After the match Mozart found a report on the injury to Du Toit and rushed to put it non this site - gloating about the injury.   There was no scan undertaken - no specialist report and the newspaper report was based on no scientific evidence.

I repeatedly pointed out that the medical evaluation was missing and that before rejoicing done - as was the case with Mozart - we must wait for the medical evidence.

So what happened next?   Du Toit went to see the Specialist in Cape Town on Monday and the following report was on Sharksworld afterwards:-

"Pieter-Steph du Toit will see a second specialist in Cape Town today after yesterday’s initial appointment didn’t go quite as badly as expected.

We’re a long way from being able to make any sort of announcement here – and the player still needs your good wishes and prayers as much as ever – but there must now be at least a little doubt that doom and gloom prognosis from yesterday is accurate.

We did say yesterday morning that we were reacting to media reports regarding the injury and that the Sharks had yet to confirm anything. Yesterday’s injury report from the union fell a long way short of what all of us feared and in this case, we need to fervently hold on to the hope that no news is, indeed, good news.

Keep those messages of support coming and continue to pray – harder than ever. Maybe, just maybe, things aren’t as bad as at first thought."

So on Tuesday Pieter-Steph du Toit saw another Specialist and wrote as follows on his Twitter account:-

" The Sharks and Springboks have been given a massive boost as Pieter-Steph du Toit has undergone an operation and could be back for the end of the Super Rugby season.

The Sharks second rower injured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the 36th minute of the Sharks 10-27 victory over the Cheetahs on Saturday.

Early expectations were that Du Toit would miss the rest of the season which meant an end to his Super Rugby season and no Rugby World Cup for the Sharks lock.

However Du Toit has revealed on his Twitter account that he has undergone surgery and that the doctor says provided his rehab goes well he could be back in three months.

"A MIRACLE just happened. Just got home after surgery, everything went well, "said Du Toit in his Twitter feed.

"Doc said I will be able to play in 3 months, if rehabs goes well."

While Du Toit has a chance of playing in the business end of the Super Rugby it would seem that if all goes well he could make the world cup with the Springboks.
This must have been a very miinor surgical procedure - for him to have had today and being at home already.
In the meantime Mozart must be devastated by the news,   After all the injury to Du Toit's knee was caused by his "thin shoulders" and "thin wrists" - according to him.
Sincere sympathies Mo zart - one has to take the good with the bad - you know.

I think that's BS Mike...Moz plays games but will not stoop to this level.

Hey Mike, time for peace...all of us are really united once the selectors have called...whether according to our preferences or not. Moz is definitely not one of these...have pity on him living in a cess pool of Chicago
Pieter Steph is certainly not fragile and will recover, that you can be very sure of.

Nope, my brother had major back surgery a couple of weeks ago....a laminectomy on a prolapsed disc. He was out of Hospital the next day. Can barely walk, can't sit, is unable to do anything much for 9 weeks....so no, major or minor surgery, they cut you up and ship you out these days, Mike !!

This seems extremely sketchy to me, not the report, but the fact his time out has been reduced by 60%. Why doesn't any other player have this operation when they have an ACL tear? What repercussions will there be on his performances? All big questions.

I think what happened here is becoming increasingly clear.  Du Toit's knee was injured during the evening match against the Cheetahs.  He was walking around after the match - and the commentators mentioned that the initial impression was that it was not as serious as first thought.
Within 2 hours after the match the local correspondent filed a report that Du Toit was seriously injured and that he would be out of rugby for the rest of the year.   That report found its way into the local media and was generally circulated in the media.  However, at that stage there was no scan done and no specialist report supporting the media reports was in evidence.
The knee being painful - the Sharks management and Du Toit himself decided to consult the specialist who operated on his knee on Monday.  A scan was taken and the first report reaching the Sharks management was encouraging - but not finally conclusive and it was arranged for a second specialist to have a look himself and see whether any further action from a medical perspective was necessary today.
The second specialist must have agreed and found it necessary to do a minor surgical procedure on Du Toit - it could not have been anything major, otherwise he would have been admitted to a hospital,  which  obviously was not the case.  After the operation Du Toit went home and send a message on his twitter account that indicates the basic situation, as well as the fact that he would be on a programme to get him back playing in three months time - ie somewhere in early June.
What is absolutely clear is that he is not as seriously injured as originally thought and that his recuperation will not take more than three months - may even be less - depending on the progress made.
That means Du Toit would be available to play in the RC and consequently in the WC.
I was always clear in my mind on the issue as to the original media reports.  This was based on the comments of the commentators during the match - but more so  on the fact that there was no medical evidence at the stage the  media story started circulating and that it would be better to wait for the final medical reports before going bananas based purely on media sensationalism.
I think it was wise to keep the story going based purely on media guessing and am now more satisfied that we have the real thing that happened after the match.    The final report on the Sharks website confirms the situation:-
"Pieter-Steph du Toit today underwent a knee stabilisation procedure in Cape Town.  The surgery went well and the damage to the knee joint was not as bad as originally thought.

We hope to have him fit again in three months"

Actually today you can have the knee replacement surgery at 6.00 am in the morning and walk out on your new knee at mid day. This injury appeared to happen as Steph went backwards and turned. It was pretty minor physical stuff, so the damage is surprising. I hope this works out.

All the gloating done now takes a new turn -  the incident is described differently from what actually happened and the "minor incident "  out of total context as to what actually happen and "it was pretty minor physical stuff, so the damage is surprising."
Mozart will never learn - his original story now has to change and change it did - so now he "hopes this works out."
Still hopes that Du Toit cannot play so it does not affect Matfield?

The headlong rush to come up with the newspaper report - without a word about the potential correctness on the story - based entirely on hearsay and story without any medical assessment and support - represents gloating in its worst form.
Then followed the imaginary misrepresentations as to "thin shoulders" and "thin wrists" under the same threat  as if that has somehow having a bearing on the injury and the nature of the injury - represents gloating as well.
However, you have a history of gloating about injuries - real or imaginary - of players you dislike.   That is clear also in this case providing  clear evidence that you gloat about injuries to players and the Du Toit one was no different from your conduct in the past.
