I didn't verify the timing but the sequence fits with what I remember. Also, at least two players behind him were pleading for him to kick it.

No Saffex, not pathetic, just a gutsy ref who was sick of their time wasting, just like the Boks do after about 30 mins on the field in any test.

ABs did let in some soft tries though with the backs running up out of sequence (Rieko and Clarke) and leaving large holes for the Aussies to run through.

Also, poor tackling techniques from Clarke and Jordan which will need fixing. No good having the best attack in the world if you can't back it up on the defence front .

Papalii had his big chance with Captain Cane off but appeared to be overshadowed by the opposing loose trio, so I guess he's not the answer at 7.

Good points on AB defense Moolaa. According to ESPN stats Jordan made 8 tackles and missed 5. He missed more tackles than any other AB by far. Clarke only made 3 tackles and missed 1 but he may have been out of position a lot. He certainly needs to learn to pass the ball after these long runs he makes & he gave up 2 turnovers.

And Rieko needs to learn how to run his support lines!!

At one stage he loomed up in support of Clarke and basically almost tackled him instead of moving inside to take the obvious in pass.

Don't get me started on Sotutu's balls up though. Ran into the clear with 2 ABs free on his left. Drew the last tackler and proceeded to grubber the ball instead of just shovelling it on!

Shades of a standard DDA f... up!!

A rugby travesty of justice ............ rugby's the most stop start game imaginable, esp now with attempts to reduce head knocks etc ............ all the ref needed to do was to 'stop the clock' , just like he'd did throughout the game (in fact, any game). I don't like the refs deciding the outcome & anyway my Bokke are masters at slowing down play ......... are they to be penalised for taking a knee in pain ?

I'm forever squeamish when I see a French ref in a Bok game .

Watched the game last night. It felt like watching rugby again. Gives one some perspective on where the Boks are.

Damn that Caleb Clarke is an outstanding back. Best in position in the world at the moment for me.

NZ are far from being out of the woods. Some of their passing looked a bit forced and mechanical. To be fair, I've gained a lot more respect for them during this period, seeing how they've gotten up and what the shirt means to them, then I ever got when they were dominating.

All in all, Ireland are probably the best team in the world right now.

Lol @ the ref.

His best line was "You can't attack the leg."

The AB’s should never have won that game on the strength of that piss poor call by the ref Foley was in his stride to kick, one second later the ball would have been in touch

I don't like the fact that refs can decide the out come of this game. The AB have every chance to draw or get a try. It was brilliant counter mall and ball poaching.

Time wasting happen all the time in the game. Even so saw a game where Ruan Pienaar used the full 1min and 30 sec to convert a try to ensure the clock gets run down.

However, Foley was wasting time, ref got fedup and probably were told to speed the game up and stop wastage, but serious inconsistency as there was no evidence that this has ever happened in a test match that ref call players out for time wasting. Maybe more so around the scrum and line outs.

But then look at the amount of time penalty advantages take up. If time is a concern, then make it clear. You have 30 seconds, to have a free play and at which point if you still have the ball in hand or kicked it further down the field than advantage over. Almost reward ball in hand over aimless running

More than anything Foley was launching to kick when he blew - 10 seconds later the ball would have been in touch It’s pathetic that the ref dictated the result of that game Imagine the AB’s winning the RC on the strength of that ref call

Another cracker of a game and another game SA rugby were not involved. Same pattern as ever.

What a game.

Another cause not to support SA rugby. They rely heavily on ref whistles to make it.

While time wasting happens, especially when SA rugby are involved (time wasting is core to SA rugby strategy, any minute wasted is any minute without having to play rugby), it happens at various moments in the game.
This one happened at a critical moment in the game. The player had to be tight on it. He was not.Sure, the call was decisive on the outcome but it was as the time wasting was also critical in the outcome of the game.
Time wasting happening one minute in a game is much less likely to appear as critical.
The player failed to be tight on his time management. He wasted one second too many. One second that turned critical against his own team as would have the other seconds to the ABs without that second.
No worries though, refs most of the time are in the pocket of SA rugby, they are fully aware of the stakes so it wont happen to SA rugby.

