Allot could change in the SuperXV next year-

1. Beast / Trevor Nkaya. Apparently he has some experience as a tighthead. With Beast at 1 and Nkaya at 3 could be an option.

2. Strauss/ Bismaark

3. not Coenie or Jannie/

4. Eztebeth /

5. Matfield/ PSTD

6. Louw/Schalk

7. Schalk/ Coetzee

8. Vermuelen/

9. Fourie Dupreez/ Pienaar (Both can play Northern Hemisphere conditions. (Hougaard is a no hoper unless their are injuries). He understand the teams structures and knows the systems of fumling and knocking on.

10. Pollard/ Goosen/ Lambie. Goosen has the best kicking game out of the three.

12. Serfontein/ Delande

13. Jean (?)

14. Cheslin Kolbe

11. Habana/Sanatala

15. Willie/ Lambie/ Goosen

Meyer will go for experience, he won't consider if there is an old player available, he hinted in that direction after the match, blaming inexperience

I've also wondered why Goosen has all of a sudden been removed from contention at flyhalf, he's definitely better than Lambie and is more elusive than Pollard with a bigger boot. In my mind the best SA flyhalves are between Pollard and Goosen, Lambie has become a jack of all trades master of none just like Frans Steyn.

Hanekom is looking like the biggest benefactor from the open 13 spot, he's got a fantastic opportunity to get in the Bok squad for the RC and RWC if he plays well enough in the Super 15.

Forget about next year's world cup, select 31 young players and expose them to world cup conditions

Congratulation Meyer - you've had the Boks for more than 3 years now and you still blame inexperience as a reason for their performance. What do you need 7 years like with the Bulls to get them into a competitive squad?

"To late I fear to turn the ship around at this stage."

No, we thrashed the English in 2007 in our pool match and they got together as a team, won their matches and almost won the Webb Ellis trophy against us.

Meyer is selling us down the river......more talent at our disposal than ever and the best he can come up with is the above side.

The only players that should be in his WC side are Willie, JP, Serfontein, Beast, Bismark/Strauss, Etzebeth and Vermeulen.......that's 50% of the side that he has right......shocking

Saffex for a laugh lets see what you believe the team should be.
How many of them have no SuperXV experience, probably half your team ?

I like the squad saffex,  only changes I would make are taking Du Preez too, and finding a place for Kriel in the squad too.I'd also like to see Kolbe given a chance but I have a feeling he'll never win a cap under Meyer.

Yeah I'd be more than happy with Kriel in the mix, as I would Kitshoff, Hanekom, Faf de Klerk, v/d Walt, CJ Stander, Mtembu and Labascagne.....not to mention a wild card like Esterhuizen, Kobus v/Wyk or Jessie Kriel

Saffex your team is allmost the same as the team that lost to Wales, barring injured players that are not available anyway.
Take out Matfield and Jean and the team is pretty much the same as yours.  JP and Habana were not available due to the test window being completed.
The other additions cant be in the squad due to a limited size. A squad has to be less than 30+- players.

What utter nonsense....give up. Select 30 youngsters to have a paid holiday in England. With that kind of courage the Thousand Year Reich would have been a reality.

We get into the QFs and then we have to win three games against teams we have beaten in the last year, that are just as nervous as us.

The WC has got 90% to do with belief and guts. It's not about pretty, it's about strength and aggressiveness. It's like a boxing match. The AB team in 1995 was way better than ours, they proved that in the ensuing years. But we beat them. We can beat any team in the world on the day.

We are better in tests than we are at the S15. And we are better in the RWC than we are in tests. It plays to our strengths.

Select the competitors....JP, Habana, F du Preez, Pollard.....Schalk, Vermeulen, Strauss, Etzebeth. There you have a core of 8 players who don't take a step back. Find 7 others and a reliable goal kicker and we win the RWC.

