Argentina has been boosted by the inclusion of first five-eighth Juan Martin Hernandez, a player who in 2007 was rated as arguably the best number ten on the planet - before injury robbed him of his chance to pressure Dan Carter for the mantle as the finest playmaker in the game.
Hernandez made his first start for the Pumas in three years when featuring in The Investec Rugby Championship new boy's 27-6 loss to the Springboks in South Africa, before being ruled out of the return clash in Mendoza.
Argentina drew 16-16 with South Africa in that match, their best ever result from a test side from the Republic.
Openside flanker Juan Manuel Leguizamon is the only other change to the side.
The run on XV boasts 408 caps.
Leguizamon's return is crucial against an inform All Blacks back row, with the 29-year-old playing a significant role in the defensive effort that allowed the Pumas to rattle the World Champion's elect during the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals last year.
Twelve players will line up from that match, with three new players, while Santiago Fernandez is the sole positional switch, moving from 10 to 12 to replace Felipe Contepomi - who lined up at second five-eighth against the All Blacks during the quadrennial tournament.
Argentina have drawn once and lost 13 test matches to the All Blacks, this does not include the four non-capped internationals played in 1976 and 1979, which New Zealand won.
Team: 15-Martin Rodriguez, 14-Gonzalo Camacho, 13-Marcelo Bosch, 12-Santiago Fernandez, 11-Horacio Agulla, 10-Juan Martin Hernandez, 9-Nicolas Vergallo, 8-Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe (captain), 7-Juan Manuel Leguizamon, 6-Julio Farias Cabello, 5-Patricio Albacete, 4-Manuel Carizza, 3-Juan Figallo, 2-Eusebio, 1-Rodrigo Roncero
* Reserves bench will be named on Thursday afternoon.
pumas named for All Blacks,,,
getting very excited with this game, for me a win is obviously the bare minimum, but given the All Blacks status, im personally also expecting a 4 try bonus point and to concede no tries.
i would love for the All Blacks to keep the pumas to zero, would go very nicely with that wallaby and irish zero scalp haning over the NZRUs fire place, lol.
pumas forwards looked good against the Boks, but the Boks havent hit their straps yet, so its a little hard to gauge them properly, but a draw with the Boks is no small feat no matter the circumstances, so as long as the All Blacks continue to treat all opponents like a threat, we will be all good.
All Blacks by 38pts.
GO ALL BLACKS!!!
saSUE the real point of interest is the forward battle. Argentinian beef against nz lard!
You will win it throught the backs I would think. But Argies defence wasnt too shabby so lets see.
It's a tall ask of the Argies to go and beat the blacks in sheep country. The forward battle as you said Beeno will be interesting to watch as the Argie Pack is really good, especially now with both Leguizamon and Lobbe in, the Loosies will be a contest. But The blacks have it handsdown in the backs department. I would however like to see Hernandez get back the form he had in 2007/2008 damn he was good, if he gets there (highly unlikely) we might see a good contest.
@beeno1,
LMAO, oh beeno, im never short on smiles with any of ur posts, NZ lard, :D i would love to hear what u think of strauss, cos if he wasnt a rugby player, he could be a professional pie eater, :P
nah, big respect for strauss, my favourite hooker during the 2012spXV, :)
@beeno1, ek,
i agree that the All Blacks backline has got it all over the pumas, but i also think weve got their number in the forwards as well.
the pumas tight 5 are the only ones who hold their own against the All Blacks tight 5, but even with the inclusion of leguizamno to bolster the pumas loose forward trio, i still rate the All Blacks combo a lot better, McCaw, read with either messam, vit or sam cane are formidable and have more tricks and rugby nous to shock and awe the pumas loose forwards, but i do expect them to be physical, until the All Blacks run them into submission.
realistically Sasuke i never intended to sound as if i rate the ARGIE Forwards higher than the NZ forwards. I did however intend to say that I don't think there is that much to choose between the two packs. Respect to the Argintinian Forward pack man, they are really Good.
ek agree they are good especially better at home - made to look even better by a lethargic effiort in mendoza by our boys who did show up but got out punched out muscled and out passioned - doubt the AB's will be that unprepared and unprofessional.
I dont see the Argies getting within 20 points of the AB's and if its a dry night you might see 4 try bonus however a wet windy night will even it up
saSUE please dont , in the Strauss instance you metioned, confuse well developed muscle with nz type lard.
I am hoping the Argies dont go into their shell bulle style when playing away from home as their record tends to suggest. If they get stuck in they should be able to give the nz boys plenty to think about in the forwards and soften them us nicely. Lets hope the Argies props get stuck in and work that tub of lard woodward who is due, with mealamu, mcCaw etc , for retirement. Dont do it too much as we would like them to contine as long as possible - be strategic about this sort of thing.
Nonu and conrad are way over rated as is the fairly ordinary Carol Jane (much love dby some here) - put them down hard Argies. Nonu tries to be a bully boy but is a fading star take no lip from Nonu. Watch out for their forward pass which they use liberally t ocreat "tries". Also watch out for mcCheat who loves to obstruct in the backline and gets up to all sorts of illegal stuff.
I do trust you Argies will realise this is a great opportuntity to expose ab frailties. Be in their faces for 80 minutes and watch them tire out in th second half as they did in both games against Oz. Oz must be kicking thmesleves they didnt win one test against the abs.
Who knows Argies, give it your all and you might cause an upset! You have to believe. You have them worried already Argies so go for it!
