Mozart, I live in Newquay Cornwall, so mostly at the local beaches here. Not so much in winter, but I did go to the Canary Islands for 3 weeks over Christmas. My long term goal is to get a house in the Canary Islands - and live there for 3 months during winter- with the other months here in Newquay, and occasionally in London. I get really unfit in winter- and I hate cold weather. The Canaries are amazing- the Hawaii of Europe. I lived in London for ages before moving to Cornwall, so I did not surf for years- which was horrible.

Nice, I envy you....I tried surfing again in my late fifties with some friends I used to surf with at varsity. One never loses the wave reading and turning....but the paddling! The other guys looked effortless. Paddling fitness is hard to simulate.
The Canaries are a great option from England....sounds like a nice plan.

Not the best surf on the planet, but the point break at Stilbaai is special...and the water is warm in the winter too....Southern Cape has probably the best climate in the world...subjective, I know, but such is life. If the ANC can just sort their sh!t, SA will be the prime destination in the world.

Jefferies it seems, remains the place. We surfed there in the sixties staying in tents on the beach.....and the Aussies were already there and awesome surfers.
My most hair raising experience was going to Cape St Francis. The folks of a friend that took us there got their wires crossed and we ended at Seal Point. The swells were over 15 ft and you had to paddle laterally over a reef between sets, to get out.
The waves were awesome, but we had no idea how to get out if we lost our boards...and those days we had no leashes. Needless to say we were conservative!
