Tomorrow we'll know whether Sacha will be starting in England. I've heard a couple of school's thought, and there is only one that I'm onboard with.
The first being that Rassie needs to hold Sacha back a little since this past weekend risks going to his head. That ego is a dangerous thing and that the team always comes first. So, bench him, or exclude him completely and keep his feet on the ground. Most of the arguments against him starting in this second game against the Argies centres around that idea.
The other and weirdly less popular school of thought is that Smith hit two double hundreds on his first tour of England, and he was 21 at the time. They didn't drop him after his first double ton. He had the ability and what was going on his head was his problem, so there was no need to pre-punish him for crimes he hadn't yet committed. So why do that to Sacha?
He got a chance against the Abs and looked like he was starting to break them down when he took the head knock. Against Argentina he stayed on the field and took total control of the game. The guy is on fire, and not allowing him to start against Argentina in England would be criminal. To me, its crazy that a coach could take a chance like that away from a kid when he has done nothing but earn that chance. Imagine how badly he wants to start in that game???
Pollard has had his big starts, so has Manie. It really is Sacha's turn to show us what he's got because, as weird as it sounds, the team does occasionally need to step aside and allow the chance for greatness to take over. Any team that has ever had a truly great player has always had to do that because the net benefit dictates such.
If he does start, and has a game even 60% as good as what he has this past weekend, that will do a lot for him...and a hell of the lot for the Bok rep as an attacking force.
Basically screw the depth/rotation thing for a bit, I say let the kid have a good old run for the rest of the year. Especially because there is a decent chance that you'll want him starting against France and/or Ireland since he's looking like the guy most likely to win you those games.
