Great hit by Coetzee, he should never have been relegated to the Bok bench. The way Meyer operates, dont be surprised to see Coetzee drop out the equation in total at the expense of old man Schalk

I am a great Coetxee fan and I believe he will remain a Springbok for years to come.

I am against anybody being selected on reputation = performance should be the key.   If Burger performs best I would have no problem with him being in the team.   However, the performance norm should apply to everyone and not only a few players.

It is because players were selected on reputatuion and then under-perform in test matches that we did not produce enough winning rugby.   Meyer now has a further six months to identify form players and get them into the squad - so lets see what happens.

The Springboks only came right this year, after Louw replaced Coetzee who was nothing more than a tackler all season. He did that well, but it's not enough. One of Meyer's gutsy and good calls.

Would that be one of his calls that led to the 57%, not to mention the original call of playing Coetzee out of poistion at 6. You really know your stuff Moffie, as insightful as ever.

Come now - it was not only the Coetzee change that made a difference to performances of the Springboks.  It was changes made in other critical positions - like Morne Steyn and Hougaard that played a bigger roll in the turnaround that followed the initial Super 15 disasters.   The better performances in later tests was nearly nullified by stupid selections like Van der Linde and De Jongh.

What better performances are you talking about - scraping home against a depleted Irish side, nobodies Scotland and England. Our performance on the EOYT was shocking

I agree with you in this case.   The real shocker was the Scotland game.  We barely and with luck managed to  beat the Scots - but the very next week Tonga beat Scotland easily.   So our performance against the Scots were worse than the one of Tonga.   Rubbish was the best way to describe the terribly poor game of the Springboks.

We were on the defensive against Ireland virtually the whole second half of the game against the Irish and Coetzee came in and made some massive tackles - helping to salvage that game we could easily have lost.   Both these games can be described as really ridiculously poor if the ratings are borne in mind.

Coetzee should never have been dropped and nor should he ever have played out of position at 6. The kid has a massive workrate, great defender and good with ball in hand
