It seems as if the whole series are now in doubt and one wonders whether Erasmus will again be blamed for the cancellation.     It may be that the Pumas may be asked to stay in SA for w while longer and further tests b arranged against them.

Aussies could not say if ABs could play in WA with any certainty as the WA Premier said they would have to quarantine for 2 weeks.

So when we delay departure ARU all of  sudden said we could play!

Someone is speaking with forked tongue…..

NZ needs to fire that Marxist Globalist PM.

It is now clear that Australia is also firmly under Globalist control.

Both countries better wake up fast and RESIST.

This very well sums it up.

I thought this decision was always the obvious one.

Andy Marinos can whinge all he wants - They are not going to take much notice of that idiot.

A bit like the NSW Premier - Full of shit.

And you won't see the AB's in South Africa any time soon.

Nope, new Zealand has pulled out completely. Probably felt it is not worth having to quarantine for 2 weeks on either side.

Hope this can be relocated to the UK for 6 weeks.

I agree - We need to play the Boks in a safe environment and playing at a neutral stadium would be kool.

Damn shame but the right decision given the situation. There are serious discussions about keeping the game in US (I have tickets) and having the 100th test against the Boks at Twikers followed by games in Europe. A lot can and will happen in the meantime.

New Zealand knew South Africa was going to win and canceled the tournament...Jacinda spoke with Mccaw just before the announcement.
The Springboks missed this opportunity to really stamp the Kiwis into the ground.

Where did South Africa finish last year?

We all know why they were not here - They were fighting a bigger battle back home.

As we are now - END OF FUCKEN STORY.

Honestly this NZ response is just as pathetic as South Africa’s chicken run last year. I’m not aware of a single professional athlete who has even gotten seriously ill from Covid.

From Planet Rugby:

"Wallabies ‘bloody angry’ over All Blacks’ decision

Date published: August 20 2021 - News Desk

Australia head coach Dave Rennie is furious after New Zealand took the decision to stop their team from travelling to Perth next week.

The All Blacks have also cancelled their matches with South Africa, leaving the Rugby Championship in disarray.

There have been concerns all week that the Bledisloe Cup game could be called off due to the worsening Covid situation in both countries and the travel restrictions put in place as a result.

Rugby Australia were not told about New Zealand’s decision, according to a fuming Rennie, who has been left consistently disappointed by their actions over the past two seasons.

Not surprised

“Bloody angry. I just feel there’s only one of us who are interested in doing what’s best for the game,” the Wallabies’ boss told reporters. “It tells you more about them than us I’d say. I’m not surprised.

I’ve had a couple of years now where I’m on the other side of the ditch. It’s been really disappointing the way they have conducted themselves over that period.”

He added: “It’s all about them without any concept of what it’s doing over here. New Zealand’s attitude of not honouring their commitments is really disappointing.

“We made a commitment to go there this year, they made a commitment to come here. They haven’t honoured that.”

Rennie believes that Australia have been the only country that have tried to compromise over the past year and criticised New Zealand Rugby’s attitude.

“We’ve all made sacrifices to ensure that games are played for the financial benefit of everyone and for the good of the game,” he said.

“There’s only been one partner that’s been flexible and this is the reward you get.

New Zealand rugby union didn’t have the respect to consult Rugby Australia about their decision.”

The next few games could well be rescheduled and potentially played on the other side of the world, with the UK mentioned as a possible destination due to their lack of restrictions.

As it stands the 2021 Rugby Championship appears to be over but Rennie says that they will get clarification over the next few days and believes that there are ways of solving the current mess.

“We’ll sit on our hands for a few days now, uncertain whether the Test will be put back another week and played here in Perth or be played somewhere else in the world,” he added.

“We’ll get clarity on what the Rugby Championship looks like and where it’s going to be held and whether that’s Brisbane or whether that’s South Africa or whether that’s in Europe, the games are able to take place on those dates.

“So the 11th or the 12th of September is the first one; New Zealand could have come here and played the game here knowing that we’ve got a Rugby Championship game a couple of weeks after that. So hugely disappointing.”

The Rugby Championship is now dead and buried for this year.

