So, the Leicester City owner, Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was aboard the helicopter that crashed last night in a car park outside Leicester's stadium. It was customary for Vichai to exit the stadium via helicopter after every home game. It's unclear who, if anyone, was with him, pilot aside, or if anyone in the vicinity was injured. Terrible tragedy, my thoughts and prayers with all loved ones connected with those concerned.

Tragic event making the news here in the US....despite what the stats say these copters are dicey. One summer I made many helicopter trips in Greece....over the Pindus and other Greek mountain ranges. The pilot was an ex Greek aerobatics pilot and the co pilot was the owner's brother who was learning to fly. Scary, hot, bouncy, loud.......who needs helicopters except air/sea rescue.

This should go in the football section, and those interested can comment in it.
If Vichai deserves our condolences, there are many other people in the world that can also have RIP tributes. Unfortunate for Vichai, but their are lots of other people that are equally deserving of RIP condolances

Burt Reynolds died on September 6 at a hospital in Jupiter, Florida, with his family by his side.

The Oscar-nominated actor, who starred in Boogie Nights and Deliverance, passed away at the age of 82 after going into cardiac arrest, Us Weekly confirmed.

Fans had been concerned about his health in recent years, ever since he was seen on multiple occasions not looking his usual self.

The charismatic star appeared in a number of famous films, including The Longest Yard and Smokey and the Bandit.

The post-Clevermike made was in reference to disputes on the "rugby" board, and was a better attempt than a superficial RIP to a famous person. The permanent Liar Mike threads seem childish, school kid stuff.
Not sure what Humanism ideology has to do with this.

Hi Ruckers

The responses to this post is quite dispicable.

We are neither robots nor heartlessm moronic creatures. We are fellow beings.

The general concensus is to keep posts under their relevant headlines, but for heavens sakes, when someone puts up a post of this nature, we should really allow our humane side to take over from our ridiculous robotic and simple minded senses.

May Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and whoever else was on board that craft's souls rest in peace.

To be honest I have never heard of Vichai, before I read this post. So I genuinely did not feel any remorse when I first read this post. It just seemed like a random post.
We have kids starving to death on a daily basis, it is part of life.
Sure if a poster from RuckerForum died, or it was someone we all knew then yes it would be a much bigger deal to us all. Would Hollywood or the international jet-setters give the time of day to us, or to kids starving?
Perhaps we should have a section for RIP for famous people.  Otherwise, where do we draw the line- do we have a RIP post each day for someone famous? Do we celebrate every historical day around the world?

Now that I am reading a bit more about the story- I can understand and identify with it a bit more. However, when I first read this post it was just a random RIP of someone that is rich and famous that I have never heard of. I personally feel more concern about children starving to death than billionaires.

Actually I agree with Sharkbok, why is the death of Leicester FC owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha more noteworthy than the deaths of Stephen Hawking, Charles Azvanour, Winnie Mandela, Barbara Bush, Margot Kidder, Tom Wolfe, Philip Roth, Pik Botha, Aretha Franklin, John McCain, Neil Simon, Alan Ball, Kofi Annan, Montserrat Caballe, John van Reenen and Burt Reynolds who all died in the past few months?
Why are we mourning the death of a Thai billionnaire on the rugby site when we haven't bothered mentioning the deaths of great Springboks like Theuns Briers and Lood Muller?
No disrespect to Vichai but why is this oke getting such special treatment on here?
Sharkbok getting rapped over the knuckles for questioning a random obituary to one of literally millions of deaths in the last few months but no comment on Moffie posting a sequel to his disgusting "LiarMike" thread?
Perspective please!

It's quite simple Startung.....hundreds of millions die every year, nobody is advocating every death is recognized on this Board. But when some member is moved sufficiently by the circumstances of a particular death to make note of it here, decency dictates that the sentiment and the event are treated with respect. Nothing more.

Another take on this, is why was he allowed to fly a personal helicopter in an area with so many people. Airports are designed for this type of stuff, but football stadiums are not.
The VIP Box area would probably have its own car parking area- so he would not necessarily get stuck in traffic.
Seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth to the local fans, a billionaire buying a foreign football club and then flying over the fans to skip the traffic.

So here's Urinal's response to the RIP John McCain thread....3rd post in the thread. Look for all the decent sentiments about McCain. .... Koos Kombuis Squad member 409 posts Aug 26, 2018, 11:24 "He might be doing some good things for America but the man himself is a sack of shit" You need to look a bit deeper than the fake news that the Trumpanzees love to spout regarding the US economy. Bozo's trade wars have been good for manufacturing and the GDP in the short term but it's not sustainable. Bozo doesn't give a rats ass about the economy in the longer term as long as he looks good in the short term. The upswing in the US economy actually started during Obama's presidency but it's no surprise to see Bozo trying to take all the credit. For example unemployment numbers dropped for 7 consecutive years during Obama's presidency and now that the trend has continued for a single year of Bozo's term, he and the Trumpanzees are trying to pretend it's all due to him. Bozo's tax cuts are great if you're a wealthy American but if you're poor (or a soybean farmer) then the future looks bleaker than ever. The US deficit is now over $1 trillion but again, Bozo doesn't give a damn about that, that's something for the next guy to fix. I suspect history will show Bozo to be the biggest economic disaster since the Great Depression. It's not just that he doesn't have a clue about economics, he isn't learning anything because he thinks he's a genius. ....... Didn't see anything about McCain just a bunch of gratuitous attacks on Trump? Yep, that's what I saw....just another opportunity to attack Trump. There my friends you have the face of hypocrisy. John McCain made his death a political act......it was his choice. He excluded the President from a national event. Those who dislike Trump loved it....the rest of the country had the right to criticize it and the motives that lie behind it

