In his speech, Trump mocked the idea that the shrinking field would help out the beleaguered establishment. “They’re geniuses!” he mocked. “They don't understand that as people drop out I'm going to get a lot of those votes also.”

That’s almost certainly true. Once pigeonholed as the candidate of white grievance politics, Trump has expanded his coalition as the election goes on. The crowd at the Marriott here couldn’t be easily characterized: There were guys in blue jeans and NRA hats, and carefully made up, bejeweled middle-aged women. There were guys in carefully tailored suits and kids in cowboy hats. The only consistent thread running through the supporters was that most (though not all) were white. Exit polls show the breadth of his coalition in the Palmetto State, too. Trump won men and women, veterans and non-veterans. He won across the state, in all five regions. He even won a plurality of evangelicals, though Cruz edged him among strong conservatives.

 I understand perfectly what is happening.   I understand that their is a public disenchantment with what the so-called Republican Establishment has done over the past few years and a distrust which Trump is thriving on.
I also understand that Trumps morning and evening statements are opportunistic and that he cannot be trusted to execute what he says he would do in the remote possibility of election.   The so-called Bush Republicans are a mixed bag of financiers and opportunists interested only in themselves and is not interested in the welfare of the people.
I also understand enough of the US system to realize that Trump is stuck with a following of between 30% and 35% of the Republican voters and that there is no real momentum that is in evidence.    That is not enough to get him elected as Republican candidate for the presidency and least of all elected as President.  .         

 According to ABC Hillary beats Cruz 60/34...Rubio 62/32 and Trump 53/42.

 So Mike your 35% rule may have currency in a one on one Republican race, in a general election Trump looks like the only Republican with a shot. It's a long shot, even for Trump...against Hillary. But believe me Rubio and Cruz have no shot...nor any way of changing the equation.

For Trump his hope would be that the tide running against politicians gets stronger...or some event underscores his message. Rubio and Cruz have no such clear positioning. It's time for the establishment to stop besmirching their likely candidate.
