Since Awards for top performances in rugby are being dished out right. left and centre - the ClevermIke Institute for Profound Rugby Knowledge has decided to make its own awards dealing with various awards:-

UNDER 20

Griesel - for his disgusting perfomance in the Game against the Irish

Bubbling Under -  Tony Jantjies - same game.

BACKLINE

De Jongh - for vanishing from site in the Twickenham Test - when he was nowhere to be seen for 75% of the game, as well as poor performances in all but one Super 15 game.

Bubbling Under - Earl Jantjies in the Soweto Test  where his teammates ignored his presence on the field by not passing balls to him virtually throuout the second half of the test - couped to his atrocious play before he got tackled by Aplon in the CC game, and letting a high kicked ball bounce two meters in front of him while watching the on-coming Stormers players in Super 15 game, as well as general  poor defence in the channel.

FORWARDS

Greying - for a disgusting idiotic performance in the Dunedin Test .as well as giving away the second highest number of penalties in Super 15.

Bubbling Under - Werner Kruger for giving away most penalties in Super 16 and disgustingly poor scrummaging on test level.   Flip van der Merwe - for his distinguished record in collecting yellow cards and giving away like a fairy godfather penalties to the oppoisrion.

KICKING

Goalkicking

Morne Steyn - - for his heroic efforts to miss goalkicking in the Dunedin test, coupled to similar efforts in other tests where he was successful in 50% record in missing kicks at goal.

Worst Defensive Kick

Francois Steyn - for kicking a kick  rolling along the ground placing his whole team off-side in a test against the POMS.

Bubbling Under - Taute for not kicking the ball out that led to the Whitelock try in the Soweto test. Morne Steyn - For kicking balls away aimleely - especially in the Dunedin test where commentators call two kicks idotic, coupled to often kicking away of balls, where it should have been passed to other backline players.

DEFENCE

Taute - for atrocious defence in the Soweto test

Bubbling Under - Hougaard for  missing  the tackle on Beale in the Pretoria test and a disgusting defensive display in the Soweto test.

WORST PLAYER OF THE YEAR

There was a determined battle by players to get the distiguished Award for Worst Player of 2012.   The candidates included the following:-

De Jongh, Taute, Earl Jantjies, Morne Steyn, Greyling, Werner Kruger and Flip van der Meerwe.

The battle was intense  - but in the end the following was selected:-

Backline -  Morne Steyn

Forwards - Dean Greyling

Bibbling Under - All the other contenders mentioned above.

WORST COACH OF THE YEAR

Meyer - for making serious selection errors throughout the year and for implementing a non-workable game plan.   The redeeming factor is that he himself admitted that he selected players he was familiar with and also stated that he realized he made selection errors - signs that there may be improvement in future.

Bubbling under - Coetzee of the Sormers and WP for an atrocious game plan in Super 15 leading to the gewest tries scored by the Stormers in that competition and concentrating the Stormers backline on defnce only.

well I just wonder h owEngland didnt score more tries given De Jongh's vanishing for 75% of the game.

Morne Steyn wa sokay but very unfortunately his kicking went awol and we lost the championship as a consequence. Now if he had kicked to normal standards and we had won the Championship what would mike and snapster be saying now. Excellent start by meyer and he is probably SA coach of the year. The Year End tour was outstanding. Consider all the missing players. What an effort! This was underlined by the Poms thrashing the abs and us beating the Poms.

Far to much is made of Taute misisng a solitary kick and we know his defence is good. If it wasnt I would not want him at fullback - ditto the kicking!!!! A new backline takes time to settledown defensively and no one player was at fault.

Poor Greyling will never live this one down. Pity really as he was so keyed up after sitting on the bench he had a brain implosion. But he is a decent enough player.

Coetzee is the worst coach? Well how good he is  difficult to tell as he flopped with the Boks and he might be a figurehead at WP. But WP did top the Super 15 log and win the Currie Cup with a depleted side so somebody is doing something right and it may even include Coetzee.

