The game was dull, collectively poor, with flashes of individual brilliance now and then.
Northampton was also out of the race.
The english clubs are managing the european cup: they will get two clubs with solid winning chances, the rest will spare energy to focus on the domestic league.

The article shows how important that quota policy stuff is. Excellent men enjoy thinking in circles and this is another example of it.
Article proposition: make the SA team a bottleneck. Players going abroad lose the opportunity to play for the SA national team.
Here, the quota stuff must click to protect from basic considerations. The proposition would be a nice plan but players are spooked by the quota policy, they flee abroad.
A self servicing story.
Short examination of the proposition:
The SA team is 30 active positions. In a large addition, 70 players in stand by.
For a total of 100 positions.
The four higher paying top 14 clubs are already 4 by 30=120 active positions, all of them providing as good as or better salaries.
Adding the equivalent four english clubs doubles the market.
The rest, 10 french clubs and 8 english clubs adds 18 * 30=540 active, good paying positions.
Making the national team a bottleneck wont work: salaries in Europe are going to increase and the market is large enough to drain all the extended pool locked by the national team.
Very basic. And this is when quota policy serves well to ecape those basic considerations.
