Moz I would not be selecting a lock in a Bok side that makes great cover tackles - it’s simply not his job. If he was an 8 or openside then yes maybe or if he was a big physical guy that did his primary lock role well and still made all those tackles then yes For me personally a Bok lock first and foremost has to be big and physical so that he is able to impose himself physically with ball in hand, tackling, mauling, scrumming etc Anything else like making 15 tackles a game is secondary - a bonus. Mostert fails in his primary function and this is a fact, I’ve seen it for over a decade now and that’s not going to change Rassie knows this, it’s why he replaced Mostert with the more physical Lood and had RG played more tests then no doubt he to would be partnering Eben and bloody well should be it’s a no brainer The fact that the massively impressive RG is being overlooked by such a physically inept player pisses me off beyond boiling point. If it was a marginal call then fair enough but it’s literally night and day How the fuck can any coach pick Mostert over RG? I love Rassie but this is his one big fuck up. He saw the light with Lood he is fucking dragging his heals with RG We are wasting an amazing talent in RG for a fucking sad excuse for a Bok lock If Mostert effected a turnover it’s the only one he has ever done just like PSDT has done on occasion. As you literally never see these tall guys doing it. One turnover is not the measure of his ability effecting turnovers as we all know Mostert, Eben, PSDT, Lood and RG are not in the habit of doing so. It goes against physics

And yet Ollivon who is 6’6” does it all the time. So Dave do you think that having Dud Toit and Kolisi on the flanks, neither being able to fetch, is a handicap. Possibly that the inability to protect the ball on the ground limits our willingness to run. That expecting one loosie and a hooker to do all our ball on the ground work means we are at a disadvantaged to teams with four or five fetchers in the pack?

No it’s not a handicap because we have the likes of Marx, Kitshoff, Bongi, de Allende, v Staaden, Kwagga and Kolisi effecting turnovers You are mistaken Ollivon is not know for being a turnover king - no tall players in world rugby are seen turning balls over as they simply struggle to get into position to effect

From the RugbyPass Team of the WC Tournament :

  1. Charles Ollivon (Fra)

For a man of 6ft 7ins, Ollivon can shift through the gears, with his giant strides hoovering up the turf in front of him. Seen by many in the camp as the true leader of Les Bleus, the Toulon man has, like Courtney Lawes, turned into an effective proponent of the breakdown steal. Were it not for a Jesse Kriel ankle tap on the big blindside late on in the quarter-final, he could yet have been France’s hero.

….

And Kolisi never makes turnovers….stick with moz.

Moz I watch him all the time turnovers is not a big thing of his and Kolisi definitely effects turnovers - it’s not his thing but he does effect them

Olivon is a special player his stats for the WC RUGBY WORLD CUP 2023 KICKS FROM HAND 0 RUNS 32 PASSES 17 OFFLOADS 3 CLEAN BREAKS 2 DEFENDERS BEATEN 5 YELLOW CARDS 0 CARRIES 19 METRES MADE 186 TACKLES 47 TACKLE SUCCESS 92% HANDLING ERRORS 2 TURNOVERS 0 RED CARDS 0 /// Although he was not very successful at Turnover ball in the WC, I have seen him make some in the Top 14 and Six nations….For a player standing at 1,99 m he can effect Turn overs.
