This from SA Rugby Allister Coetzee will continue to coach the Springboks, with his position to be reviewed after the three-Test home series against France in June. A highly-placed source told Times Media rugby writer Craig Ray that Coetzee will be sacked if the Boks lose that series. SA Rugby had wanted to hire Munster director of rugby Rassie Erasmus while it could still trigger his ‘get out’ clause‚ but sports minister Fikile Mbalula urged SA Rugby to retain Coetzee.

"Mbalula urged SA Rugby to retain Coetzee." Coetzee can thank his lucky stars he is not white.
It looks like Rassie has been sold down the river. (Was he actually interested- and if so would he take over later in the year). His current employer must be delighted

SARU are making him look like Jake white. Any sniff of a good job opening, and he is available to start on Monday

"Alistair"?
Who is this rugby noob who is so out of touch that he still doesn't realize the national coach's first name is "Allister"?
Oh that's right . . . it's the pedantic old bore who always corrects everyone else's spelling . . . the same old fool who gets "phased" and grits his "teath" when anyone else misspells a word!
LMAO!

Agreed, the players share the 2016 blame but the teams never looked prepared. Now Coetzee has very little 'right to lead'. Do any of the players have confidence in him....I doubt it.

The Minister wants him to stay and I bet his looting wife agrees with him.
That is the key point - it is not a question of merit performance at all.   This is why SA is in the doldrums - the country is run by self-enriching  crooks and they use racialism as a means to get votes.
The fun will start when Zupta replaces Gordahn with his ex-wife as Minister of Finance.   The thieves will then loot National treasury as well.

The looting was achieved under the previous regime. The change in government happened when it appeared there would be less and less to loot. Same strategy used by traders when they want to leave a position.

No matter the will, looters loot less and less in SA as the majority in loot was already performed.

Unsurprisingly, another decision to keep rugby going in SA. Sacking Coetze would expose SA rugby at a bad timing.

As mentioned already, FR and SA  rugby share  alot in common and they are on a collision course.
Both desesperately need opportunities to show they are picking up, to keep the dream going.

FR's case: they go through the 6Ns.

The 6Ns is set to stage the crowning of EN as the contender to NZ.
The best sporting event the 6N could yield is  EN winning the grand slam against Ireland in a determiner game on the 6N last day.
The pressure on WR to deliver this big sporting event that fans desire the most is going to be heavy. Everything possible is going to be done to achieve the result.

This would give EN:1, IR:2, FR: 3
So not an opportunity given to FR to show improvements.

The next date in the schedule is the test series against SA.

Problem: both SA and FR are in demand for opportunities to show they are improving. Only one can be served. FR is a big client to WR while SA is bound to be a declining client.

Solution: maintaining Coetze. Coetze will shield SA rugby from exposing the quality level of SA rugby. A loss will be charged on Coetze (quota policy)
SA rugby can go on.

Putting a white coach in charge would cancel the coach used as a fuse strategy. SA will have to win, with no coach pretext in case of loss.

By the way - is Coetzee staying or not.   SARU denies the above newspaper report and said they will make an announcement next week.
I think there are competing interest - The Minister on one side and the potential investors on the other side.   The investors wants change to ensure they are not throwing good money after bad.

The investors wants change to ensure they are not throwing good money after bad.

Good money? The rand has been from the start a resource backed currency. Resources are declining in SA hence a loss in value in the rand.

Investors, if they are looking for not losing money, will look elsewhere than SA rugby and try to invest in NH club rugby.

SA rugby is a pipeline to funnel wealth outside SA. The one thing that SA rugby could provide investors: a way to launder money. That is all.

Oh dear....'a highly prized source' ......tells SA Rugby Mag Coetzee is going to be kept till June. Then SARU says a statement will be made in a few days. So what is your point Urinal? That sources are sometimes wrong, that SARU essentially made a 'we don't comment on rumours' response. That Coetzee is gone....what huh?