I think people need to define the difference between genuine sadness, something I am sure all of us have experienced at losing a loved one or even a beloved pet, and the inferred feeling of loss of someone famous or well known or important. I can genuinely sympathise with Vichai's family and friends, because I know the pain of personal loss, and my condolences go out to them, but to say I feel any sadness would be a lie.
I think that is the difference between the posters on this thread. They are blurring the lines between showing respect to a stranger that has passed on, and the genuine sadness of the loss of a loved one. That's all it is.
Another quick point, if someone was a bad person in life, their death does not exonerate them. My opinion of a person does not change on their passing. If they were good, in my eyes they remain good. If they were bad, they remain bad.

bluebok, for "famous or well known", see the list of people I provided further up the board who all passed away recently and who are all a lot more famous and well known than this Thai billionnaire. I would bet dollars to donuts that none of these hand-wringing hypocrites had ever heard of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha before this helicopter incident.
Sharkbok and ou Maaik are getting called out on this thread for "dispicable" (sic) behaviour but they haven't bad-mouthed anyone. All they've done is question why this thread wasn't started in the football section where it belongs. But go take a look at some of the disgusting comments on the RIP John McCain thread and see if the Admins had anything to say about comments like "good riddance to very bad rubbish", "globalist pig", "Why are these libies so emotionally attached to the worst people? John McCain? Seriously?", "moron" or "A creature of the media, the real man was something considerably less.".
No, not a peep. Those disgusting comments are okay but asking this non-rugby thread to be posted elsewhere is "dispicable" (sic)?

Hi Rooinek

We understand your point of view and your thoughts are well taken.

To be perfectly honest, that post was missed. We tend to ignore the massacre that goes on under Beeno's Trumpet, as thats exactly what it is... a place for users to blow off their steam in a seperate, less moderated section, in attempt to keep the other sections clean.

We certainly do not condone posts like that, but we try not to police the forum as other moderators do.

We still feel that our post above is in line with our thoughts.

The general rule of thumb is to keep posts under their relevant sections, but we are not robots and if a poster decides to inform users of something of that nature (death, illness, injury, birth etc...) of a person that is in the sporting fraternity, we don't think that it needs to be moderated, unless it becomes inflamatory or derogatory.

This thread is neither of the above.

Have a great day further.

Yours in rugga

Ed

Fair comment Admin. It is the relative freedom with which we can comment here that makes this forum what it is. There is nothing worse than being over-moderated. Logical explanation above. Thanks for the background effort .

Urinal you are a small man with a small point....but what else is new. I totally buy into Bloo's logic...as humans we can't feel genuine sadness for every case. But we can feel for strangers. Last Christmas a dying young boy was on TV talking to Santa.....he finally said: 'please help me Santa'. The human trust in that statement was profoundly sad, moved me to tears. Contrast what happened on this thread. None of us were probably affected emotionally by Vichai's death....but the circumstances were striking, and underlined the futility of much of our human experience. Auggie decided it was noteworthy enough to bend a few rules.....big deal. This Board has been the best of all Boards over the last 18 years precisely because it isn't policed in a petty way....well done Ed. Now on the McCain thread.....that thread from the off was about the politics of Trump and McCain. McCain's whole funeral was about the same thing. We are smart enough not to be confused by the supposed context. This is another part of Bloo's post I agree with.....a person's death doesn't change who they were in life. And McCain's death never changed his spiteful nature, as he proved by making his funeral an anti Trump event, rather than a time for his family. As civilized people we should try not to speak ill of the dead, unless they continue their vendettas from beyond the grave....as McCain did. Nor should we be confused when a poster doesn't say one word about the dead person, but uses the death to attack somebody they don't like. Everything that follows is shaped by that subject matter abuse. .

I'm not even going to bother reading through all of the above. I should have known better than to post anything at all. We can have a two and a half year old  thread about Moto GP, no problem. A thread about a fight over a ten year old chess game. A thread about mental health and numerous side swipes with no rugby content. No problem. Had anyone but I posted this, it would have been received differently. Mike always has to be contrary, and set the tone, yet he is quick to sit on his high horse and promote himself. Given the nature of the content, I assumed it would bring out a better, more humane side to the forum, especially considering the fighting that has been happening the past few weeks - one such spat driving a member away. The hypocrisy is unbelievable. At least it should be. Another thread down the drain.

For me, it's fun to read some of the random stuff you guys post since it's a small community and every one is a bit closer than what one finds on other forums.

Whatever it's about. I'm cool with it.

Admin have the perfect approach in terms of both the size and type of community that exists here.

If it were up to me, I'd ask for you lot to post some more random stories, thoughts, questions and ideas here.

Everyone posts stuff that isn't necessarily rugby related, so calling others out is, for the most part, a splinter log situation.
