Pat Lambie to captain the Sharks . . .

Sharks coach Robert du Preez announced today that Patrick Lambie will be the Sharks captain in 2017.

Difference is Lush I wasn't posting the story as news, I was posting it to register my sympathy for a player I admire.

PL is a very gifted player...a good leader and a very strong character and I read in the local paper an article on him...his situation, his past setbacks and what he feels and the new Shark outfit...it sounds good and positive and Du Preez has drilled these guys into a physical fit unit.

All of us Shark fans, whether we like each other or not can stand in soli darity on this good news and look forward to a good season and behind the past...Pat we are all wishing you the best...and to confound your critics.

They kick off in Brisbane against the Reds and then on to Canberra against the Brumbies...good luck lads...it's a tough start but I think it's a good one.

Same goes for our Bulls, a really tough one against The Chiefs away...Handre Pollard the same good wishes for you...another stalward who must do the same job as Patrick...we need you both.

Well said AJ...never knew his grandad but his father was a great mentor to him...had a conversation with his uncle during WC 2011...a lovely family.

Watched him in his schooldays...the Michaelhouse/Hilton/Maritzburg college games...a habit of mine on Saturdays past...used to go troutfishing early in the mornings until 2 pm and then drop in at either, Balgowan, Hilton or Goldstones...depending on the venue on the way home from the beautiful Natal Midlands...used to be a perfect balanced day of enjoyment.

Just want to add that his grandfather played hooker for Rovers in the mid 60's and also represented England in that position.
Nick was a great man and I for one take great pride in stating that I knew him, played against him and pleased to see his grandson have the same qualities.
Nick, by the way, was a Dentist.
Yes, the Natal Midlands is a beautiful area. Pietermaritzburg was my birth city but I grew up in Durban so still was blessed to have lived there.
Memories.

AJ I can see that...the Lambie family is a standard we all will be astonished to see in a world quite opposite...that's why it's strong...it stands true and erect in a world that's fast losing it values.

I come from a good family but it's slowly deteriorating...selfishness, lack of discipline, love and morals gate- crash today against our highest beliefs, standards and honesty today.

Fun and pleasant activities (certainly far from boring) were linked to kindness, respect and humility in my grandparents and one or two remaining descendants but even their goodness is slowly slipping away to the main culprit, selfishness, love of money and pride.

None of this is happening in the Lambie family, at least to my limited knowledge of them...I can see it from their offspring.

We have a bit of it in my family...my late Uncle Brian, Auntie Jean and her daughters who are beautiful, modest and well loved and known but the rest are slowly going down. Slipping standards are going down fast, true concern, real love, manners, etiquette, consideration and respect are all foreign in this new world.

 Seb you are correct about the demise of family values and pride.
Unfortunately, many parents are to blame for not instilling these values in their offspring as they had when they were growing up.
Pity, but that is their choosing and it is leading to the destruction of families worldwide.
But that is why we grow old and move on........I guess because we have difficulty accepting the new way.

 I am getting a bit concerned about Lambie. His last concussion was not good. He is a small man in a big man's world and could get hurt. 

 Lambie's ship might be out at sea without him. I like him, but he doesn't look like the Bok's answer at 10. He'll have to do something special to get back into contention. 

 He was a better fullback, the improvisation at 10 doesn't suit him. Playing Lambie at 10 makes no more sense than playing Halfpenny at 10. They are very similar players but Halfpenny has been much more succesful becuse he stayed focused on his best position vs believing the pipe dreams.

Agreed that his recent injury is of great concern to all.
Regarding his spells at #10 and #15, I am of the opinion that the coaches who he played under actually played him out of position to accommodate Morne and fill in at #15 to cover for injured or poor performances from regular fullbacks.
As a result, he has taken a beating both physically and mentally.
