According to this article, Marcell Coetzee could be the next high-profile South African to head to the Northern Hemisphere.

Will be a great pity if it's true. The Sharks don't have a lot of world class players on their books at the moment and Coetzee is (was?) definitely one of them.

He could be one of the first players to bail out of the "Super" 18.
These foreign teams are idiots. They should, at least, respect the players privacy and allow them to make the announcement themselves after the current team's season- instead of at the start of it.
The same thing happened with Vermeulen last season who was captain of the Stormers. Vermeulen got out fo the plane and a whole bunch of journalists were waiting. Hardly great for team spirit to have your team captain fly off during the week- only for his team mates to learn in the media that he is leaving

Soon we will have no players other than the Kings and some of the quotas that unfortunately will not be purchased.

We don't need this...Marcell is a standout player that will be snatched by any rugby board/club/franchise...one of real stars...the complete loose forward.

It's getting rather depressing seeing this trend...toothless leaders in our sport...sadly this trend will grow...cannot fault the players...charity begins where you are rewarded and appreciated. One of my favourite players...watched this young man since his Port Natal Hoerskool days...a magnificent energetic player...one of our best.

He reminds me of some of the forgotten greats...Rob Louw,Snowy Suter type loosies...quick,imposing and unrelenting...tough aggressive and bold...the type of player thats a huge stimulation to his side...if he goes it will create a large vacuum in Sharks rugby, despite the injection of the ex-Kearsrn ey twins...Marcell is a great team contributor with a high work rate and ethic...could play for any club or country in the world...a really nice guy too...very popular with his team mates...

It's official. Coetzee has signed for Ulster and will start his 3 year contract after the current S18.

More bad news ............. but the players have little to lose, if the coach rates him he'll continue to play for the Boks .

Imo. its time to turn our backs on the 'leavers' & adopt the Oz/NZ policy of selecting the 'homeboys' only .

Agree 100% Blob. You should only be eligible to play for the Springboks if you played in that season's Super Rugby comp or the Currie Cup. No exceptions.
