Racing 92 to fire ex-All Black over cocaine bust

Paris - France's Racing 92 club will fire former All Black lock Ali Williams, who was arrested in Paris last month in possession of cocaine, the Top 14 champions said on Friday. 
"Unfortunately, Ali Williams will soon be dismissed, " the club's president, Jacky Lorenzetti, told the Midi Olympique newspaper published Friday. The club confirmed the information. 
"But that will not stop us from listening to him and giving him a hand outside of rugby. Personally, I just advised him to take some time out," Lorenzetti added. 
French police last month charged Williams with buying cocaine and Toulon's Australian international James O'Connor with possession of the drug. 
The pair were arrested outside a nightclub near the Champs Elysees in possession of 2.4 grammes of cocaine on February 25. 
Both were suspended by their clubs. 
Williams, 35, a World Cup winner with New Zealand in 2011, was also stripped of his ambassadorial role for Racing 92 last week. 
He was taken on by Racing at the end of 2015 in a public relations role for Lorenzetti's wine company and as a media adviser to star fly-half Dan Carter. 
Williams "returned a negative test for coke," said Lorenzetti, contrary to O'Connor. "I'm not saying that he's not a consumer. 
But I saw him Monday and he was devastated. His life has dramatically shifted. Ali had a boulevard, even a highway ahead of him. He could have done great things at the New Zealand federation or elsewhere." 
The two Top 14 stars will appear before a disciplinary commission of the French National Rugby League on March 29.

James is a good rugby player that has gone awry,   He should never have gone to France,   If he came to SA he would never have been caught with cocaine -  the Police is so corrupt here - they would have sold him the stuff.
Even McBride said in Parliament that Police have even been in gun battles with other Police at the main entry points when it came to drug mules.      

 Yup poor James got caught up with these most unseemly criminal elements from nz.NH clubs should be careful about hiring nz oaks as who knows what they will do!

 Pieter de Villiers tested positive for coke while he was still playing for France. Claimed his drinks were doctored....he's the Stormers forwards coach I think. This was a stupid act by the 2 players, but it doesn't suddenly make them bad people. I always liked Ali, issues and all. James was an almost likeable little sh!t. Storm in a teacup really.  They were stupid and will pay the price...nothing more to fret about.

 They are supposed to be role models blah blah blah. Though if everybody who has used charlie should have their careers ended and lives devastated then there would be many people out of work.
Personally I feel it's unfair. They should accept  the criminal liability that comes with buying/using and possibly some rehab time, but that's it. 
Musicians and actors are also role models but with way more influence over young people yet we seem to be fine with them being in and out of rehab. If one is afraid that a sports star using drugs is going to influence your kids to do it then you must not have much confidence in your parenting skills. 
Performance enhances are a different ball game since it's premeditated cheating. 
I understand that it's tricky territory for clubs and organizations to navigate but it would just be nice if things weren't blown totally out of proportion.

 Too true Cloudy ,Plum and Mr Draad .Being p!issed in some circles is still de riguer for rugby players .One spliff and your demonized .I still have tickets from Bob Marleys 1978  performance at Western Springs Auckland.Groovy crowd and Bob Marley went for 4 hours instead of the scheduled 2 and a half !
