There is always one position where I differ from  you.  That is the loosie situation.  The idea to play an extra lock at loosie is to my mind an abomination.  They are too slow and cannot really contribute to other aspects of  play.   That has been tried over and over again and has been a flop all along.   Alberts was a classical example of that flop.
I rate Kirsten as a loosie - but he is way too slow in pace and Jaqcues du Plessis is the same.  As to your other loosies Carr and Kolisi are normally sub-par.  Together they were poor this year, but then so was Burger.  Carr has as a matter was poor for two years now and Kolisi was not much better.  Matter of fact th Stormers loosies were  the main reason for the Stormers game losses. 
Lastly you have a hang-up about Arno Botha for years now.  He was good before his string of injuries - but since then he was nowhere near international standard.    You better also forget about Frans Steyn - he since his previous sojourn in France has been poor - very poor.  His defense even in recent games borders on the non-existent and his few carries all ended up in crashballing. Should not even be in the "A"  side.
        

 For any international team to compete against the top boys one needs a powerful front row, as well as it's replacement on the bench.
Including Beast and the useless Coenie in the squad is already a step back as far as I'm concerned. Especially when you have guys like Dylan Smith, Thomas Du Toit, Ruan Dreier, Julian Redelinghuys and Koch available to us. Any one of these would scrum your picks of Beast and Coenie into the ground.
I do not regard Strauss as a worthy contender for the Bok 2 jersey. Much prefer Marutlulle and Ackerman. Yes I know Strauss has a very accurate line out put in, however there is a lot more to it than that ... especially in the tightloose. Redneck's take on my comment should be interesting. 
We are blessed with the best locks in the world. I am not a fan of the slack jawed Lood but will tolerate his inclusion as long as he's just there for emmergencies.
Eben, PSDT, Willemse and Snyman are our best. Erasmus of the Lions could also possibly compete but needs a lot more game time to hone his skills.
Du Plessis, Botha, Carr, Kolisi and Mosert do not belong in the squad. Especially not as a loose forward.
This Dave is just my opinion.
I like the looks of Cyle Brink and love the tremendous work rate of Kwagga Smit who punches above his weight class. 
For now my starting backrow would be Kriel, Vermeulen and Kirsten.
I also believe that Senatla impresses at rugby 7's but doesn't come close to being as impressive at the 15 man game. He wouldn't make my side.
JP's too slow. Age is a factor. He won't make the next WC because of it.
Frans Steyn is just simply useless. I do not know what you see in him. Same goes for Jesse Kriel. He'st not comfortable in the 13 jersey. Perhaps at 15.   Goosen hasn't played at 10 for quite some time now. Why return him there after so long? Besides ... the man breaks if you look at him skew. 

Mike I disagree with you 100%, you need a big physical guy at 7, a player that is a similar size to a lock but more athletic. The notion that the likes of du Plessis and Kirtsen are too slow for a loosie is utter rubbish.
You need good pace from your 6 and 8, it is of little consequence at 7. For the record du Plessis and Kirsten have more than enough pace for 7, as do the du Preez twins.
The prime role of a 7 is to impose himself physically, to add grunt, its not to run around the park at pace.
Alberts in his prime was brilliant......you are speaking utter shit.
As for Kolisi, he has been great this season, I love this guy....always breaks the first tackle. Carr is a sublime talent, but I only see him as a 6. Has had some great moments this year but has not been on fire as he was last year. Both right up there with by best of the loosies.
Arno Botha has been great for the Bulls, he and Whiteley have been our best 8.

CC, I disagree with you 100%.......Malherbe is our best tighthead, very closely followed by Marcel v/d Merwe who has dominated all Super series.
Our best loosehead by a country mile is Kitshoff, with Nyakane next in line. Had Thomas du Toit played more rugby, he would have made my squad as I am a big fan.
I am not interested in 113kg props like Redelinghuis, Dreyer and Smith....they get their arses kicked against better props.
Beast provides experience and has been solid this year. But I'd be happy to have Thomas ahead of him though. I am a big Coenie fan, he cops some pathetic decisions at times. Perfect bench prop who is brilliant with ball in hand.
Strauss is a proven test star, but I am a huge fan of Akers......was difficult to leave him out.
Your take on Lood is mind boggling.....my guess that has to do with his baby looks......for you dont emerge in the top 5 players of the WC in terms of all round stats and get names SA player of the year being a crap player.....I dont understand your negativity towards this class player at all. We do have locks to burn.
du Plessis is a phenomenal player was huge for the Bulls and is now Montpelliers best forward. Arno Botha is class and playing good rugby for the Bulls, Kolisi is doing the same for the Stormers. Mostert is such a great player but not big enough to replace one of our locks, therefore we can only consider him at 7.
I like the look of Clyde Brink and am with you on Kwagga as an impact player.....but not for a Bok side, maybe an A side.
Not sure what you base that on re Senatla in 15's, he was the best wing I have ever seen in 15's for the Baby Boks and was good in the few games he played for the Stormers.....he needs plenty of 15's game time after the Olympics.....he could transform the Bok side.
Vermeulen was crap in the WC and has been worse for Toulon......no way can he start. Jaco Kriel is a must......would be happy with Kirsten at 7, but prefer Jacques du Plessis.

Jessie Kriel is a phenomenal talent......he is going to rip defences apart - you cant beat his pace and dancing feet, plus at 97kg is the perfect size as a centre.
He was huge at 13 alongside de Allende in the RC last year....best performance I have seen from Bok cenctres in years. Kriel had a solid WC in a Meyer game plan that excluded outside centres involvement.
We dont need Kriel at 15, we have Willie and Gelant.....we need him at 13, outside de Allende at 12 and Jantjies at 10......with Combrink and Willie bringing in their class from out wide......imagine adding the x factor of Senatla on the other wing and the helter skelter bustle of Faf at 9.
Goosen is wasted anywhere but at 10 and he has not been injured for more than a season now.....he has muscled up  

 Dave ... instead of naming all the rugby players in the country as part of your squad, rather select the required 31 as is the norm.
I'm curious who you'll include and who you'll drop.
I will do the same and perhaps we can compare the two.

It is no use to argue with Dave about selections - he develops a liking for some players and they can do nothing in their later/recent games and he would still select them  The list is long and his ideas set in concrete.   I think I will just try and give you my approach as to the squad for the Irish tests :-

Outside backs :  Le Roux, Goosen, Combrinck, Pietersen, Habana

Centers            :   De Allende, Mapoe, Venter

Flyhalfs            :   Lambie – with Goosen s back-up

Scrummies     :    De Klerk, Hougaard

Loosies            :   Vermeulen, Kriel, Labuschagne, Notshe, Whiteley

Locks                :   Etzebeth, Du Toit, De Jager

Props                :    Mtawarira, Nyakane, Malherbe, Kitshoff, Redelinghuys

I do not think the squad will be more than 26 players  for the June tests.  They may add 2 players – but it is unlikely that they would add more

The squad total is supposedly 31. That means he must shorten his list by 12.
Does he hang on to the chumps ... ??? ... of which he has a sh!t load to select from ... or ... does he prefer to hang on to them and let the better quality player go ...

I see you're also partial to some of the elderly players. A little surprised I must say.
Beast, Pietersen, Habana ... no way that they'd even make my A side, never mind my test side ...

Problem is the BEE elections - I would not have picked some players but for that reason. You would have seen that of the older players most are in that category.