Hougaard's defence is fine. I saw highlights of the tests against England here in SA and he had one try saving tackle. One really hopes this guy gets going in 2013.

tautes defence in sowetto was pretty poor, but what about habanas defence??? i remember him rushing carter who spun out of his tackle to draw and pass to gear who then ran inside to pass  to aaron smith who scored an esasy try under the posts.

if habana had held his line, then the numbers were all there to shut down that attack, but redunadnt now as Boks were collectively horrible.

greyling was poor in the ABs game, but wasnt that his only test match for 2012??? IMO someone who has played more games yet been average in those performances should get the nod ahead of gryling and his one hit wonder test.

worst Bok forward - beast/j du plesiss
worst Bok back - morne steyn
worst coach - h meyer
worst Bok performance - Boks vs pumas mendoza test
worst SA team performance - stormers, stormers vs sharks semifinal.

Jannie Dup made a number of commentators World side for 2012. saSue you should really try watching the games as it might help.  Maybe not!!

In terms of its effect yes Morne as had he been kicking normally we would have won the Championship. Otherwise he wasnt too bad.

Meyer had a solid start in very trying circumstances. Great pity Morne went awol with his goal kicking as it would have been great to win the Rugby championship with such a depleted squad in his first year as coach. If context were taken into account he would be SA coach of the year of course. Please note we beat England 3 times and drew once. Abs record played1 and lost it badly. Bwahahahahahahahahaha

Unfortunately the Stormers were down to the bare bones in lose forwards plus other injuries by the time they played the sharks. However much to the angst of the kiwis the Mighty Stormer topped the log. A depleted WP then went on to beat a virtually full strength Sharks side in the Currie Cup final!!

saSue just cant get over it that the Stormers won all their matches bar one against nz opponents and we all know why they lost against the crusties - I am not even referring to the injuries to the two front line locks etc!!!

No ou saSue is such a half wit he cannot take a rational holistic approach to matters.

Saffex

I take it that you agree with my assessments - bar for Taute.   He was about last on the bubling under list and I am sure he will not make he lis next year when he will be playing at full back.

There is one big difffereence between your assessment of players and mine.   You have certain favourites that can do no wrong - if they do you refuse to recognize their mistakes or try and sweep it under the carpet.   I look at games objectively and identify who did well and who made serious mistakes.

I put only the most serious flaws in the memroy bank for postings like this one.  Any objective assessor will tell you that Tautee's attacking performances were average - nothing special at all.   This is confirmed by his stats.   Other than the Soweto test his defence was also average.   However, he was poor in the Soweto test and every objective assessor will tell you that.

On the whole - bar the Soweto test Taute could on Super 15 level be regarded a a 5.5 out of 10 player - not really top notch - like he was at full back for the Lions in 2011.   I believe he has it in him to be a star future full back for the Springboks.   I do not see a future for him at center - where he will remain as an average player - with no special abilitites to perform on a higher level.   The Lions made a huge mistake by moving himm to center and I do believe the Stormers will not continue with that experiment.

The number of failed experiments moving people out of their best positions where they are real stars - on the mitaken belief that they would fit in and prerform on the same level - into other positions where they perform less  well, is growing and should be discouraged.  Please no further Pietersen (from wing), Lambie (from flyhalf)  and Taute (from full back) experimental moves.   Let them play in their preferred positions - where they performed better in the past and see how they shape up as future Springbok candidates.

You can try and soft soap it - but the issues raised by me is really pertinent and did happen - you cannot deny facts or ignore them like Saffex.

I never said Coetzee womn the award of Worse Coach - Meyer won it by a hosrt head - the main problems being player selection and game plan implementation.   You will not agree - but even Meyer realized that his selections were atrocious - so I am not off line in this regard/.

De Jongh - check how mnny times De Jongh received in the Soweto Twickenham test and how many tackles he put in.   Watch the game again and you would notice that he was constantly out of position and on the other side of mauls and where there was less than a 10% chance of the ball going.   That one lacks one essential - namely ball sense.-

Worst Selector of the year- Hieneken Meyer (Select a Bull when ever possibale, even if they are not of superxv standard). The Mendoza test was the most unbalanced backrow seen for the boks in many a year. It looked as if the boks had been teleported back to the Roedolf Straueli era.

-

Worst Backline attack coach- The Springbok backline coach vs Robbie Fleck of the Stormers.

-

Worst Backline player- Morne Steyn. (especially The 3rd England test in SA, Mendoza, Dunedin- totally clueless). Even the New Zealand commentators were getting irratated with his aimless kicking away of possesion that they seemed to start supporting the boks out of sympathy.

-

Worst Forward-  Dean Greyling, followed closely by Werner Kruger. Most of the bulls that played this year were very poor. Donkey Potgieter also looked way out of his depth and their was a noticable improvement in the backrow following his departure.

