Kwagga was phenomenal as a 7’s player and transferred that form to Super rugby, so test rugby looked to be the obvious progression Reality is, Kwagga pretty much failed to excite, he was virtually a non entity at test level - it looked a stretch too far for the guy physically smaller than any test forward out there. Then against the best opposition in the game in the AB’s that promise came to fruition and his impact and performances have been very good ever since. He now believes he belongs and is now a handy addition to the Bok 23, much in the way Schalk Brits should have been but for the stupid Bok coaches pre Rassie. Unfortunately with Kwagga in the mix our loose trio balance is completely out as we no longer have a bruiser at 7. So in effect we are playing two open sides It will be interesting to see what happens when PSDT returns, he obviously walks straight back into the 7 spot, with Kolisi obviously retaining the 6 spot and rightly so on both accounts. Vermeulen’s days are numbered given his age but just like Kwagga is not a 7 he is neither an 8. So until Vermeulen retires I’m guessing Kwagga will be the bench option.

Kwagga has gained consistency over time. Jasper Wiese had a slow start as well, but like Kwagga he is getting more consistent over time.

That is a sign of good coaching, backing initial selections even when it looks like someone is not a test-level player.

Rudolf Straulie would have ditched Kwagga and Wiese ages ago.

It would be good to see Kwagga get a starting game at 6 to see what he could do their, maybe against a Minnow team to rest Kolisi.

Oh Moz are you ever going to own up to the reality of Duhan’s cheap shot on PSDT You really are embarrassing yourself banging on about a muscle bound 110kg wing hitting a player stretching upwards to pop the ball over to Kolbe I’m guessing you were too weak as a player to effect what Duhan did to PSDT?

Kwagga is our premier 6, but has excelled in every position along the back row. Kwotalisi, the second least useful player in the squad, is creating problems. Josè juggled him around in 2018, trying to find a spot, and just lumped him at 6. Our best loose trio right now is Thor, Wiese, Kwagga. There's no need for PTSD. We can finally field a competitive loose trio. Dump Limp for Mostert. Team upgraded.

Wiese has gotten no better? What a nubstick you are! 98% tackle success, by far the best of the Boks and very high metres per carry. His penalty count isn't that bad, only one game stands out, those 3 penalties against the Lions. He has been cuttingg errors out of his game thereafter. Very secure in contact. All this, but Unter gushes over PTSD and his paltry 1.2mpc and porous defence with the distribution of old Unter clinging onto his last rolo and positional awareness of Lügnerin playing pin the lie on the Pinocchio.

I think Kwagga is an exceptional loose forward. Bugger weight, it's the imput and quality he adds...he would be a credit to any side. What a player and changemaker but that has sfa to do with PSDT another great...when a side has many different good player options it's great. As a school kid I remember, Tommy Bedford, Frik Du Preez (sometimes lock) and Jan Ellis and I also recall Piet Greyling who I think if I remember came in later. Really the cream of the crop of any loose forward combinations.

Strength is more than numbers on a scale. Lood is actually weaker than a lot of our backs, despite being the tallest/biggest Bok in history. In fact, little 78kg Aplon has a better record of smashing big players than Lood.

PTSD is not part of the conversation of usable players.

All of this is just more proof of why Swys De Bruin is hopefully able to take the coaching role again in future. Guy is far ahead of everybody else in SA when it comes to understanding player value AND then extracting said value. It’s no co-incidence that he put together a team of no-namers and turned them into the statistically best franchise side in the SH…perhaps the world. Faf, Kwagga, Mostert, Janjties, Redlinghuys, Marx, RJVR, Whitely, Akker, Combrink…those are only stand-outs. Let’s keep in mind that hardly anybody here supported Kwagga back in 2016. Swys did and the yields were on the field for years of Lions domination while the Ruckers pundits lagged behind.

Yes Swys is a real rugby brain and I can see why Rassie had him on board Unfortunately he seems to suffer an inner battle hence having to leave the coaching roles he has been involved in So I doubt we will see him coaching again - maybe just as a consultant Rassie and Swys together gives you one hell of a team

Since Kwagga has moved to 7, he has really  excelled.  Really good in the contact,  poaching the ball and getting around the park.

But I would almost say the backrow combination is wrong. Kwagga seems to be very good at poaching the ball but Kolisi always stands off the ruck, almost next to the flyhalf  in defence. So why not just move Kwagga to 6, kolisi to 7 and leave Vermeulen / Wiese at 8.

He has been underrated all his playing career and in my opinion one of the best current flanks in RSA.

He gives every game his ALL be it the Lions, Sevens or Springboks.

My type of Springbok.

His international career was a slow burner - he looked out of his depth initially but credit to Rassie and co for sticking with him He always showed the promise

Kwagga had a poor debut, but was solid in every other test. You Plastiks are yet again slow to the party. Kwagga had been this good for the Boks for a while now. Josè is just a very stubborn and poor selector, like Snor.
