Cape Town - Eben Etzebeth is in the final stages of his rehabilitation from a calf injury, and may travel with the Stormers team to face the Sunwolves in Singapore on May 14 depending on his progress this week.

The towering Springbok lock was injured at the beginning of the month after he pulled a calf muscle at training, but he is set to return just in time for the business end of the competition as the Stormers look to get their season back on track.

There were no new injury concerns for the Stormers heading into the bye week following their 32-30 loss to the Waratahs at Newlands on Saturday.

On the long-term injury list, meanwhile, there are a number of players that have made good progress, with the likes of Wilco Louw, Jaco Taute, Jano Vermaak and Robert du Preez expected to be available for selection following the June international break.

Taute will return to training for the first time this week since picking up an ankle injury in pre-season, while scrumhalf Vermaak (neck injury) and flyhalf Du Preez (knee injury) should be back on the training pitch next month.

Lock Jean Kleyn who injured his arm is also expected to return to full fitness before the end of the Vodacom Super Rugby season.

It will be good to see Eben back terrorising wee kiwi players. With PSDT on form and Elstadt set to move to 7 (Surely this will happen) we will have a kiwi munching pack!

 I have to wonder how popular the wee abs are in nz and for that matter the other teams they have.Nz teams dont get supported that well and hence their finanical troubles? Of course I could be wrong and it could be the hefty bribes to refs, IRB etc. Hahhahahahahahahahahaha

Wellington - New Zealand Rugby (NZR) on Thursday revealed that next year's British and Irish Lions tour will be crucial to its finances, underpinning a five-year plan to break even by 2020.

NZR said it recorded a NZ$463 000 loss in 2015, despite the All Blacks becoming the first team to ever to win back-to-back Rugby World Cups.

While that was less than the NZ$955 000 deficit the organisation was expecting, NZR said the figure was set to blow out to NZ$10 million this year as it ploughs extra funds into provincial unions.

Chairperson Brent Impey said the NZR was still in a "favourable financial position" with cash reserves of NZ$59.1 million, but it needed to find ways to generate extra revenue.

"We face a revenue challenge if we hope to continue growing investment in the game," he said in a statement.

"We are forecasting losses in four of the five years, with the exception being next year with the British and Irish Lions.

"Our aim is to reach break-even over the period, but it is clear already that this will be a big challenge."

The NZR's annual report released on Thursday did not provide a breakdown of projected losses or how much next year's Lions tour is expected to bolster the bottom line.

However, it said last year that demand was set to exceed the composite team's last tour in 2005, when 20 000 travelling fans created a boisterous atmosphere and injected an estimated NZ$135 million into the economy.

No Lions squad has won a series in New Zealand since 1971. Next year's tourists face a packed 10-match schedule, including three Tests against the All Blacks.

Looks like the kiwis are going down the tubes. I suspect Cheeky Watson type finan cial managment.

I guess that wee bloke Etzabeth has finished growing his goatee & will trot onto the field for a few games just to get the fans excited all over again. Buy him season tickets to the wee stormers games, as he's sitting in the stands for most of the season it will save you some money.

 Agreed Hakwa, despite Beeno's troll I am glad Eben is back on the paddock, he probably is the most respected of the Bok players by the AB's.  I have enjoyed watching the games he has been involved in this year in Super rugby.
