Mozart - you always write negatively about the SA teams

Because the oldies have departed - yet the First SA team to play a NZ team away in Super Rugby has beaten the Chiefs - so how bad is the state of SA Rugby after the departure of the useless geriatrics?   

Mike I firmly believe SA rugby was spoiled by the success of the Bulls team some years ago. For some reason everyone suddenly thought that it's the only way we can play. Mike, I'm with you, Saffex and others who say that we have ample talent. Who even knew of any of the players in the current Lions team three years ago. Nobody, that's who. Yet here they are, many of the household names. I lived out of SA for many years, and it was odd for me when I came back how there was this idea about kick and chase, though every senior citizen I spoke to about rugby always seemed to to say that we always used to be a running rugby country. Those years in black and white were we dominated NZ by running the ball. So, to me it's quite interesting to try and understand where the idea of skop en vang came from. Best I can understand is that it partly came from the Bulls happy years with Matfield. Breyton Paulse's statement this morning paralleled what many of us have been saying. "How some of these Lions players never made the WC Bok squad is a mystery"

Faf got left behind cos Page had to be selected..... Kriel cos Oupa was needed.

 Bob, what I can't understand is why? What can the government do if our sports admin tell them to FO? I wasn't a Louis Luyt fan, but he at least put his foot down a few times. I think the government isn't our biggest problem, but a handy excuse used by SARU to hide behind while filling their pockets. I can't wait for this can of worms to be opened.

 Draad,  the Hoskins & Jurie & Lorgat etc will never ever tell the govt to F.O., & there's the problem .......... they have our top sports administrators in their sakkie . That's why I'm totally ambivalent if any of them lose their jobs .... they'll only be replaced by some other muppet/puppet .

Draad, i think you are pretty spot on with that one. And besides...even if Oupa and Page were forced selections, Faf and Kriel were still better than the first string players and should have gone anyway. No no wait...we had to take Ruan Pienaar because he had been turning out so well for the Boks in previous years. Bollocks! Meyer's entire tenure was a complete disgrace. I've said it before and I'll probably still say it a thousand times.

 It's always good to see a SAFFA side do well and it's a pleasure to see our young players shine. Faf was an obvious pick for the WC, Meyer's hands were tied as he had to fulfill the quota to pick Paige. Blobbie you have it spot-on.

Nope. He brought Du Preez out of semi-retirement and there was ample space for Kriel. You make space for the best players. I'd rather say his hands were in Jaun and Matfield's back pockets as he strolled down the beach with them in a loving embrace under a Japanese sunset.

Plum, Meyer was effected by quota enforcements and by some poor selection eg  wee matfiled - no more needs be said.

 Beeno, that's true. Quotas is bad, but there were even more bad sellections that didn't have anything to do with race. Coenie, Pienaar AND Jean and Victor as first choice starters.

 Denny. IMO Jean should have started off the bench in the pool games. Vic too. I have no problem with the fact that they were in the squad....ah well  foolish of me to still harp on about spilled milk. Lets hope the next cycle turns out better for our Boks.

 Wee Matfield would have been a lot better than Lomp based on today's evidence.
