Hi Cloudy Mr Draad .I reckon Plums question was a stalking horse to hide his real intention which was to have a sly dig at us because as I have noticed in the past when ever we praise our team or country or whatever it seems to get up his nose .

You said human nature is intriguing. An example you gave was how people behave on the internet, when there are no consequences.
Humans are social beings that live in communities. Social societies come with consequences. It's the brick and mortar of social communities. It's why we punish thieves, murders, rapists etc and charge communities tax to build prisons that hold those people.
Circumvention of consequence is an S tier driving factor of evolution. If I'm faster, stronger, cleverer then I'll avoid many of the consequences weaker specimens won't. Even in solitary animals, from hunters to predators and scavengers, avoiding consequences while trying to attain a goal(food, procreation, territory) is paramount.
Hence when placing humans into a relatively consequence free environment it is obvious, NOT INTRIGUING, that they'd become keyboard heros.

The weird kid is the one who sits still in the corner while his friends take full advantage of the consequences free environment they find themselves in.
That is not to say humans are not an interesting or intriguing topic. Of course we are. Just that what you mentioned is probably the opposite of intrigue.
If we behaved exactly the same, in both instances where consequences were and weren't present then that would be truly intriguing since it would suggest that we've built a mutualistic society without using the threat of consequences to do so.

Did some reading last night. Found a few interesting bits.
An English woman who was schooled in NZ said the first big difference she noted between UK schools and NZ schools was that kids in NZ sang the National anthem before each assembly. Also that during class, especially in junior school they sang a lot of songs about NZ.
I know that when I was at school we'd recite the Lord's prayer at hyper speed before assemblies, and the school warcry before sports games. Only on rare occasions did the school band play our National Anthem.
Quite funny actually...our cadet band would practice on Thursdays one the same where the rest of us practiced cadets/marching. One of their best tunes was a Crowded House track...Everywhere You Go. The other was the Star Wars theme.
And they expected us to become normal adults

I'm doing some more reading and then I'll respond. The War has come up a couple of times now. Your mention of population numbers is interesting. For a small community to lose say, 5% of its population, is probably much more devastating and influential going forward than for a massive community to lose the same percentage.

I am in my 50s and we never sang the national anthem at school ever that I can remember unless this is something they do now days but I find that hard to believe in this PC pansy arse world of wooses as anything to do with national pride is bound to be seen as racist against anyone from another country

My kids here in Oz have had to sing the national anthem before assembly .but like most kids they just mumble it or makee up their own version .
Mr Plum those Afrika Korps soldiers were tough but fair men ,away from the nazi hierarchy they dropped the vile nazi shit and just fought like proper men .My Grandfather had the utmost respect for them and the Italian soldiers too and yup those nazi wannabes are scum ,the Afrika Korp vets wouldnt spit on the bastards [ a mate of mine told me about his Dad getting caught skinny dipping by a Stuka near Tobruk .Too far from clothes or weapons to even make a run for it they just stood their making rude gestures no doubt when the Stuka slowed down ,the canopy slid back and a black gauntleted hand was thrust out to give them a cheery wave !]
I remember at the movies when I was little "God save the Queen " would play with a movie of said Queen reviewing the troops and we would all have to stand.
