Too often these little guys get man handled while trying to defend offering the attacker the opportunity to continue the go forward and offload.

As gifted a player Kolbe is, he was a liability today costing a try. The same applies to de Jongh and Lleyds. The Stormers can afford only one of these players on the park at a time not 3. Kolbe is the best of the 3 but play him on the wing.

Play v/Wyk or Howard at 13.

The Stormers were out thought and the subbing of the front row was naive. What a huge game Kitshoff and Koch had.

Kolisi was great and de Allende again was great. v/Wyk showed his class.

Kiwi coach and side out thinking and playing an SA side....same happens at test level.

Snapster its so obvious but small man Alistair cant admit it. its the old small small man syndrome. Kotze and Huw plus Howard - and its fixed. Also too many quality forwards missing that would retain the good forward dominance for 80 minutes

Play Howard at 13 and Taute at 15 with Kolbe and v/ Wyk on the wing. But saying that I would love to see v/Wyk at 13.
Vermaak ahead of Kebble as the bench prop is a joke.

Actually snapster Van Wyk at 13 may be  the answer for the Boks.Allende and Van Wyk could make a very good pair.
Play Kotze and Howard on the wings with Taute at 15.  Kolbe and Senatla on the bench and bring them on when space is opening up. There is absolutely no need to field a backline of lightweights.Kolbe and Leyds were shown up big time against the bigger backs of the Chiefs. Unfortunately wee Alistair refuses to see reason
If all our players were available and we had a coach who undertands Super 15 rugby the chances of the Stormers winning the Super 15 this year would be pretty good.

Also think of playing Huw Jones. Plenty of good big backs. But never play more than one microlight.

The team struggles against arguably the best  backline in the S15 and suddenly the whole backline has to be changed.  Taute is so slow he could be out stripped by props.
The same old rubbish.....depressing . The Stormers are a no better than average S15 team who have massively out performed to date.
Leave well alone.

Huw Jones, Howard  and Johnny Kotze would go a long way to making our backline more competitive and physical.
Forwards like Kebble, Etzebeth, Rhodes and Elstadt would make a big difference as well.
Stormers when players are fit ans selections are right are a top side. This was far from our best side.
I do hope Dr Moz you realise the error of your ways re Kitshof?

What did Leyds, De Jongh and Kolbe produced today.  Kolbe was trying - but he is just not big enough to be competitive.  Leyds did bugger-all and De Jongh was a disgrace. That was the long and short of the matter.
Personally I think that Kolbe is not the answer - he is too small and gets run over too easily.   I would not suggest he should be on the win either.
My backline for the Stormers are as follows:-
15.  Dillyn Leyds  14.  Huw Jones13.  Kobus van Wyk12.  Damien de Allende11.  Johnny Kotze10.  Dmitri Catakillis  9.  Nic Groom
That would be an excellent backline matching physical strength with speed as well.  The players I would like to see replaced are both an attacking and defending quackmire.

A much better backline Mike. It has some real stopping power.De Jongh could be tried on the wing. His distribution is non existent and he will never learn. Pity there isnt a place for Howard.

I am not sure it will help the game to have De Jongh in the team - he is just not physically strong enough to be competitive.  Howard would be on my bench to cover both wing and center.
By the way - aside from pathetic performances by Leyds, De Jongh and Kolbe today - nI think that the main reason for the Stormers loss can be summed up in one name - Coleman as flyhalf.   Catrakillis would not have made the bugger-ups in aimless kicking that Coleman made.  Just hand the balls to the speedy and strong Chiefs back three to run at the Stormers.   The selection of Coleman as flyhaf was pathetic in any event -so make sure Coeetzee departs asap to Japan. .

It's not all Coetzee's fault, Stormers' backline is very average, and it's not only a size problem,.... it's a quality problem.
Catrakillis, Kotze, van Wyk and Jones wouldn't have done much better, they are very average also. Untill now their lack of quality has been hidden playing against the other SA backlines (and the Blues), which are bigger but as average as stormers'.
SA has a huge problem here, they don't produce quality backline players. Except Pollard, Lambie, de Allende, Serfontein and when he has a good day, le Roux (which is not very often, just 1 every 4 matches), the rest are very average, they wouldn't make the starting XV of a NZ side and many of them not even the bench.
The next 3 weeks there are many SA-NZ derbies:

week 6:
Crusaders-Cheetahs
Sharks-Chiefs

week 7:
Chiefs-Cheetahs
Highlanders-Stormers
Bulls-Crusaders

week 8:
Canes-Stormers
Sharks-Crusaders

and this lack of quality in the bakline is gonna be exposed, as it will be exposed agaist the aussie strongest sides. I cannot see any SA team winning one of the matches above

Abasquefan: brutal but fair, it was so clear in this game when the commentators were having orgasms about the stormers scrum demolishing the chiefs scrum.
Sure it was not a pretty sight but what did they do with this dominance? The national obsession with big bully boy forwards to the exclusion of fast and skillful players all over the park is their downfall.
Wee Beeno celebrating the scrums would have been a joy to behold. I sort of felt cruel reminding him of the scoreboad but its all part of his rugby education.

