"The Eastern Province Kings will compete as an amateur team in this year’s Currie Cup.
Due to an ongoing financial crisis, EP Rugby will be unable to pay its players a match salary during the competition, a report in Rapport indicates.
The union was placed under provisional liquidation in March.
With senior players not contracted for the Currie Cup, the bulk of the squad will be made up of academy players and last year’s Under-19s and Under-21s.
The EP Kings will be coached by former Springbok prop Rob Kempson"
This is farcical - amateur rugby should not be allowed in the CC competition - since the players will not be paid - while their opponents will. What happened for instance when players are injured - they would not be covered by medical insurance.
The time to get rid of Watson and his cronies is long overdue and a proper management structure put in place. That would open up the way for sponsorship and the nightmare will be over for EP rugby.
