He made a complete fool of himself - missed three tackles from what I can see - gave away the penalty Cruden converted and then got red-carded because of a dangerous tackle.   That after the referee warned the teams against dangerous, illegal and irresponsible play

The other village idiot on the field of play was Bismarck du Plessis - another red-card offence.

Can any center in SA be worse than Francois Steyn?   Maybe I should not have been surprised - I expected a disaster from Steyn this weekend - but the magnitude of the disaster I did not expect.

Remember this when you try and advocate the inclusion in the Springbok team of this absolutely useless player.

Incidentally the two Sharks players who showed something during the match in question was Lambie and Reinach - but I expect from you that you will blame them for the loss that will follow the Frans Steyn disaster.

The red for Fransie was a bit unfortunate as confusion reigned with reinach also involved

The red for Fransie was 100% justified.  Hew made the spear tackle by lifting Cruden off the ground and the way Cruden ended up on his head hitting the ground first is extremely dangerous.
There is absolutely no excuse for Steyn - the ref spoke to both captains asking them to pacify their players and not play dangerous and u,nlawful rugby before - and Steyn ignored even even that warning.

This match was a Sharlls win - largely because of REINACH and LAMBIE - despite the BS display by Franscois Steyn and Bismarck du Plessis.   Both deserve a three week ban for their shocking conduct on the field of play.

Waaaaaaaaahahaha
"Incidentally the two Sharks players who showed something during the match in question was Lambie and Reinach - but I expect from you that you will blame them for the loss that will follow the Frans Steyn disaster" ..... says Moronic

Is it early mouth or does the stupidest poster on this Board actually think the Sharks lost? The mind boggles.

The Sharks were lucky today. The weather turned things into a physical arm wrestle which the Sharks were able to win helped by home ground advantage.
Frans Steyn often tackles smaller smaller players into the ground like Shayne Williams from Wales a few years back. More recently his technique seems to have developed into a spear tackle. Cruden landed very dangerously on the neck area so it was certainly a red card.
Bismaark is a fool. I am not sure if the boot was intended for the face or the chest area, but it was idiotic.
He should never be made Springbok captain, and neither Sharks captain.
He was laughing when he was sent off, as was Frans Steyn.
On that note the New Zealand teams often hold onto key players from the opposition team to pull them out of the game.

Mike and Sharkbok are both right...the ref did the right thing...this type of play from senior players is a bloody disgrace...a bad and extremely poor example for the younger players and pinpoints a serious mindset flaw that exists in the Sharks camp and there are others too...discipline is a major strength in a side. Having said that the rest of the Sharkies well done...13 men and missing a good slice of key players in terrible weather conditions and soldiered on against the best side in NZ.

Cruden could have been very seriously injured...heaven forbid what would been the outcry in the rugby world if a Chris Burger incident occurred...Francois Steyn must grow up and play the game by the law ...this was a blatant spear tackle...with no attempt to ensure that Cruden landed safely...Reinach cannot be blamed...a yellow card would have been far too lenient.

As for Bissie's hooligan tactics...senior player and captain...a real shame, especially from a well educated boy from Grey Bloem...incidentally so is Frans.

Yes ofcourse rugby is very tough and hard but blatant foul and dangerous tactics must be severely penalised and eradicated...laws are there to be adherred to...if you flaunt them severe punishment is the only way to deal.

Bloody idiot - the time I posted that was ad follows:-
March 21, 2015, 20:03:00
Fact is I started writing that before halftime
I wrote what I did after Steyn's red card and before the game ended - I was so disgusted. Supreme idiocy and absolute lack of a logical response on your part showing.
So what about a response from you about Steyn's BS display.  Nothing - as expected.

Cape Town - A SANZAR judicial hearing has found Francois Steyn of the Sharks not guilty of contravening Law 10.4 (j) (lifting tackling), after he was sent off in a Super Rugby match at the weekend.

The incident occurred in the 28th minute of the match between the Sharks and Chiefs at Kings Park on Saturday.

Jannie Lubbe chaired the hearing on Monday morning, with De Wet Barry attending as the judicial technical adviser, being a former professional player.

