As always at Ellis Park, the visiting team needs a lead at half time because the last 30 ain't no joke

I can't believe how nondescript Ivan van Rooyen's (lions coach) bio is.

Van Rooyen climbed through the coaching ranks at the Lions Rugby Union; based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He started at the union in 2009 as a sport scientist and became Performance Excellence Manager in 2018. He became permanent head coach in 2019.

And here his team is playing the best rugby of any franchise in the country.

Glas scored while I was researching.

Are they gonna check this one?

Nope, just a penalty for the tackle in the air

And Venter, at 2m tall makes the steal!

Who else is 2m tall and is apparently too tall for such exploits?

Positive rugby with a plan.

Gotta love it

Gonna be a big ask in the 2nd half for Glasgow to come back

Nice try Lions….your point on Ivan van Rooyen Pakie, the Lions far more purposeful ball in hand than the Stormers or Sharks.

I love these Lions, dudes. Dobbo must be tearing his hair out to see so much 50/50 rugby.

Oh wait, I'm abusing him now. Maybe he should give up coaching for a few weeks to protect himself.

It's so clear that the Lions know what their roles are. Apart from missing some tackles, everybody just does what they're there to do.

Matfield saying that Venter making that steal is real quality and his over all performances must have Rassie looking on enthusiastically.

Commentators also very complimentary of Francke.

Lions fostering so many good players. JC Pretorius is also back and set to come on later. I mean Renzo (unless he is injured) can't even find a spot.

Crucial open field tackle by Venter. You see Steff making lots of easy tackles…not those difficult open field tackles….and then the try.

I think Venter is Rassie's type of player.

Can for sure see him getting some good chances this year
