To me the Landers and Saders are looking better at this stage, but, as you said, a long way to go still.

that Hinton,... won't he be an ardent chiefs' fan?

as you said, JW, Chiefs are looking good but it's tooooooooo soon for such an statement and such a hyped article,,.... there's been too much hype around the chiefs' win over  Force,....... but it's the Force!,...... they are going to be struggling to avoid the wooden spoon of the Australasian conference,...... the week before they were also thumped by the canes,...... and it was a quite tight game untill the yellow in the last quarter of the game,..... then the chiefs run riot,.... but only then

As I said in another post, I think that the next game against brumbies it's going to be crucial for the chiefs,..... until the moment they have showed that they can destroy a team with a weaker pack but they have also struggled against stronger packs,..... if they win next sat I would understand the hype and to catalogue them as title contenders (though it will be too soon also) ,..... a win agaist the brumbies at their home is something to be considered (unlike a win agaist the Force at home),..... but if they lose they are going to face tough days,.... against the blues to begin with

IMO the most solid NZ team until the moment is the Highlanders

The Highlanders seem to have the best balance. Saders look ok but backs are not as good as the Highlanders at the moment, Chiefs pack has yet to prove themselves against tough opposition, Canes are improving but it is not clear they are up to last years standards yet.
Canes lost to the Landers by one point (not bad), got thrashed by the Brumbies, beat the Blues by 3, thrashed the Kings & Force. So with these results it's too early to tell. They have the Jags next, will they Jags finally settle down & play a smart game. Their forwards will give the Canes a decent test.
