Everybody was right in the tulip bubble till it burst Plum. Everybody who bought CDOs was right until they started defaulting. Bitcoin may be the exception to this sorry history...who knows, but I doubt it.
By the way if you want to watch an interesting movie on CDOs, look for the Big Short....it's a bit overblown, but entertaining and it explains the emergence of credit default swaps quite nicely. For every $1000 of underlying mortgages there was often more than $10000 of "insurance" written ....crazy stuff.

Isn't it true that for every 1000 the bank loans you, they loan put 900 of that...then 800 of the 900...then 700 of the 800, all the way down? So that ultimately they have created that money they've loaned you of the ether? In other words, on the basis of having 1000 in actual money they loan put about 9000, and then get interest paid on that 1000 + 9000? Big score for them. Still not sure how it's legal.
