Krige picks his Bok loose trio

Cape Town - Former Springbok captain Corne Krige has revealed who he'd like to see as the Bok loose trio at next year's Rugby World Cup.

In an interview withNetwerk24, Krige said a loose forward combination of Francois Louw, Marcell Coetzee and Duane Vermeulen excited him.

Krige said the Boks dearly missed Louw on their recent year-end tour to Europe.(Agreed Louw has been verey good for the Boks)

The 29-year-old flank last played for the Springboks in their Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks in Wellington on September 13.

He underwent neck surgery 10 weeks ago but will make his return for his English club, Bath, in a European Champions Cup game against Montpellier on Friday.

Krige though felt Louw's layoff may not be a bad thing in the long run.

"I think the rest could be good for him. It will take a while before he regains top form, but I believe he will be 100% fit by the time the World Cup starts and he'll be able to make an enormous impact."

The 2015 Rugby World Cup, to be staged in England and Wales, runs from September 18-October 31

Nice balance to that trio. plenty of grung and fair pace. Louw is good over the ball etc.

6. Coetzee 7. Botha 8. Vermeulen  

What's the story with Arno? The last I saw of him was his injury in the warm up internationals ages ago. Coetzee really is too easily dominated at 6 and offers little except tackling at 7. Somebody needs to teach this kid to offload....he dies with the ball every time. But in any case we need a power 7.

Our best loosie trio by far has been Alberts, Louw and Vermeulen, the trio who made our 2013 YE tour a breeze. There you have the power and the finesse needed to dominate in a RWC game. Schalk to come on with 20 minutes to go to spark things a bit.

But we also need to think about a worst case replacement for Vermeulen....very often he seems like the whole loosie trio. What if he is hurt in one of those physical charges?

After a strong showing in the first part in last year’s competition, the former Junior Springbok captain was widely tipped to add senior honours to his resume. This did indeed happen during the 2013 Castle Lager Incoming Series and Botha debuted against Italy in Durban. A week later he tore knee ligaments against Scotland and sat out the rest of the year.
He has recovered well and will be a major force in the Vodacom Bulls pack. His abrasive style, superb skill set and pace will make him a huge threat as ball-carrier, whilst his line-out ability will be well utilised by his team.

Here is hoping Arno makesa huge impact. 

If you think Arno Botha only weighs 103kg Beenkop, you need to get your eyes tested. Those stats are probably the ones he started his career with as an U20......he has muscled up considerably these days. My guess is that he is close to 110kg these days.

Louw is ok, nothing special, there are far better loosies about in SA including CJ Stander playing for Munster.

Mike, agree in 2012 Alberts was in much better form than the past two years, but from memory he had shoulder injuries that started already in 2012, this long lay off may jut bring him back to his best, which for 50 minutes can be devastating for the opposition.

I am not ready to give up on him yet.
