Proteas manage to lose to Sri Lanka in the T20

Sri Lanka is really struggling, but they were good enough to beat a sort of B team Proteas outfit. As per usual Miller and Parnel contributed to the opposition. The attack in general was poor except for Tahir, by far our best spinner in every form of the game. It was also great to see AB back and he played a flawless innings. There is something appealing about a classical batsmen scoring fast with absolutely correct strokes. Still the image of the Proteas in a panic in a short form match is so deeply burned in one's memory, this all seemed familiar. In spite of our recent successes one wonders if we will do any better at the next ODI WC.

 3 Dropped catches...one has to wonder about the new young talent or is it the new young talentless.

 I though RR Hendricks looked like a classy bat, but in looking him up he is 27 already.

 Yep, it's scary, there's nothing coming through of substance and with an ageing Amla, Faf and AB as well as Steyn, Morkel and Philander there'll be a huge hole to fill.Where is the next AB, Amla  or Steyn?

 I guess there is Quinton, who is a genuine talent and Kagiso Rabada. I'm a little puzzled by the success of the latter, he looks ordinary sometimes....goes through low energy phases, and then suddenly produces a really great ball. How does he sustain the enthusiasm over a career like Steyn, when he already seems a little bored at times. No question he has the physical talent. But to your point we should have half a dozen of these emerging players.

 I'm a little puzzled as well, there's just a little nagging few questions hanging around about him but perhaps we should take it on face value alone, afterall he is taking wickets. Michael Holding thinks he's great so who are we to question.But as far as Ngidi goes, not convinced, the Tamil Tigers are a poor yardstick to begin with....typical sub continent batsmen cannot handle pace and bounce.

 As disappointing as the result maybe these young/new players have to have exposure to top cricket.
To me, it was correct to field this side purely for the exposure.After all, the SL team have been clobbered throughout this tour and in my view, this was the correct time to make the move and field the inexperienced players.
What difference would a clean sweep have made to SA cricket?
Against England or Australia, I agree it counts but against SL no.

 Fair comment Sri Lanka isn't great opposition and it was a good chance to try new players. But the fact that we lost will marginally impact our T20 ratings. I'm not sure if that ultiimately effects seeding for WC tournaments.

 Have to agree with blooding new players, it was the ideal time to experiment but what did it prove? How many of the young talent is good enough to replace our ageing players and be the next generation of stars? Potentially, Ngidi and perhaps Heido Khun.
