Another SA player is leaving our shores - but lets be realistic about him.   I do not think there is a very real chance of Morne Steyn remaining a Springbok in future.   He will by August be 29 years of age and a three year deal would see him as virtually at the end of his playing career.   A deal could have a major impact on his future financial security.   I wish him well for the future.

This could be a major problem for the Bulls  . Morne was a key to their style of play and the Bulls will have to face the fact that he would have to be replaced.   `It would be advisable for the Bulls to start phazing in one of their younger flyhalfs during the Super Series already and either select them to start or put them on the bench and give them reasonable playing time during matches.   It may not have all that important an impact on their style of play though - since both are really playing more like Morne than is readily accepted by the general public.

Saffex will be delighted by this move as it would give one of his young guns a chance in future - bt would it really be that important in the position of the Bulls in Super 15 this year?

Big loss for the bulle and possibly even the Boks. Morne will come right goal kicking wise and his other play has been reasonably good. He is a seasoned flyhalf.

Frogs are ultimately cutting their greedy throats by all these imports.

What ou snapster thinks of Morne is a laugh of course. We are howeve fortunately well covered in this position with guys like lambie, Goosen, jantjes and the Cat.

Please Mike will you get over your Jantjes phobia. Three senior coaches have all expressed confidence in the man you insist on trashing. Please allow Jantjes a chance at the Stormers before finally writing him off. Why Jantjes should collapse in a heap at the Stormers after doing well at the Lions is a mystery to me. Grant is however a rock steady flyhalf and Jantjes may well battle to displace him this year. So no I told you so if Grant is the primary flyhalf at the Stormers this year. He has been for some seasons now.

Beeno covering the bases re the canny Mike

One of course wishes Morne, who has been a great servant of South African rugby, all the very best. He has played the game with distinction and one trusts ou snapster will give him a decent send off as is proper. Rise above your predjudices for once snapster.

It is amazing how some oaks don't realise that Steyn is quite capble of playing a running game as we have witnessed with the bulle on many occassiosn. Such limited appreciation of Steyn's abilities.

Beeno

Did I mention Jantjies anywhere in my comments on Morne Steyn.s departure?   I did not - but I assume you raised him as a potential Stormers flyhalf.   Lets get that one issue clear.

Which three senior coaches have expressed their confidence in Jantjies.   I assume Mitchell is not one of those after the fiasco in the Lions game against the Stormers after replacing him early - resulting in which Jantjies together with Josh Strauss went on an undermining programme leding to the Mitchell fiasco withthe Lions.   In the relevant game there was one issue that became clearer and that was the LIons backline functioned better when he was NOT on he field of play.

Lets face facts - there are clear deficiencies in Jantjies' performances as a flyhalf and I am not going to repeat it here.   I hope he does not fail as miserably as he did in the Soweto test - but we will see how he goes in thepre-season matches and early Super Series games and I certainly will assess his performances fairly - but without any credit if he does not deserve it.

I think the problem is that Morne Steyn has been forced into playing a stereotyped game by the Bulls coaches and that his one-dimensional play has been fored onto him - ultimately detracting from his potential as an attacking flyhalf.   In the process he became less and less of a comprehensive flyhalf and that became a major problem.   When his kicking failed - he lost the plot completely.   He may be far better in France with a less stringent and more open-minded playing style being allowed.

Mike you do make one very good point there: Morne might get his old groove back playing in France.

all the best morne, the writing was on the wall, 2012 was his worst season to date and now he can go make some big $$$ up north, which is a nice way to top of what is really a ddecorated Bok career.

it wouldnt surprise me to see morne get his groove back in france, i dont believe the level of competition there is on the same level as spXV, but they do spned a lot of time playing, so if morne finds his radar, look for him to start rewriting the french history books.

will never forget ur goal kicking heroics in the 2009 TriNats which made u despised and respected in NZ, lolz, :oP

again all the best to morne and God bless hi and his whanau, :o)

No real lose really to the boks.

He was at his best behind Fourie Dupreez, but never a great strategical player apart from goal kicking. His decision making this year was terribale, and took aimless kicking the ball out of hand to new levels.

He usually only played well on the highveld behind a dominant pack where his pole kicking converted pressure into points.

Sassu, was Frans Steyn not responsible for a couple of monster kicks as well? IIRC he clinched a couple of games for us from about 60m out. Won a few games for us playing at 15.

Alas, speaking from experience, all that French food goes straight to the hips and poor old Frans has succumbed to all the good living.

Sadly in this day and age it's almost impossible to avoid big fat yarpy disease.

.Not to mention settling down with his woman so we can practically rule him out of any more appearences in the bok jersey.

Although miracles do happen if you think back to some of those world cup wins we probably did'nt deserve and if we get desperate enough due to the perenial lack of depth and talent Frans could stillmake a comeback,,
