No more Japan stints for Boks?; Planet Rugby

Contracted Springbok players will reportedly no longer be able to play their rugby in Japan at the end of the South African season.

According to Rapport, a clause in South African players' contracts states that players need to be rested in October and that Springboks with joint South African Rugby and provincial union contracts will also not be eligible to play in this year's Currie Cup.

“The clause was added so that we can ensure the team is better managed,” a source told Rapport.

“Due to the fact that the contracted Boks have to rest in October and tour Europe in November, it leaves them with no space to play in Japan, because players (according to Japanese rugby bosses) are not allowed to only report (to their clubs in Japan) in December.”

South Africa's Rugby Championship campaign concludes on October 8, following a two-week rest period before resuming training for the end-of-year tour to Europe.

That will reduce the incomes of some Bok players but it's good for the Boks.

 No, no necessarily, it means that they would rather go to Europe and stop playing locally. 

 The loss for the local franchises are too high - a lot of players gets injured pr are injured after their return from Japan and that means losing key players for extended periods.   
Most of the top players have signed contracts with SARU that reduce the chances of them leaving for foreign clubs.