De Jongh was a disgrace? Really, let's not let the facts get in the way:
FBKolbe0/002/10/63000106/20/010/0Wvan Wyk1/050/7/55921134/10/000/0Cde Jongh0/000/4/63710117/10/010/0Cde Allende0/100/5/53823117/40/000/0WLeyds0/001/4/72410003/10/000/0FHColeman0/0116/13/51600002/20/000/0SHSchreuder0/002/22/11810110/10/000/0

Frankly the only real problem I can see on a factual basis is de Allende missing nearly 40 per cent of his tackles and Coleman missing 50per cent of his tackles. The usual clueless knee jerk reactions.
Kolbe has been brilliant for WP and the Stormers through at least the last 10 games. Now he is not good enough? What an utter pile of tripe.

 Mozart the Dofdoos
He did not follow the game at all - he runs off to a set of Stats which he believes may save the disgustingly poor performances of his favourite players - now suddenly De Allende is the one he attacks outright - the rest are just fine.   What a loonie.
Kolbe was the one player that caused massive problems yesterday - both his missed tackles let to tries for the Chiefs and he was too much running straight into defenders getting tackled back badly and putting the Stormers on the back foot.  Virtually all the distance carries from De Jongh was from one ball when De Allende put him in the clear and he carried the ball about 25 meters before passing the ball to Van Wyk - who was tackled out on the corner flag.   The rest was pathetic non-events - where he was tackled back and again putting the Stormers on the back foot.   The ball possession loss ended a promising Stormers attack and the epnalty lead to a conversion by Cruden - another 3 points loss.
Yet Dofdoos missed all of that and then come up with stats - which he normally disregards - to proof his so-called points - his attack entirely aimed at De Allende, who missed tackles twice (the rest I have not seen much of) - one in the in-goal area when the try was already inevitable and once when he covered for a miss by Kolbe and although the player went out of play as a result of De Allende's tackle - he had already passed the ball back to another player who scored a try.  Kolbe was the problem in this case - not De Allende.
What a bloody clueless fool Dofdoos is.

Yeah, SBW was beaten by de Allende on the play at 14 minutes 20 secs. But SBW had some very good plays that were needed for the tries scored.
De Allende also had a big play when SBW was off the field (18 mins 30 seconds) mins.
47mins 23 seconds, SBW goes to the line & engages defensive players, offloads & now there is space outwide. Cruden has time  to loop around to create overlap, Good hands & Chiefs score try. IMO SBW is still out of it after the hit from Koch earlier in the game.
You also have to look at how many defensive players SBW occupies. He is also used as a decoy player & this helps in plays in which he is not directly involved in. In short he is contributing a great deal to the team.

So much bitching and moaning about Coetzee and his crap selections. So where was the sa saviour, Gert Smal, in alll of this? Wasn't he going to sort Coetzee out an show him the way?
Looks like he is as useful as Brendan Venter is to the Sharks. When the Sharks play well, it is because of the presence of Venter. When they are crap it is because of Gary Gold. Amazing, isn't it?

 @JW,

yeah, man, one of the commentators didn't talk but about the scrums,..... once and again,... and again,.... the scrums,..... even when the chiefs go t the penalty and the tighthead he was talking about the steroiders' scrum superiority,.... and he surely end up getting his underwear dirty

If you cannot traduce this superiority in points, it counts for nothing,...... and the SA sides (not only the stormers) have serious dificulty to do it through the backline.
The sharks are in the same boat, they are only able to traduce in points their pack's superiority through the same pack (as it happened yesterday against the cheetahs with their 2 tries through driving mauls) but they are in a big problem when they cannot do it as it happened against the stormers or will happen against the strong sides from NZ and Oz (chiefs, canes, saders, brumbies, tahs and probably landers).
When they cannot impose their pack's superiority their backline sinks. Mvovo, Marais and Ndungane are very average, F. Steyn and JP are completely out of form, specially JP, I cannot remember a player so badly situated on the field as he was against the stormers, he was always in the wrong place and gave de Allende space to do whatever he wanted.

Lleyds is average and a physical liability......de Jongh got smashed around like a doll......he is a nice little player if he was playing for your local club side.........he is TOO small for centre at S15 level......a complete liability.

The first try scored was because the little guys did not bring the attacking players down, they got owned physically.

It happened to Kolbe, Lleyds and de Jongh all game......only Kolbe is worth retaining as he is a class act, but only as a wing.....the other 2 pretenders must go.

v/Wyk and Pat Howard are far better options at 13 than wee de Jongh.

Play Taute or EW Viljoen at 15

Sorry to disappoint you - but there was no evidence to support  Williams's 40 points and it was reduced to 28 points.   In the Test Rugby competition De Allende got 200 points - Williams 100.  In the Dream T eam competition Williams got 12 points - De Allende 32 points.  So who were the better player on the day?  Definitely not Williams.