In a way I agree with you - that is about the 8 players you listed.   My only problem is with JP - he has gone backwards so far that compeitiveness is not in his case even remotely possible.   He does not compete anymore and part of the prblem is lack of pace.
There are question marks about Habana and Du Preez as well - but I can live with them.  Habana is not a shadow of the player he was last year and Du Preez was not  above avera ge in virtually all tests played after his return to international rugby - In their case we can only hope they recover even part of the form they displayed in the past.
Reptation is an ugly thing when it comes to team selection - and the real reason why no team has ever won the WC twice in succession.   The reason remains to amny reputation selectoions without regard to performance.
Jp will be playing Super 15 for at least a major aprt of the compettition - he was dismal this year in that series - so he will ahve a chance to redeem himself.   I have my doubts though - the lack of ace impediment is unlikely to allow for improvement in performance.

When Fourie Dupreez plays the Boks take the right options. He may not allways stand out but the tactics of the game are sound. He is one of the generals, and he is surely missed when Hougaard is playing the fool.

I am not sure whether tactics are the only thing that count - execution of functions are of equal importance.   The latter is where Du Preez has a problem - his lack of pace is really effecting execution.  He is not by any imagination even 30 % o the player he was in 2007.
The other things that bothers me with him is the loss of pace and even doubtful fitness deficincies he displays in games.   Good one weekend and quetionable the next weekend.  We know that clubs in Japan plays only games twice a month - normally every 14 days - and the players returnng  from there is not in peak fitness. So a reasonable question is?   Can  Fourie du Preez play three or more weekends in a row  without a drastic drop in performance?.
I have a nagging susupicion that he may also opt out of the WC - since he had very little game time this year - was badly injured in June and his club may put pressure on him to play for them and not for the Springboks - especialluy in view of potential further injuries which could impact negatively on his club schedule.   This is a serious possibility if he is not at peak fitness and play in test rugby

Wow Shark so my side had Mvovo,  Hendricks, Jean, Matfield and Oupa in it did it....not to mention Serfontein out of position at 13?
That's a third of the side that is wrong. ..so no its not almost my side. Would I start Lambie ahead of Pollard  - no I would not.
So that side was practically 50% wrong.

 @mozart,

"The AB team in 1995 was way better than ours, they proved that in the ensuing years. But we beat them. We can beat any team in the world on the day."

It's beyond any doubt that that AB team was way better than the bok team and that you just won because more than half of the team was food poisoned, some players were throwing up during the match and even then you need an extra time to win. If this was provoked intentionally by any SA authority or if it was accidental is another question but the fact was that the team was poisoned.
If you trust in these kind of things to happen for winning a WC means that something is going wrong with your team, something has been made wrong and this is IMO the preparation for the WC. Meyer has made some big mistakes, the main one, sticking with the geriatrics and the problems are showing now.
The boks have problems all over the squad, they have problems at the front row (Jeannie), at the second row (Matfield), at the backrow (Mohoje, Burger), you don't have any reliable scrumhalf, or anything sure about who's gonna be the flyhalf, problems at center with JdV out now for at least 8 months but probably being better for the squad that he stays longer out of the field because if not, he will be playing the WC having not played any minute of rugby during the season and hence out of form for sure, and you have problems in the outside back with le Roux having shockers every 2 or 3 games, being now Habana a shadow of what he was and no other established wing.
For sure anything could happen in a RWC and the boks could win it but even Namibia could win it, they have close to zero probabilities but they could win.
And I don't think that the way the boks are approaching the WC is the best one

Abasqye fan is fro m some small country that is deportation from Spain or France. (Basque country). I dont think they even have a rugby team. It is good to know he is privy to how South Africa won in 1995 and how the Boks were dependent on this. No mention of 2007 when the Boks again won, but away from home.

I will have absolutely no problem with FdP being selected as our leading scrummie, provided he comes to SA, joins the Bulls and play S15 for them. I (and I believe many others made a HUGH mistake to welcome the selection of a player purely based on reputation) don't want another Juan Smith scenario.

I am not sure that  Du Preez is on the required fitness elvel he should be.   From what I have seen in games - he is not and I think being not so - add to injuries in games.   He has one above average game - followied by a questionable game - it happened repeatedly in the RC last year and in all subsequent games played by him.
THis year he played about 12  games in total - for the rest he was injured.   He is likely have from January to April next year a further 8 games and then 4 games in the RC next year.    Is that enough to ensure that he will be at prime fitness in the WC.  I do not think so.
