Elswhere you made a comment that the goalkicking option in the event of Lambie being brought in during the recent test leaves a scary situation - because Lambie is not really an accurate goal kicker.   I seriously think you are completely wrong in this case.   During the Heineken Cup tournament this year Ulster did particularly well and this was largely linked to the extremely accurate goal kicking of Pienaar - who was a candidate for player of the year based on his major point scoring ability at kicking at goal.

The fact that Steyn is more accurate at kicking at goal  and the need to keep him on the field of play  and he cannot be replaced - is a myth.   If he fails like he did in the test series and in the test on Saturday - he should be replaced as we have another remarkably accurate goal kicker in the team in any event.

Mike if the immediate future was all that mattered I would replace Hougaard with Pienaar. Hougaard however may yet make an great scrummie.

However, I am not convinced lambie would be better than Steyn. As Mallet said even a player like Carter would have flopped if playing for the Boks.  There are deeper issues at play here than only player selection

mallets verbal diarea and rant and raves is well learned by his sky news team cohorts. he learned from the best there in pommie land. so i wont take to much in by what the hasbeen mallet has to say

the real question is does lambie offer somthing different yes but can meyer create a playing enviroment that lambie and co can excel in. a short answer to that with the current forward so called obsessed approach i doubt it.

the players dont buy into the current game plan and to be fair who can blame them. carter would have not been the player he is now due to the current playing style that i cant argue but that is not the players fault more a coaching and player development issue. meyer and no cups coetzee are the root of the cancer that is the problem for SA rugby to move from the "old" pre ELV era of rugby tot he modern up tempo high ball possesion attacking rugby that the whole world is playing apart from us and the english.

the playing pattern is flawed and the relevant coaching style and training that goes with that is the root of the problem. the playing pattern will dictate the player selection and the players are getting caught out by it. if this mentality is not change we will see this type of results on a weekly basis

You got it completely wrong - Moart said we could not replace a failing Morne in the Saturday test with Lambue because of Steyn's goalkicking ability - and that in such a case we would lose the services of a creditable kicker at goal.

On the issue of playing strategy I agree whole-heartedly with carpetmucnher.   I gained the imporession that we urgently need a change in playing patterns and that as a first move - we should get a proper backline coach.

when i heard meyers first comments about the backline players and his warped view on the role of a fetcher i thought by myself like we are going back to the dark ages with rudolf destroyli and harry viljoen.

since then i have no loveloss for meyer. i was the biggest vocal support for his appointment but since then i was just dissapointed by blantant infieror tactics and poor skills development. he has not coached under the new ELV's and to be fair one can see it in the results. it was a clash of eras on saterday. the old vs the new.
