Mogg hails White genius13 May 2016 22:38Montpellier forced Quins into submission.Montpellier's two try hero Jesse Mogg reckons Jake White's magic formula allowed the French side to lift the European Rugby Challenge Cup for the first time.Mogg came off the replacements bench after 17 minutes to lead the charge to glory in a 26-19 victory. First, he sprinted home from 20 metres to score the game's first try, before leaping over Jamie Roberts to touch down for the decisive score.

Quins came back into it, as they had done in their previous three Challenge Cup triumphs, but Montpellier held on to claim victory in-front of their raucous support at the Grand Stade de Lyon. And Mogg reckons Rugby World Cup winning coach White brought in the perfect personnel to secure Montpellier a continental triumph and a place in next season's European Rugby Champions Cup.

He said: "We've been building towards this since Jake White came in 18 months ago. We had 20 new players this year so it's pretty special to win something like this in the first European Challenge Cup final the club has played in. We've still got the Top14 to come, but it's a special moment.

"Jake has brought the right players in, we've got a big forward pack with a lot of South Africans who get over the gain-line. It leaves the backs to use our skill-sets to get some tries. It's exciting to watch the big guys get around the corner and carry the ball, and we've got guys who want to make tackles in defence which is great to see.

"I hadn't played in four weeks so I was worried about the lungs, but I was trying to do my part by getting territory and giving support. We've been working a lot on finishing tries this year and it paid off with that first one."

 I think its how smart Jake is that stumps certain oaks, Ou maaaikie, saffex and roitwitter come to mind! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha
You have to pretty dumb to not realise Jake is a quality coach. For some that not a problem!

 What purpose does this constant stories baoutr White served on this site.  Virtually everybody agrees that -
*   it was wrong of SARU to terminate his services after a successful WC campaign in 2007 - very rare exceptions on this site disagree with that; but 
*   he fouled up badly as coach of the Sharks whether people like it or not.
There is no chance that White would ever coach another SA side and that makes all the postings on White really immaterial.  He is a good coach in some respects - but the havoc he caused in the case of the Sharks would not be forgiven by many Shark supporters.    

 No actually he never fouled up as Sharks coach. It was just one more of his successes...Junior Boks, Boks, Brumbies, Sharks...Montpellier.

 Just a pity he's so damn unreliable.
Breaking contracts and leaving teams in the lurch is standard practice for this prick.
Wouldn't want him anywhere near the Lions.

 How can you expect ou maaaaikie to recognise a smart coach when he failed dismally recognise a very smart guy like Trum*p is what I ask myself.
Which contracts did Jake break. Please provide the list for scrutiny cc.

Mike, didn't the Sharks finish as best SA team in the year he coached them recently? Saffex, other coaches did the same but didn't get the results dude. Jake White is a bit of a Jose "e'special Wan" :)

Sure - but they lost the play-offs by a huge margin.  
White's problem all along has been two-fold.   He s totally clueless about backline play and his teams normally has major problems in scoring tries.
Secondly he has favourite players and he is harsh when it comes to treatment of players - but never his favourites.   That was evident in his treatment of Keegan Daniel when he coached the Sharks.
It is no wonder that Mogg said the above.  He played for the Brumbies when he coached them.  However, Mogg went backwards in performance and did not - like under White - regularly started for the Brumbies subsequently.   He contracted twop of his brumbies favourites - Mogg and White - to join him art Montpellier - with a massive salary thrown in.  
I personally think he is an average coach with serious limitations - namely iro backline coaching and his tendency to cause problems with players who are not favourites of his.              

Some flop....6 places above the next Safa team. Eat your crow Tokkie

 Ou maaaaikie this is embarasing - ditto poor snapster! When even ou cerudunce windpomp gets it right one wonders how the rest go wrong!

Jake is not a genius but an effective coach in "slam Dunk" rugby...a term the yanks use in their boring winner takes all all sport without refineries or class...rolling malls, 10 man rugby and result orientated sport...sacriledge to the true lovers of the game...flowing and balanced...our Kiwi friends are streaks ahead and provide the standard of rugby that is attractive (and effective) to the game. All the minnow rugby playing nations set their standards on NZ rugby and not ours or England, Wales and France.

I've been absent 'cause I've been holidaying in this countries most beautiful spots and to be honest Super rugby is not my forte and with respect to the honourable team of posters which I do respect but yes we see things different...I prefer watching (if Streams are available) minnow rugby and schools rugby.

I despise the way rugby is going and it's money grabbing tendancies at the expense of wonderful rugby talent that is being contaminated. I miss the old rugby...the tests and look forward every 4 years to the WC.

Anyway , forgive me, I'm different but I still love the game and don't criticise you for your love of "fast food" commercial rugby...I guess there might be a few that agree here.

I was wrong when I predicted that new comers Jaguaures and Sun Wolves would improve in so short of time this year...they won't...simply because it takes time to adapt to super rugby...they'll nevertheless will shine in years to come...super rugby has it's strong points in that it elevates the intensity of the game but the downside it destroys so many other aspects of the game.

I see the Crusties winning this competition with the Highlanders as the threat.

Welcome back.   I was hoping you would contact me during your sojourn to Hermanus and the Southern Cape.  I hope you enjoyed it.   

Ol' Maaikie never got down so far as Southern Cape which is a place that I love. But my wife (and me too) adore the mountains, the rivers, and the good Afrikaaners you find in the Rhodes area of the Eastern Cape...the real salt of the earth and best people in the universe...tough, resolute, kind and entertaining people with absolute integrity and generiosly which is overpowering...met a relation of Frans Steyn who is a lovely guy who helped us when we had 2 punctures on these rough roads.

Rhodes is beautiful...our friend Dave Walker runs the Walkerabouts in Rhodes...the best pub with the best people you can meet in SA.
