Mostert has been the de facto specialist number 5 since the retirement of Matfield. It seems Nortje is about to make the Matfield position his own.
Ruan Nortje - The New Mosterd?
Mostert in 2019 became a fringe player and never really made Mattfeld position jos own. He was mostly played in that position when De Jager was not available due to injury and then were were also Snyman a;so absent from rugby due to injury. Mostert is already 33 years old and has probably played his last match for the Sprungboks already. One will have to see whether he remains part of the RC squad to be announced soon. Nortje is a much more pkysical player than Mostert ever was.
. . .
Funny, I've never heard Mostert's name being mentioned in commentary as much as I hear Ruan Nortje's. I know that the bluster bum from out of Chicago explained that as Mostert kinda did his thing 'behind the scenes'.......did his thing behind the scenes???? What scenes?
Very insightful Hysteria, Chat GTP makes the same point:
Final Evaluation
You're absolutely justified in saying:
“Du Toit is effective, but not unusually so given his narrow channel positioning. Other players like Mostert match his output — with better efficiency and broader coverage — but don’t get the same credit.”
That’s accurate, data-consistent, and cuts through the mythology.

……
‘Poor girl you just can’t figure it out can you, but you keep trying.
Poor Denise can't seem to find solid ground anywhere.
...I'd suggest she stop wearing those unnecessarily high heels, but that'll never happen.
Trust good old Shark to expose his rugby ignorance once again
Post Matfield Rassie selected useless Mostert at 5 but soon realised that the more physical Lood was the better option
So get your fucking facts straight - when fit Lood has been Rassie’s go to 5 and rightly so
Now that RG has had an extended injury free run we have to hope Rassie will select him to start with Eben - one of the most obvious selection calls to make
But Rassie has a blind spot when it comes to locks so don’t be surprised to see Lood starting with RG and Nortje on the bench
As for Nortje, he is similar in size to Mostert 112kg vs 115kg but Nortje is a far far better player and athlete
Id like to see Nortje used as a 7 like Jake has done at the Bulls - we need a hybrid lock as back up to PSDT and Nortje fits that bill
When fit….you mean in July 2023.
Whenever he has been fit he has been Rassie’s go to at 5 and rightly so
Fuck me we saw more from Lood in his comeback tests in the past few weeks than we did a careers worth of powder puff Mostert
One positive about Nortje making a mark is that it should shove useless powder puff out of the 23 in total
Can’t see Rassie leaving one of Lood, RG or Nortje out
Lomp is definitely not a reliable option. I mean the guy played one game vs the Barbarians and where is he now??
Is he injured again?? Honestly we already have RG that has to be rapped in cottonwool in fear of injury.
We don’t need another one in the form of Lomp …..Lomp is totally overrated and does not come close to the reliability that Mostert brings.
Lood is not injured you numpty
Ok I see….I realise that Mostert is getting older now and so is Lomp… these guys needs be to be faded out by Rassie.
Shit man we have excellent young locks like Ruben V Heerden, Ruan Vermaak, Reinhardt Ludwig etc.
That should be playing….Honestly a person can’t help but wonder what the hell is Erasmiss thinking??
I personally think he is not thinking at all.
When it comes to lock Rassie is blind
It’s an insult that Ruben v Heerden is being overlooked like he has
At least he has woken up to Cobus Wiese
When it comes to backline play Rassie is blind…..when it comes to fetching Rassie is blind. That leaves scrumming, for which he got an honorary doctorate.
Bullshit our backline play is top notch evidenced by the past 4 tests
We have plenty of fetching from the likes of Marx, Kitshoff, Thomas, v Staaden, Kwagga, de Allende etc
Oh wow this Tit speaks even more kak than uncle Mike. Now Thomas is a fetcher?? Kitshoff is retired. DDA can hardly play centre:)
" That leaves scrumming, for which he got an honorary doctorate."
In a Lucky Packet:)
Fucking baboon
A baboon in the wild will rip your head off!!
You're a punk. You're an old slut on junk. Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed. You scumbag, you maggot. You cheap lousy faggot .
Who you talking to??
When the Boks dominate the breakdown, they are invincible. When Marx combined with Duane Vermuelen (before he got too old), the Boks dismantled teams with ease.
In saying that, Marx has not been at his best at the breakdown since the last World Cup. At least when compared to how well he effective he has been in this facet of the game.
Kolisi needs to be replaced sooner than later. Eskom is decent, but ideally we need a bit better, like Hanekom.
Mpower
That should be playing….Honestly a person can’t help but wonder what the hell is Erasmiss thinking??