"After careful consideration of video evidence, including additional video evidence and still frames submitted by the legal representative of Francois Steyn, Gerrie Swart, as well as the oral explanation of Steyn, it was concluded that Steyn did not act in breach of Law 10.4 (j)," Lubbe ruled in his finding.

"It was also found that two other Sharks players were involved in the tackle and that one of the players, Cobus Reinach, played a significant part in what appeared to be a serious and dangerous tackle.

"A detailed analysis of the execution of the tackle by Steyn clearly showed that he executed a perfectly legitimate tackle on Aaron Cruden, but that the intervention of his teammates applying additional and external forces to the dynamic tackle situation resulted in what the referee deemed to be a breach of Law 10.4 (j).

"This decision is not meant to be critical of the match officials who had to take and make their decision on the field of play without the benefit I had of additional video material and submissions by legal counsel.

"The referee and his assistant on the available evidence at their disposal came to the conclusion that Cruden got lifted in the tackle by Steyn and made contact with the ground with his head first.

"The video material before me clearly shows that Cruden made contact with the ground first with his right hand and upper arm, followed by shoulder and back.

"The momentum of the tackle then caused him to roll so that his head and neck made contact with the ground.

"As a result of this finding, the red card will be expunged from the player's record."

 Ceradunce
I accept that Steyn was cleared on all charges - but that was not all that matters.  His performance before he was carded was atrocious - that counts for a lot with any thinking person.  Just look at his stats and you will see a complete hash:-
Steyn0/001/2/1100011/20/020/1
*  He handled the ball once - no meters gained and lost possession of it*  He attempted 3 tackles missing 2 of those*  He gave away two penalties
Leaving aside the card and bearing in mind he played for 28 minutes - that was the worst I have seen from a center in decades.
The man was a serious flop in the first match he played in this year against the Stormers - when De Allende played the fool with him.   Against the Cheetahs he had a very average opponent and his stats were not much better:-
Steyn1/051/5/61902114/20/010/0
The distance gained in ball carries was on average 3,1 meter and voila - he beat 2 defenders.  His defense was piss poor and he lost ball possession once and gave away a penalty.
So in three games played   he lost ball possession  4 times and gave away 6 penalties - that was even worse than his atrocious performance records in 2013 and 2014.
This leniency at the disciplinar y hearing is going to cost the Sharks dearly in future.

No use splashing your beloved stats. He only played 27 minutes. It is even of less use if you are going to get the assessment wrong in any case. You said that he handled the ball  once and that was even after you actually quoted his "stats".
Steyn0/001/2/1100011/20/020/1
The way I see it, he handled it four times. One kick, two passes and he ran it once.
The above, however, is not unfamiliar from you. It is your usual MO to exaggerate the facts or BS to try and make your point.

100  per cent justified.......Moronic had no doubts. Not even a half of one per cent doubt. He trashed Frans  on string after string as a thug.
What a totally lousy person this crusty old blowhard has shown himself to be

Frans Steyn without doubt needs to be involved with the Boks......he is a class act. Stupid tackle yes, but he is hardly the first offender

What has Fransie done that was so marvelous that he is rated by you as a potential Springbok?  Use the stats in all three games he played in and justify your support for him. In my book he was piss-poor - as bad as he was in 2013 and 2014.
Virtually zero attacking ability - and do not tell me he scored a try - the try was made for him by the Sharks forwards.   A scandalous defense record - even worse than it was in 2014,  a propensity to lose possession of balls and give away penalties.
So please explain what are the positives - dofdoos.

 Ceradunce - Mozart's double dofdoos
What has that to do with his performances in the games he played in.   Are you like your brother Dofdoos who is always wise after the fact and never dared to express an opinion on the match.   He obviously lied when he said he never saw the match, because there was nothing in the game he could blame Reinach or Lambie for - and he could not explain away the poor performance of Fransie.

Steyn's value to the Sharks' effort is subjective and a matter of opinion. That fact that you deemed the red card as 100%  correct is an indisputable fact.
BTW, how is your 47 runs per over batsman doing?
