Let me explain how the list system works. First count is number og gold medals won - if that is eaual then the enxt count is how many silver medals won - and the same with the bronze.
However, the key is the number of gold medals won - a team can win 1 gold medal and 25 silver and bronze - they will still be below the medal list against a team that has only won 2 gold medals and nothing else.
I was wrong about New Zealand though - they won a gold medal this morning and can add 1 bronze one to their total.
The problem for Australia is a lack of medals in the pool - always their strongest component. There is very little further opportunity for them to win swimming medals - where in 2000 they ruled the roost. They may win the 50 meter freestyle - but that is also a big may. I do not think that they are doing well in this Olympics - must be in moarning by now.

Le Clos said that a 100 meter race is too short for him - but we never know after the final. He has the fighting spirit of a lion and can pull it off. There are still a few other potential medal winners that could come through. I am thinking of the 50 meter breaststroke, the 4x100 medley, and even one in athletics. If we can win in rowing - the door is wide open for others as well..
