Meyer should have become the bok coach is 2008. Instead PDV got the job and the rest is history.

Now Meyer gets the job- and all his Bulls players are past their best, retired or playing in Japan or France.he

How he would have loved to have got a job when all those Bulls were in their prime after 2007.

Now he is left with the Bulls of 2012. The Potgieters, Spies, Morne(out of form).

Now he has to do a rebuilding phase with the boks. He needs to choose the form players- most on this board agree on at least 70% of the starting team(no bulls).

He needs to forget about the Bulls, and choose Sharks and Stormers with a few exceptions.

Cant wait until the team annoucment next

When I checked last, the Sharks provided the bulk of the squad for the England series.

good point....to be fair HM should have been the coach in 2008. to sit here and wonder what could have been would not be productive. a lot has changed to be honest not only the rules of the game there is a big amount of young talent that is just dying to be developed.

he needs to really wakeup and see how the things will develop from now on into the RWC. pick a playing style that will compete and use all the talent that is to our team. the days are gone of trying to bash up the line but rather to use the ball and use a high attacking high ball possesion style of play to attack and win. attack is the new defence.

the team announcement will be very very interesting

Sharkbok

The Bull class of 2007-08 was basically involved in the 2007 WC - and Meyer - being a very good coach, kept them and won the Super 14 repeatedly.   However, by 2010 the players - being past their best - started running out of steam.   The result was a team of "rugby geriatrics" being sent to compete in the 2011 WC.   There was not much that Meyer would have done in that case - because he would not have had to courage to start looking past what was then already evident - the "rugby geriatrics" and the need for replacement of key players.   The end result would have been the same as the case was under De Villiers - bad news at best.

The bravoury of a coach is to realize when and how to affect changes to keep up to modern rugby trends and to make changes when and if necessary.   Would that have been the case under Meyer - I doubt it very much.

All valid points Mike. I still feels the geriatrics could have won 2011.

Australia were poor in the semi- and any form of a game plan from the boks could have won the tournament.

The Allblacks were also not at their best- the traditional peak before the world cup from them

Back to the current status quo- Meyer can reminisence about the 2007 bulls.

However he needs to build the boks now- and not with the 2012 Bulls

Some of the immediate discards

Werner Kruger- some one shoot him.

The potgieters- NO NO

-Spies (Bench at best)

-Morne (Bench at best)

Missie - NO NO

Kirchner- NO NO

Sharkbok

Brilliant post - I agree with you 100%.    I think special attention must also be paid to Hougaard to improve his game.   Get some top old class scrummies in to advise him on what is the best play for scrummies - but please leave Joost and Fourie out of that category - he already knows how to wave his arms at players to form up to receive the ball..

i agree.....but meyer will need to pull the same type of building job that he did at the bulls that brought them to that level. the difference is that the real development of players cant really be done at international level so the francises ext need to get there house in order.

bulls team need to rebuild after losing there exp players but with the amount of signings they will be a major force again very soon

cheetahs needs more depth and money. there playing style and player development is among the best i think.

sharks are the best in terms of playing style and players but i feel they require more depth in certain places to be the best.

lions well they need al the help they can get

stormers biggest problem is behind the scenes and a playing style which i think supersport should have a age restriction on it seeing that watching that type of rugby people might never switch on there tv;s again

HM has a great pool of young talent to pick from. he just needs to stick his head out and pick the inform younger players and get rid of the dirt trackers like the zane's werner kurger and potgieters of the world. he should do fine if he is less biased in selections. the talent is there but he playing style needs a major overhaul

We need to be careful to play our own game suited to our own strengths and NOT be sucked into the basket ball game the abs love.

That means we hammer them in the forwards, tackle them into oblivion and dazzle them with some nice attacking but NOT trying to run every ball.

The point was made that the Sharks should not try and beat the Chiefs at their own game. The sharks need first to assert some foward authority and run off good ball. The Boks also must do this. This is where our competitive edge lies. We produce better forwards than nz do.

Stu we also dont want too many sharks players. I fear they are now being overhyped!  Maak al die sharkies bokke etc!

I am trusting Meyer will select a squad that makes sense.

fair point beeno but that does not mean that you neglect other areas of your game for the sake of just playing to your strong points. sharks are not playing a basketball style of rugby that is very daft comment to make. they have fused there great pack with a backline that is useing the chances created to score try's....nothing basketballish about that game pattern. its well coached well executed and well suited to playing against any type of team seeing that cracked the so called uncrackable stormers defence not once but a few times.

one must earn the right to go wide. playing 10 stormers rugby is not playing to your strength but rather just allow the likes of the ab and aussies to play to there strong points and that is running with the ball. take that away from them and attack them then you see that they are beatable. best form of defense is attack. the rules of the elv's has changed to way one should approach the game. the teams that play well and are sucessfull knows this and plays to that.

our edge should be to create total rugby. forwards dominating and backline that is also dominating
