man, what do you want? to cause mike (and Beeno, and probably others) a heart attack or what?

you should have introduced the issue little by little,........ some soft sentences showing signs of what the answer could be,......... something like "this is not what the saffa fans would expect",........ or "this could shock some people in this site always clamming that the saffa forwards are the bests, the strongests, etc. while the kiwi props and locks are useless" ,........ or similar sentenc es

but no,.... you go straight to the answer and stats,...... are you aware of the harm you can cause???????

ABF, I am confident in the emotional maturity of Beeno & other posters on this siteThey will come with well reasoned logical arguments I am sure.
Just to help out a little:
"The kbbs of course don't consider that the wee kiwis are mainly playing themselves so of course the ballet dancing forwards look good. If they played mainly SA teams they would see the harsh reality".

Of course this text will be littered with typos

My guess is that those stats are inaccurate.....for there is no way the Bulls, Stormers and Sharks can be outside the top 10 in terms of scrums....that's utter rubbish.
The notion that any forward pack is dominating carries no weight for it changes week after week......for the most parity is achieved other than the odd side being dominated in the scrums

JW they have backwards dominance  ,if the wee ickle Japaneses can roller skate the Bok scrum backwards over the try line then its more than possible!Even saffex would no doubt agree if the Mighty Matfield was plying his trade for the Kings lets say, the knock on effect of his mere presence in the comp would lift all saffa teams to line-out dominance at the least !

The SA Teams and the Brumbies -->when all else fails revert to Rolling Maul -->rolling mauls should be banned.

@dr win,

would u mind quoting the source of those stats pls buddy,
im a little dubious about those scrummaging stats, i have zero idea how the chiefs can be anywhere in the top 10. i cant recall a chiefs scrum where they either didnt

but i still consider SA to have the forward pack dominance despite their absence in the top 10, the stats need to be taken into context.

the conference set up means SA teams face other SA teams more often than NZ and OZ, that means much tighter contests up front against teams whose only strengths are up front.

i would like to see stats of NZ and OZ teams vs the SA teams, for that would tell the real story for the question title of this thread.

in saying that, hurricanes scrum has come a long long way, the most improved scrum in the comp IMO. more than holding its own vs the SA teams and sometimes even dishing them cans of whoop a55.

@hakwaa san,

long time no see homie,

and ur half right, that is the default plan of all SA teams and the brumbies, but NZ teams are no longer novices in the dark arts of the rolling maul.
NZ teams might not have rolling maul black belts, but we do know how to execute it which means another arrow in our quiver full of hawkeye awesomeness.

 Hi Hakwa, welcome back.

Naru-San & Saffex, the source of the stats is the NZ Herald database:
Link to NZ Herald database

Naru-San, on the scrumming stats, Chiefs opt for the golden oldies these days so the scrum percentage may have been effected.

What a bunch of hapless weasels these kbbs are. SA teams are fielding sides very much weakened by mass exodus of players overseas.
The stats as Saffex say in any case make no sense at all.
More empty headed kbbs propaganda to make them feel better about being so, soooooo pap. Hahahahahahahahaha. Away with the bent down under kbbs and ozzies.  What a bunch of blowhards! An inauspicious start by the wayward hacked waaaaagh! One more to educate!

Beeno, we look forward to a mature well reasoned argument on the matter of if it is the kiwi forwards or the SA forwards that are pap. So far we have heard nothing but bleating

the stats are right,........ they are taken (the NZ herald took them) from the SANZAR official site:

http://www.sanzarrugby.com/superrugby/competition-stats/2016-team-ranking/

stats are what they are,........ don't tell the whole story but what they say is undeniable

and those stats tell that the saffa set pieces (scrums specially) are being poor this season,....... when the first saffa team securing their own scrums are the Kings and they are the 10th, something is wrong,...... when the Bulls and the Stormers cannot secure but the 82% and the Cheetahs the 70% of their scrums something is wrong coz they are not able to provide the balls they should

"SA teams are fielding sides very much weakened by mass exodus of players overseas."

excuses, excuses and more excuses,..... as always,....... apart from Kitshoff (and possibly B ismark), what tight-5 overseas player would have made any difference?

Not much of a rebuttal so far, let me contribute:

SA teams have been weakened by having their players distributed over more team.
I hope this one is true because this will mean the Boks will be better than the SA super rugby results would indicate.

The Chiefs have a very quick strike...less emphasis on dominating....more emphasis on a quick strike that gets the ball to the 8th man's feet. It is old school but seems to work.

Good point Mozart, they have had a weakened pack this season so the quick strike has served them well. Some might say they also rely on the golden oldies scrum but these are completely unfounded accusations.

Naru-san,
"i would like to see stats of NZ and OZ teams vs the SA teams, for that would tell the real story for the question title of this thread."
There are not many examples to draw on Lions v stormers and Lions vs Chiefs is one such case but as there are not many games where the comparison is possible the results would not be very meaningful.

Let's see how pap the Boks pack is against the Blacks this year. You lot always had the edge with the back row, but the T5 is a different story.

DB, yes but we will have to wait & see. The comparison was just for S18.
On Boks v ABs, I am sure Naru-san will have the stats comparing the AB pack vs Boks during RWC. But you can't really isolate the tight fives to compare them. Scrums won and lost is one indicator but it includes all eight forwards of course. In terms of forward dominance we would also have to include lineouts, etc.

JW, the Blacks have an impressive record against all teams and had our number since 92 (bar 99 and 09), but most of the time it's rather close....and it's not really a level playing field. Yes, we are the ones responsible for tipping the odds even more in your favour and I'm not nearly trying to imply we will or would have beaten you without our "transformation " issues, but the gap would have been smaller without.

DB, we just have to hope that the Boks remain in the hunt for the top spots in the international rugby ranking anything short of that would be a disappointment to us all.
The only thing positive I can think about SA having so many super rugby teams is it does give more players a shot at that level of play so maybe it will result in more talent emerging in SA so the transformation issue becomes less of an issue.

Having more teams doesn't actually weaken our rugby as a whole. It gives more opportunities like you said. None of our top teams have lost top players to the Kings. In fact, I think the Kings, like the Cheetahs will lose their best to the other 4. With proper management,  the Kings should even overtake the Cheetahs.  Easier to get youngsters to move to PE than to Bloem....I'm already running Blikkies!
