking penalty against the Springboks last weekend.

WATCH: Beauden Barrett moves ball closer to posts behind referee's back

A Springbok fan spotted Barrett nudging the ball forward with his foot while Australian referee Nic Berry had his back turned and posted footage of the incident on social media.

"Watch closely what Beauden Barrett does with the ball as he prepares for the penalty kick," Pieter van der Spuy states in the clip, which has been viewed more than 165 000 times on social media.

Hansen told the Stuff.co.nz website that Barrett had simply done something many goal-kickers do.

"Look, you guys (media) have watched a lot of footy from club level right to the very highest level; I would say most goal-kickers have done that at some point in their time," the All Blacks mentor said.

"Is it right? Probably not, but they all do it. Is it any different than when you get a penalty and kick for touch and end up taking two strides past the mark to kick it out? It's just what happens in footy."

Hansen said it was up to the official to sort out the matter.

"Well, there are four referees. So they are the judges aren't they? There are more things happening on the rugby field that are more concerning than this."

Not really sportsmanlike  and neither supportive of the need not to abuse the rules - sounds like the eleventh Commandment - Thou shalt not be caught out"

In golf you get banned for moving your golf ball closer to the hole, even 1cm.

Suppose it's tough for these AB goalkickers, let's give them 3m each time to make it fair, even Hansen backs them,so who cares.

"It's only illegal if you get caught"...BS, if you are deliberately/knowingly transgressing the laws of the game, you are cheating. It is unsportsmanlike and definitely not in the spirit of the game. If everybody is doing it, it's because there are no repercussions....that means that WR is slacking yet again in applying the laws of the game...

It's like ball tampering in Cricket, a few years ago everybody were doing that too...not anymore..

As usual the SA posters on this site are confused about the Mighty All Blacks. You are all blind to the fact that Barrett showed great sportsmanship by moving the ball closer to the goal post as this gave the Boks a better chance at the charge down. Talk about ungrateful , really.., you guys are too much sometimes, lol

Get over it Draad. All rugby players are cheats going by your theory. Every hand in a ruck. Every player off side. Every shepherd. What about the player who takes a quick tap from a penalty or free kick but not from the mark? Cheating too?? No penalty for that so why should there be for Barrett pinching a few cms??.....

moo, it's very simple, if you are deliberately breaking the laws of the game, you are cheating...it's simple...and if everyone is getting away with cheating, it reflects on how amateurish rugby is still administered...pathetic actually...and trying to put it into a good light is denying the problem or putting lipstick on a turd...there is no place for this BS in pro sports.

Cheating at cards during poker night with the boys might be a bit of harmless fun, but cheating at pro-poker with big money involved is criminal.

If you have laws, enforce them to the best of your ability or don't bother at all...rugby is selling itself short with half baked "professionalism "...it's time for the next step.

I don't agree. For starters, WR can make a statement that such behavior is undesirable and is bringing the game in disrepute and that players would be sanctioned post match. I'm not talking about small accidental trivialities, just blatant and cynical stuff.

Like I said, this isn't a NZ issue for me, it's a WR professionalism issue .

And I think lots can be done to improve the quality of refereeing too, but somehow WR either don't care or think all is well.
