SA 7 shows no hope in victory

Lately, on this board, an open letter to the minister of sports was brought to attention.
The letter stated that patriotic honour etc was thwarted in SA 15 because the selection was not made of the best of the best.

During the first day in the tournament, games were scrutinized with idea in mind.
Excellent men enjoy cherry picking so they might argue that SA 7 is actually not made of the best of the best. Regardless, though, SA 7 is composed with players that are more than good enough as they are a world class team.

It follows that SA 7 smust exhibit that patriotic honour, feeling etc that the open letter called for.

Nothing of the sort and the team finally came in big contrast with Fiji.
Fiji players look like a band of brothers, they may have disagreements, ultimately, you feel they enjoy themselves when playing together, that they are happy as a team. A team speaking their ancestor's language, proud of representating their own country.

On the SA side, nothing of the sort. Of course, there is no demand for players to get along off the pitch, but they could show mutual appreciation when they play together.

The traditional huddle before each game was deeply revealing. Fiji's are emotional ones, players communed with each other, spiriting themselves up, pledging to each other to give their best.

On the other hand, SA huddles look like scripted: black players on one side, white players on the other side, half of the team unable to speak one of the most spoken languages of their own country. Even the "we believe" shout looks artificial, and coming from a directive, not from the heart and soul.

SA 7 team regularly choke. One possible explanation is that they lack that bind between players that could get them to play for something more than working a job. Other teams thave that tie that give them strength.

Obviously, no reason to stop SA 7 since they are potentially able to win. It must not lead to ignore that even in winning ways, SA teams do not display something like patriotic honour.
