At 20 years old that's pretty amazing. There is a difference between a pretender and real talent. In spite of the usual tired excuses forgiving young players because of their age...the super stars burst on the scene. I remember watching Barry Richards and Grahame Pollock at about the same age....there was no need to mature.....they were instantly comfortable.

Also, the boy has a good yorker. Actually a brilliant one.
I think the test will come now. Becsuse every man and his dog are gonna try to "get the best out of him" and that will mean an unending amount of unsolicited advice.
With Radaba, Viljoen and Marchant we my have a real deadly trio again. Bit like the Matthews, De Villiers, Mc Millian and Donald era. Exciting.

Hardus Viljoen and Marchant De Lange. Both can regularly clock 150. Would be nice if all three got into the team, were fit and could play for a good seven years. Only problem, none of them can bat for shyte :/

We saw these guys bowl at close to 150 and get carved up. They are journeymen, who happen to be strong, not test quality bowlers.

Viljoen is already in his mid 20's and other than his 1sr class performances in the Bull Ring, his first class career is mediocre...and he totally stuffed up when he got his chance at The Wanderers. De Lange looked promising at test level as a youngster, but fell out of contention...injury problems? I liked Morris as an all-rounder, but he's no spring chicken either. He batted well but his bowling was below par....not as much as Hardus', but not good enough. I'll give him another go, just because he batted well. Hardus Viljoen? Needs to up his FC game significantly before I'll think of picking him again.

Our bowling stocks are decent at the moment. Let us not forget that Steyn, Philly and Morkel still have a good few years ahead of them.
Steyn has had a fair share of injuries of late, but he will be back.
So we have: ... in no particular order
Some backups too.... even if things get really bad with injuries.
New black kid that plays for the warriors (cant remember his name at all now)
Spinners too
Im watching the U19's with intrest.
A few years ago i had an eye on de Kock.
Aiden Markram too. I hope he fulfills his potential. Looks like a great prospect
This year I'm keeping a keen eye on our captain de Zorzi. He's scored billions of runs at junior level and looks like he has a good temperament.
Has annyone seen Colin Ackerman bat? he isnt a kid anymore. But I'm waiting for him to explode with runs. he just looks so solid. Good prospect for 3 or 4.

Flash, Viljoen is a pipe dream, but I think you are spot on with your list, but I would put Rabada ahead of Philander until he can prove that he is back to full fitness. I Think Fat Kleinveldt's ship has sailed.

I'm not saying that that they will do well only because the hit 150. Just that they are all very quick, quite young and have a lot of potential. Those three, bowling well, very difficult prospect in my book.
One can hardly say Viljoen blew his chance when he was chucked into a must win test, with a new skipper and way more internal issues in the team than there has been in a while. I reckon, when a guy gets his chance, he needs to walk into a dressing room that inspires him with confidence. We can probably all agree that this was not the case in that test he played.
Marchant is still young. I think he will oust Morkel soon. He had ankle problems or something. I remember reading that he broke both his ankles or something like that.
One mistake I think we do make, is to force a spinner into the team. SA have done well with pure seam attacks over the years, but now we seem to wanna include a spinner just so that we have one. I think, just like a quota pick, we pick spinners becsuse of their labels and not because they really deserve to be there. Especially these spinners who can't bat. Piedt hardly turns the ball. I'd happily let Elgar do the spin bowling since he is just as likely so succeed as Piedt. Plus, his turn away from right handers is much more tricky than Piedt's bog standard off spin. So, yeah, I'd take a seaming all rounder ahead of Piedt.

I'd say that's decent. What's Morkel's FC average? I just looked it up...27.5
So if we are gonna go on FC performances then Viljoen deserves his sport ahead of Morkel.

FlashD...are there any good young openers with prospects? Proteas also need a decent allrounder perhaps stick with Morris and give him a trial run. Piedt has improved since his return from India and Harmer is another good prospect. Not sure how long Steyn and Philander will last as they've reached a time where the niggles take control.

Plum, his home ground stats skews the picture quite extensively...yes, its part of the stats and should be taken into consideration...everyone does better at home, but when the gap is this big, it points to something bigger.

Flash.....saw that de Zorsi bat.....he looks as average as they come
The only positives in that current SA under 19 side are Smith as an opener and Sempala as the young speedster
The lad that batted 3 and opened the bowling is a handy allrounder but certainly should not be batting at 3......should be down at 7
The other opening bowler looked handy and could bat a bit. Indian lad
The major issue with the side is that they have no bats apart from Smith
The rest were utter shit

Viljoen in that test looked bog ordinary......bashed it in hard and hoped for the best......no great pace and no skill involved.
de Lange has been too injury prone, could never get going without pulling up short
Don't rate any of our spinners they are all crap
Morris is NOT test standard as an allrounder - not even close
I like the look of Rabada's U19 teammate who plays for the Dolphins and in the A side against England a few days ago.
He has yet to get his stats going but looks a handy bowler and left handed bat.....one for the future......forget the pretenders like Morris and McLaren......both shit to average.
17 year old Sempala......really impressed me......tall black kid with a beautiful action and some good pace.
He and Rabada will open for SA for years to come

Poor Sempala, already he is doomed by a Dave prediction of greatness! Still Dave hasn't yet concluded that Sempala and Rabada will be the greatest opening pair since Adcock and Griffin, just that they will be our opener's for years to come ....so perhaps there's hope.