Plum, nice that you rate Clarke so highly but to me he’s still a work in progress. Defence is poor (tackling); he doesn’t look around him for support players (seems to run away from his support & therefore susceptible to the turnover & results in promising line breaks dying). He’s a work in progress. Jordan has a problem with his defence also but he has good potential as his attacking instincts are good. He has none of the attacking weaknesses Clarke has.

The Wallabies were robbed and what's really sad is that the Kiwi fans are ok with it.

CC, Foley was warned multiple times and he chose to chance his luck. The ref stuck to his guns and hence the scrum. I would rather we won the game some other way but it is what it is. You will notice that at least two Ozzy players behind Foley where begging him to kick the ball out but he still waited so it's not like the Wobblies didn't know there was a risk in delaying.  Incidentally the Wobblies still could have stopped us scoring on th e last play but they couldn't.

well jw ... let me ask you a question.

the wallabies had a penalty ... with the final whistle imminent ... they simply needed to kick the ball to touch ... wander slowly over to take their line out ... and keep possession of the bal l for a spell and then boot it out ... to win.

why would they try waste time on their own goal line?

nah ... its pretty obvious ... foley thought the clock was still off ...

say what you want ... they were robbed ... and you guys know it.

is this what the all black fan's have become?? ... whiny bitches without integrity ... just like the bok fans when they lose.

any old excuse will do.

CC you nailer it.

I am not knocking the ref but that last call of his was not the only "strange" call he made.

He must have felt guilty as he left the field with his Line refs on his side without the custom handshake with the players after the final whistle plus his facial expression showed that he knew he had just screwed up bigtime.

It is really sad to see that such weak reffing is ongoing week after week and even worse that the Rugby Top Brass do zero about the standard of international ref standards and allow the trend to repeat itself week after week.

Could you imagine the outcry if the situation was reverse and the AB's had lost that way.

Shocking and disappointing.

Nowadays the refs have to much power....and these Small moments can cause a different outcome just like that. But besides that, the AB played well and are getting back to there killer instinct, congrats ....OZ played well to, close one.

CC, we AB fans aren’t the ones whining! It’s the Aussies and you guys because you hated the fact that the ABs won and lessened the Boks chances of taking out the comp.

Foley got caught being a smart arse so he got what he deserved. His team mate behind him could see what was going to happen and screamed at him to take the kick.

Foley was reported this morning to have said he was just checking with his forwards on how they were going to handle the line out and that’s why he hadn’t taken the kick! Completely ludicrous excuse and shows he is full of it!!

nonsense ... I dont want the Goats to win anything .. not while they select their team on skin colour.

I would actually refer the Pumas to win this thing ... but thats hardly possible.

you didnt deserve the win.

the wallabies were the better team and got robbed by an moronic ref..

why would they try waste time on their own goal line?

Ah, the intent. A favourite for advanced brains. No action is proven until the intent is proven.

For primitive minds, the questions usually are how and what for. Intent that usually is out of reach is left of the equation.

Ironically, the chronology is already quoted in the thread.

In rugby, players are not punished for time wasting but for an excess of time wasting.

Chronology:

  1. Whistle.
  2. 25 seconds later, the player was warned that the ref suspected time wasting, first warning
  3. 9 second later, the clock was stopped, second warning
  4. Player was warned the clock had restarted
  5. Seconds later, the player had still not kicked the ball and was punished
The player was warned multiple times and had many seconds to finally comply with the ref demand.
That is the how. Instead of being greedy as greedy, would he had comply at the second warning, the outcome would have been different. Nope; guy was greedy.
Guy belongs to SA or was part of the population that stole East Timor resources.

Greed, greed, greed.
