I somehow suspected this...and Duminy has the audacity to say he's unconcerned...well talk about ostriches with their heads in the ground...sadly although there are some positives in SA cricket there still are issues that haven't been ironed out yet...I'm really looking forward to this Cricket World Cup but I'm not optimistic.

The NZ bowling attack is awesome, Boult is one of the best...just like their attacking strategy in rugby, not so Dr Win and Beeno

I was following the game on cricinfo for a while and then fell asleep.   I think they used the game to try out some things and it did not work.   Amla never batted, neither did Steyn bowl.
They were more interested in bowling late in the innings and in seeing how players bat in different positions.   Would not call what happened as of serious affect on the WC.
If you see who bowled and who batted where - you would appreciate what I mean.   The WC starts on Saturday and we will see then whether the players have the necessary fighting spirit.  They were just coasting along this morning.
Incidentally Morne Morkel said earlier this week they are not going to give their trade secrets away before the WC- so I think what happened this morning was part of that.

A de Kock/Rossouw/Miller wipe out. There is a fair chance this will be the pattern in the big games as the pressure becomes too great for the young pop guns....no longer clouting poor bowling on friendly parks.

Oh boy so de Kock makes 66 against Sri Lanka and we have an issue.
Give it up with your negativity regarding the players Moz. Who would you play ahead of these 3?
NZ are hardly world beaters.

No NZ  aren't world beaters which is the concern. Look I hope these young chaps come through. But until they perform under CWC pressure we won't know. Tell you what though Dave, show a bit of balance and stop salivating over every young player, and I'll stop pointing out all their many flops.

It was more than a "A de Kock/Rossouw/Miller wipe out".  What about AB, Faf etc?   You have your knife in for the wrong players.   But then you did not read or believe what Morkel and Duminy said about the game and go on your own crusade again.
Remember the WC starts on Saturday - and the game today was nothing more than a light exercise.   New Zealand played their full first class team and they used only their top bowlers.  We used 8 bowlers and that did not include Steyn and your erstwhile hero Behardien - who did not bat either.
Before you go on a crusade and make derogatory remarks - please wait and see what happened in that competition.

Does it make you feel better because they flopped against NZs first string bowlers? I have big concerns about the 3 pop guns and about Faf who has been looking a little fragile, despite one or two big innings. I also have big concerns about Abbot and about Duminy as a fifth bowler.
No need to try and decide things now....we will soon know if I'm right.

Nope it's a fact of life players get old and can no longer perform as they once did. Rugby is a young mans game. We have better young rugby talent than ever and depth to burn.
It takes a very poor coach to ignore this fact and stick with those old boys who are done. Stand up Meyer.
As for cricket it was a warm up game no pressure at all. And if we are to win the WC it will be on the reliance of our stars in Amla AB JP Philander Morkel and Steyn.

If their is one thing wrong with Mozart - it is his constant hankering back to the past and non-recognition of present day developments in sport.  For him tke players of 2007 remains the greats in Rugby and even if they are a shadow of what they used to be - no younger players can ever compete with those greats.
What irritates me to an extent is that these once-great players are always recommended by Mozart for inclusion in present teams = without regard to any performance requirements.   It never enters his mind that the "iron men" of the past is not necessarily  the "iron men" of the present.
If they were - no world records in any sport will ever be broken and they are in fact regularly broken.   For instance in the Short Course World Swimming championship in December there were out of 45 events -
*   23 new world records set; and*   18 new championship records set.
So the present swimmers are the "iron men" - not the past greats including Phelps, Lochte and other greats.
The same applies to all sporting codes and obviously also rugby and cricket.  Records set by greats of the past will not necessarily remain forever - and great sportsmen will continuously arise at present and in future.  That is a fact of life which some people like Mozart just find it impossible to accept. - hence his constant harkening back to the past.

Oh Dr Freud, Dr Freud, how I wish you were otherwise employed. I have no problem with the natural turnover of players as they age. But when the guys who are supposedly going to win the RWC for us are Stepfontein, Goosen, Lomp, Reinach and Coetzee we better look for alternatives. These aren't the mature men who are going to look the All Blacks in the eye and out compete them. Hell in NZ, on their goal line with a winning try beckoning, Lomp gets bundled into touch by Barrett. A tooth pick flyhalf!  Get real!

With respect - two minutes before that Matfield fumbled a ball in a lineout 5 meters out and  he gets off totally - De Jager gets a ball (which the coach himself sid should not have been passed to him - but sould have gone in field) and he gets the blame for the problem.
That is where you have an age problem with sportsmen - you have favourites of the past that can do no wrong and whose deficiencies are overlooked - while you find excuses to denigrate younger players.
Problem is substandard older player have less of a chance to win the WC (yjry fluffed the 2011 WC already)  - than the players you mentioned above.   That is where Meyer last year got unstuck - too many substandard players like Matfield remains in the team based on reputation.

Puleeze. The guy was running an angled line to the flag and his mind never worked fast enough to angle inwards as he was tackled....he just kept going, over the touchline. That said having the robot Hougaard trying to orchestrate things was another huge issue.

Etzebeth, Willie, Strauss, Vemeulen  and Pollard are exciting new finds in our team since the last WC. There should be 4 more players like that in our team by now.....but there aren't. No use pretending Coetzee, Hendricks, Goosen, Stepfonten, Reinach and Lomp are world beaters. They aren't. Not one of those guys would be playing for the All Blacks. And if we pick players they wouldn't touch....we don't stand much chance.

What you mopes don't get is naming a bunch of young players is not difficult. Making the call as to who will succeed and who will disappear is the coaching game.

Moz if you don't think Goosen is better than never been Morne, that Serfontein is not better than past it Jean and Fourie, that Lood is not far better than 38 year old Matfield or slightly younger Bakkies or that Coetzee is not better than old man Schalk then I can see why you find favour is clueless Meyer.

Its common knowledge that Meyer finds favour in all the washed up hasbeens........and maybe you should consider the fact that with his poor selections and since bringing back these old farts, his record is getting worse.......if you are happy with us winning 5 out of 9 tests against major opposition then Meyer and your old boys is the way forward for you.

But why not bump Meyer's stats up a little and add victories against the second tier countries like Italy, Scotland and Argentina

Well this was a cricket posting and should have been demoted underneath according to some offended posters but ironically one never knows here...this is now a rugby topic on old age players...lolz

PS I think the problem here is that a lot of posters here are also getting a bit thin on the top

Some love old players...something to cheer them up

We every so often drop a match against NZ, rather now than when it counts.  No problem with the 3 Moz worry about. This WC will be all about Amla, AB and JP...and Steyn, Morkel and Tahir. The rest will chip in here and there. Faf, Miller, de Kock and Fielies to be a bit more prominent than the rest
