i watched the Ulster/ Cheetahs match yesterday. The commentator mentioned that Marcel had played 5 games in two years for Ulster. Marcel had his left leg heavily bandaged and showed absolutely nothing to suggest he was a Bok contender. He showed about zero and then was subbed.
No one can on this form safely disregard Marcel and wait to see if he can still play rugby. Very disappointing after the big build up by Saffex!!!
I didn't see that game, but I did see him play the Kings. He did play well.
I think that the first game after a long injury lay-off results in an amazing performance and the second game is often a let-down. A typical example was Etzebeth in the first English test in June - a week later he was much less noticeable in the second test.
I think the same thing happened to Coetzee - he was dominating the game in the first match and was struggling in the second match,
I would much rather see how the rest of his performances develops throughout the season before taking a final stand on Coetzee.

Yes Snapster i did miss that match so all i can report on is his awful display against the Cheetahs. Well lets see how he goes.
Coetzee is out injured again...
I've never been a fan of Coetzee, in fact, I was one of the very few in 2012 who called out some of his weaknesses. Very well received I might add.
He was good against the Kings, a side that had a pretty strong counter ruck. Not a weak side by any stretch of the imagination. As a pilfer? On the basis of that game, he did look more effective. However, he was shadowing fellow defenders looking for opportunities. In test rugby, we'd need him to make those tackles. At least assist. He didn't look particularly strong carrying the ball up. I recall Meyer claimed the reason why he selected Coetzee over Brussow was due to ball carrying. I disagreed with it then, and I disagree with it now. Coetzee would be a useful squad player. That's if he can stay healthy, which is obviously not the case. Ulster certainly didn't get their money s worth.
Louw started quite well against Los Pumas. The second test was more subdued. Against Australia and New Zealand he looked off the pace. Perhaps the intensity of the All Black test is more understandable. That said there were big errors. I don't know if he is still a viable option, but I'd still go Louw before a healthy Coetzee. We don't have many options.

Coetzee is out injured again.
He never recovered from Dean Mumms colossal hand off.
Jokes aside, He has had a torrid time with injuries.
Hands down the greatest hand-off in history. When he's retired NSW should erect a statue of said hand in his honour. Now let us bow, before it gets us too!
Coetzee when fully fit was a hugely better loosie than low and Alberts combined.
On the Ulster website the injury to Coetzee was not the same as the case was in the past when he had a number of horror knee injuries, He had a shoulder injury and there is no indication of how serious the injury was - all that was said was he and some other players will not be available for the next game against Munster.
Lets hope for the sake of the player not a serious injury and he will soon be back.
