The loss of Marx negatively changes the dynamic in the pack. That hole needs to be filled unless the Boks are prepared to the forego the advantages gained from his presence. The Boks simply cannot afford to lose the benefits of an all important strategy to their gameplan.
Toothpick Mostert is not that player, he is not a fetcher or a ball carrier, against Tonga he got tackled backwards on both his attempts to ball carry.

Well said Plum….selecting your players by the pound has always been popular, but has never worked. Recall when we had by far the bigger pack in the 2003 QF and the ABs killed us with mobility and then came back and destroyed our fatties in the scrum.
Balance is crucial and our pack, with Mostert still dominates the scrums and the lineouts, but covers the tight/loose far more effectively.

Mostert is consistently in the top echelons when it comes to tackle counts. And those are the games guys like Dave will tell you he did stuff all. Even in that close fought win over the All Blacks in 2018 everyone was waxing lyrical about PSDT's 24 tackles, yet no one gave Mostert, who had made the same number while missing three less, even a mention. Maybe if he dyed his hair blonde.

Eben can play 80 minutes as we have seen. The idea a lock has to be a slim guy like Mostert to play well for 8O minutes is of course absurd. We have even seen 118 kg old man Vermuelen play 80 minutes!
Snyman currently may or may not be able to play 80 minutes because of where he is in his comeback. In the past he could.
My solution: start with Eben and Snyman. Snyman goes of after say 55 minutes and Kleyn comes on. Eben plays 80 minutes.
Dense is right. Our game plan is based on physicality. If you have Bongi, Mostert and Kolisi that doesn't help your physicality. Snyman helps bring that back. Those like ou mozzzzzz who love the offload should love that about Snyman.
I see some oaks are still banging on about Esterhuizen being so much superior to Allende. I posted a clip where Jean de Villiers says Esterhuizen is playing great rugby but is no better than Allende. He picks the experienced Allende and Kriel as his centers. All this goes to show things are not quite as cut and dried as less informed people think.