-

Most tactically niave- Tautes clearance kick on his 10 metre line that did not make touch.

His whole team were out of position and that kick had to go out, forget about trying to get an extra 10 metres distance. That gifted the All Blacks a try and also made an injured Goosen have to tackle a lock forward running at full speed on the try line.

Has anybody in New Zealand ever wrote a criitical assessment of issues like my post above is concerned?  I doubt it very much.   Critical anaylisis is the first step leading to improvement and the absence thereof is really a serious flaw with nasty subsequent consequences.

Mike as I said you speak a crock of shit.

Here are the facts about Taute, try read and learn, failing which I suggest you chuck it in on rugby analysis for you are already far off the radar.

Taute in the S15 was by some distance the best SA outside centre - FACT. He gained more metres, beat more defenders and made more breaks than any other SA 13. What makes these stats that more remarkable is the fact that he was playing for the poor Lions. So dont give me this fucking bullshit that he scores 5.5 out of 10 - are you stupid?

As for his tests, against Oz he had a great test and by far the best display by a SA test 13 for the year. He had a bad day against NZ as did most of his team mates that day. Against Ireland, Meyer said it was Taute's best test to date - I disagree, he was better against Oz, but what it tells us is that he was not average.

Your rugby ignorance is starting to bore me, especially your take on centres

I wamt to ask you to help out - please.   Where can I get the Super 15 stats on Jaco Taute - whilst playing at center?   I tried Planrt Rugby and ESPN Scrum- but could only find stats on test rugby.

If stats provre me wrong in my aaessment of Taute at center in 2012 in Super 15 I will obviously change my assessment on his performances.    I must immediately add that I was much more impressed with Jordaan's performances playing ar 13 in Super 15 than I was by Taute.   Stats can prove me wrong though and I would like to see whether that is the case/.

Please jelp out and point the wy out to me.

Mike two things. Firstly stats can, as you know be very misleading. Secondly why bother as the fact is Taute looks set for 15 which he prefers from what one can glean.

What ou snapster has not cottoned onto is that Lambie will be playing flyhalf for the Sharks. Meyer is therefore unlikely to play him at 15 for the boks.  Goosen is still ver yyoung for test rugby and I think Lambie will play more at flyhalf for the Boks than Goosen in 2013 as the canny Meyer gives Goosen time to grow up etc.

So snapster try and apply that lonely braincell and tell me who of Taute and Kirchner would you prefer at 15 fo rthe Boks.

Oh when will the penny drop for ou snapster. Surely this is not that diffuclut an issue to understand!

snapster is so simplistic. Goosen is our flyhalf and Lambie is therefore our 15. Hahhahahahahahahaha thankfully Meyer has more rugby nous than ou snapaster.

How many games did Taute play at center for the Lions? I was under the impression he was covering inuries and only played a couple of games for them at center. His preferred position was fullback but their was more cover at fullback than center.

Taute played 8 games for the Lions before injury ruled him out for the rest of the competition.   In total he played the following games for the Lions in the period 2010-2012: -

Full back  -   2010-11   -   22 games

Center      -   2012|       -     8 games

He was injured on the 8th game,

He was a top full back - he was nominated for the Player of the Year Awaed in 2011 -  and an average center - despie what Saffex stated.

Since he is going to play at full back in future - I think the cneter experiment  will be discontinued,.   Am looking forward keenly to his futurre performances as a full back .

I think he started 2012 playing fullback, and only later moved to center. I think he played like 3 games at center before getting injured as well

You re in fact correct.   I checked all the teams from the various matches and found that Taute in 2012 played 8 matches for the Lions before he was injured.   Of those 8 matches he played 5 at full back and 3 at center.   He was only moved to center as a result of injuries to the Lions Centers.

I find it amazing that Saffex can say he was the best SA  no 13 in Super 15 in 2012 - since he played in that position only 3 times.

What is even more alarming is that since 2009 Taute out of a total of 64 matches  in fact played only 8 Matches at center  - 3 for the Lions on Super 15 level, 2 for the LIons on CC level  and 3 for the Springboks.   That in fact weakens the argument that he should be played at center and I believe that his own wish is to play at full back - where over a period of time he ws a much better performer than he was at center.

I can remember seeing games where Taute played at full back and I was tremendously impressed by him in that position.
