A fully fit Coetzee isn't worthy of carrying Alberts (in his prime) bootbag.

Beeno

I do not know what happened here - hope it is not a virus that got in on my side  - will watch out for a repeat.

As to the funny side - just add to Xavi one thing - did Alberts know the meaning of the terms "breakdown ball protection and recovery" and "possession turnovers".  If he did there was no evidence on the field of play.

Alberts was slow and useless in defense and his famous ball carries was very rarely on display.   A joke at loosie that one and at best a low work rate player .

Lol Oom Mike,

A break down was what happened behind Alberts when He crashed through 2 or more defenders and left them clutching each other like nestling chicks.

Clever Mike, let the page load before you press enter again! I know you are an eager little chap, but the page can only load so fast. To compound matters, you're using a South African service, which couldn't be slower if you were connected by rope.

Xavi

How often did your dream carries happen?  Alberts main problem was he was clumsy and easily tackled.   he would fall over his own feet with even one defender touching his ankles.   He as relatively easy for players to tackle and his "massive caries"  resulted in a average 2,2 meter territory gain per carry and 1.8 meters in Super rugby.

His defense was poor and some hype had to be created to justify his selection.   A proper loosie would have casued more victories against the AB's.

My abiding memory of Alberts were both in the 2013 Johannesburg test against the AB's.  Alberts -

*     he missed a routine tackle on Read, who passed the ball to Smith who ran over Morne Steyn to score; and

*     later in the game he found Aaron Smith being tackled and fell at his feet - instead of trying to recover the ball - Alberts fell oer his own feet.   If he contested the ball and try to recover the ball the resultant of the Alberts failure Messam  scored his first try.

Not a nice to remember player and one who should never have been in the 2015 WC squad - where he played a total of 12 minutes from the bench in the whole series.  In fact bad news as a loosie.

Your memory is very poor. Nobody ran over Morné for a try. This is why you lose every debate. You stray from the truth. This was in a game where everyone missed far too many tackles, even the All Blacks. Do note that Alberts was subbed at 38 minutes due to injury. He wasn't part of the period where our game completely fell apart.

Morne did miss the tackle on Smith and it was a face-to-face miss.  How else can one describe such a tackle attempt otherwise.   You refuse to even look at the tackle attempt by Morne - who in that test make 7 tackles and missed 4  - the flop against Smith was one of those 4.

The test fell apart due to idiocy by Morne and was already lost by the time Alberts were replaced.   In the first half the ab's scored three converted tries and the rest of the test they scored.   Morne and Albert stuffed up in two of the three tries.   One of Morne's other misses when instead of trying to make a tackle on Barrrett he slapped him on the back wishing him well on his way top score a try.

Lügnerin, you are women wretched liar of note. Morné made all of his head-on tackles, of which there were two or three. The only misses he made were on scramble defence. Sometimes he was the third of forth defender after New Zealand had already made a lot of ground behind the defensive line. He wasn't to blame for a single try. The Barrett try in particular wasn't his fault. An attacker engaged Morné and had Barrett pivot around him into the space created by Jean shooting out of the line. Note that Morné had to mark the fringe as New Zealand had a three man POD right there. As it was, Barrett ran away from Morné into JJ who fluffed his tackle.

Morné was the best defensive Bok back that day. He prevented two tries via scramble defence and covered for the misses by Duane, Habana, Jean, Alberts and a couple of others. To berate Morné for that loss as any kind of reason for why we lost is disgusting. In fact, I can't see how it could be worse.

Yet, there is another lie in your post. Before Alberts left the field, the Boks and All Blacks were level with 2 tries a piece: Habana 17m, 19m; Smith 11m, Messam 25m.

The remainder of then All Black tries were scored by Messam 40m, Barrett 60m, Read 64m.

So your narrative that the game was dead and buried before Alberts left, just to implicate him is another twits to your warped ramblings.

The best defending player does not make 7 tackles and misses 4 -  a missed tackle ratio of 36,36% is definitely not acceptable.  And your wonderful justification of Morne in the Smith and Barrett cases would never wash - it is indeed pipe dream and does not take away reality.

I do not blame only Morne for the tries and said his blame was 50% in the case of the Smith try - 100% in the case of the second Messam try and 30%  in the case of the Barrett try.   Those are very realistic percentages.   In the Barrett try the fault was 30% Morne, 30% de Villiers and 40% Engelbrecht.

Just watched a bit of the game, and this was when Du Preez was already past his best, but wow, his passing was a thing of art. So relaxed and calculated. Compared with the frantic and busy style of Faf. Polar opposites. Not taking anything away from either player, just pointing out the hugely different approaches. On a side note, Du Preez has to be one of the most humble Boks ever! I met him twice, and you could not meet a nicer less pretentious fella.

Faf is a great Bok, but in the mold of Januarie. A tough, undersized pitbull. A real competitor with a capacity to be disruptive. Du Preez was very technically sound in all aspects of scrumhalf play. He was a genius and a general. A calming presence. It' s a shame we saw so little of the Butch-Fourie duo, as that was particularly imposing. Its sad to say, but we don't produce good 9s anymore.

We used to produce so many. South Africa has emphasised running over any other attribute, including strength and passing. New Zealand do select for fitness, but demand excellence for all other skills. For a country that has so often demanded a modern style of play, the fans in particular seem to run entirely contrary to the Kiwi way.

I am not going to argue on the Morne issue - he missed two tackles a decent defender would have made and both ended up in AB tries,  He was by 2013 becoming a poor defender and got worse afterwards    End  of story - no soft-soaping would help.