No point in suggesting South Africa - The AB's won't be going there.

Springboks v All Blacks at Twickenham? RFU 'open to discussion'

20 Aug

Sport24 staff

The English RFU has confirmed it would be "open to discussion" for Twickenham to host Rugby Championship Tests.

This follows renewed Covid-19 restrictions in Australia and New Zealand that have threatened to derail the 2021 Rugby Championship.

The Springboks were set to face the Wallabies in two Tests in Australia, before taking on the All Blacks in Dunedin and Auckland.

But after New Zealand was placed in a national lockdown it led to speculation that four of the Springboks' remaining matches could be played in Perth.

However, New Zealand Rugby announced on Friday that the All Blacks' two Tests against South Africa would not be played in New Zealand, and that the Kiwis would not be flying to Perth this weekend for the third Bledisloe Cup Test which was scheduled to be played at Optus Stadium on 28 August.

Southern hemisphere governing body Sanzaar is working hard behind the scenes to find an alternative for the tournament to go ahead.

One of the options mooted is a move to Europe, with the Rugby Pass website reporting on Thursday that Sanzaar was considering this option. The planned host cities are London, Paris, Cardiff and Dublin, the report stated.

According to the The Telegraph, the RFU has already indicated its willingness to enter into negotiations with Sanzaar, although reiterated that an exemption would be required from the UK government in order to host games in England and Wales.

"The RFU is always open to discussion regarding the global calendar and we are aware of the challenges facing the Rugby Championship at the moment, much further consultation is required around player welfare and potential organisational and commercial impacts for all unions therefore it is too early to speculate on any developments," an RFU spokesperson said.

SA Rugby, meanwhile, also indicated on Friday that it was keen to host the remaining Rugby Championship games.

"We have advised Sanzaar that we are ready and able to host the remainder of the competition in South Africa, pending our government's approval," the governing body's CEO Jurie Roux said.

"But we are now well-versed in turning on rugby Tests within the prevailing Covid restrictions and have the venues and accommodation necessary. We just need the go-ahead. "

SA Rugby Mag

"New Zealand Rugby chief executive Mark Robinson has defended the decision by the All Blacks to cancel their matches against South Africa and not travel to Perth to face the Wallabies.

READ: SA Rugby keen to host remainder of Rugby Champs

After New Zealand unilaterally announced via a media release that they would not be contesting the Bledisloe Cup in Brisbane, and that they would not play South Africa in New Zealand, there was outcry both from SANZAAR and Rugby Australia.

Andy Marinos, Rugby Australia chief, was scathing in his assessment.

It’s incredibly disappointing to be informed of this decision via the media, despite having a conversation with the CEO moments before and there no mention that this was the intention.”

ALSO READ: Bullet the All Blacks from Rugby Championship

This comes after comments by Wallabies coach Dave Rennie in which he sad he was ‘livid’ at the decision and how poorly it had been communicated.

Robinson has, however, endeavoured to pour water on the flames by releasing a statement saying he sympathises with SANZAAR, but defends New Zealand’s decision.

“We can understand the frustration and disappointment of Rugby Australia about the fact that we were unable to travel. We have a huge amount of sympathy for the impact it has on them. As I said at the outset, we are absolutely committed to playing that game at some stage.

“Getting into a whole lot of speculation around who said what and when, doesn’t really help and doesn’t move forward. What we’re trying to do is find a solution to a situation that balances our need to look after our people, with our commitment to make this tournament go ahead.”

Robinson was emphatic that New Zealand was still committed to playing in the Rugby Championship, on their terms.

“We are waiting for the tournament schedule to come out, and where it might be played. Our first obligation is to our people at this time. In this regard we want to make sure that before that anyone steps foot on a plane where the coming weeks might sit for them in being involved in international rugby.

“We’re hoping that can be resolved. There’s obviously the possibility of that being in Queensland, and there’s obviously been speculation around the possibilities about where it might be played if it’s not in Australia.

“Once we get clarity around that we’re certainly committed to playing in the tournament.”

The suggestions are that New Zealand is looking to push the UK and Ireland as a destination to host the remainder of the competition. This despite South Africa having offered to host.
