Shit, Horn misses touch and Kriel makes a high tackle...
Lions versus Glasgow Warriors URC 2026
Nice try Glasgow...very snappy stuff
Nice lines by Glascow….back in the game.
As always at Ellis Park, the visiting team needs a lead at half time because the last 30 ain't no joke
I can't believe how nondescript Ivan van Rooyen's (lions coach) bio is.
Van Rooyen climbed through the coaching ranks at the Lions Rugby Union; based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He started at the union in 2009 as a sport scientist and became Performance Excellence Manager in 2018. He became permanent head coach in 2019.
And here his team is playing the best rugby of any franchise in the country.
Glas scored while I was researching.
Lions starting to miss tackles.
Are they gonna check this one?
Nope, just a penalty for the tackle in the air
Come on that's gotta be a Lions penalty. Dude lay on the ball.
Good pressure by the Lions to force the kick directly into touch
Not a well advised hail mary offload inside by Henko.
Venter with the turnover.
And Venter, at 2m tall makes the steal!
Who else is 2m tall and is apparently too tall for such exploits?
Venter shows what Dud Toit supposedly can’t do because he’s tall…fetch
Kotze over after Glas 7 just sat there on the wrong side of the ruck.
Lovely score Leeus!
Positive rugby with a plan.
Gotta love it
Gonna be a big ask in the 2nd half for Glasgow to come back
26-7 Lions at half time
Nice try Lions….your point on Ivan van Rooyen Pakie, the Lions far more purposeful ball in hand than the Stormers or Sharks.
I love these Lions, dudes. Dobbo must be tearing his hair out to see so much 50/50 rugby.
Oh wait, I'm abusing him now. Maybe he should give up coaching for a few weeks to protect himself.
It's so clear that the Lions know what their roles are. Apart from missing some tackles, everybody just does what they're there to do.
"Van Rooyen climbed through the coaching ranks at the Lions Rugby Union; based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He started at the union in 2009 as a sport scientist and became Performance Excellence Manager in 2018. He became permanent head coach in 2019."
He has a degree that is directly relevant to his job. I bet he's got a next level stats game
Matfield saying that Venter making that steal is real quality and his over all performances must have Rassie looking on enthusiastically.
Commentators also very complimentary of Francke.
Same story every week
Lions fostering so many good players. JC Pretorius is also back and set to come on later. I mean Renzo (unless he is injured) can't even find a spot.
Glasgow need a score early in the half
Glasgow need a score early in the half
No they don't Plummie, goddamn.
Big old ankle tap on a flying Dempsey by Venter.
Nice one Kriel. For a moment I thought the ref was going to be cray-cray and not give the penalty. Oh well he was hands on the ground for a bit there. Anyhoo, onwards.
Beautiful!
Quan with a massive clearance, they chase it down and make the steal
LOL, if you give Venter a sniff there you ain't stopping him. Glas defense with a big fail there. 33-7.
Easy try for Venter.
The man is made for murder
Conversion slotted
33-7
Crucial open field tackle by Venter. You see Steff making lots of easy tackles…not those difficult open field tackles….and then the try.
Glasgow need a miracle at this point
"Crucial open field tackle by Venter. You see Steff making lots of easy tackles…not those difficult open field tackles….and then the try."
I think Venter is Rassie's type of player.
Can for sure see him getting some good chances this year
Kriel missed tackle costs meters.
Oosthuizen, another tall dude, makes the turnover.
Soft penalty Glas.
I don't want to hear no shit about tall players not making turnovers again.
Glasgow are proper flustered.
Their attack looks frustrated and like they're losing confidence
See that offload from Venter...bash and offload!?
Kriel making up for the meters he cost, big run by Kotze. Pass to Smith just not sticking otherwise they had a good shot.
"Kriel missed tackle costs meters."
Sien jy nou?
Kotze and Botha have both been impressive in general play.
