The usual naive optimism still prevails, but WCs are won by competitors.....guys who take responsibity for the results and are competitive by nature. That's why Spies was such a hopeless case in the last RWC...not a competitor. The same is true of the following players:
JJ, Serfontein, Lambie, Hougaard, Reinach, Goosen, Malherbe, Lood....Mohoje.
Others just aren't skilled enough but give you everything they have, Coetzee is a good example. Not a fetcher, power runner or tight forward alternative....Coetzee is the Duracell bunny of flankers. He will be outplayed by every major country fetcher, but at least he tries.
We have to find physicallly skilled players that are really competitors. If we don't we will bomb in the quarters or semis. And the longer we mess around with players like Lambie at 10, the less likely we will be prepared. The YE tour was a huge step back in terms of selection.
